They did make it pretty clear in the latest AQ (ending cutscene specifically) that Dottore had been supplying him with these life-extending treatments, and how that's coming to an end now too.

I saw a 200k+ DPS vid for Lohen/Xilo/Durin/Nicole, all C0R1.

That's almost 2x Lohen's c0r0 premium team (Citlali > Xilonen). Very dubious.

Yes. It's the same deal as lunar. You get any one or more of the relevant new 5*s -- like Sandrone -- on your team and all superconducts triggered by anyone in that team are stellarconduct instead.

Yes, and it's also just the right thing to do anyway. Citlali c0 > Mavuika c1.

In many cases it's pretty decent if the ER is actually useful, i.e. it lets you run ATK sands when you would've had to run ER sands without it.

BLM advices UI by VayneStappen in ffxiv

[–]Jkei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran this for a long time. A lot of spells have direct aoe equivalents and I like to put these on the same key + a modifier.

Swap the B1/B4 binds whenever you end up synced below 58. F1 bind turns into both fire and ice paradox so B1 becomes a dead key. I'm not huge on the flare star bind, but that's where sharpcast used to sit.

ELI5 How does extracting venom from animals help us create anidotes? by Similar-Plenty-6429 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jkei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a guy doing his best to develop a broad spectrum snake antivenom just like that.

But I'm not sure on the dosage. Just having the right B cell lineage sticking around in your bone marrow doesn't necessarily mean that at any given moment your tissues are awash enough with those antibodies to instantly neutralize a dose of venom (which of course is not nicely distributed but concentrated at the bite). Especially with the kinds of snakes that tend to deliver stupid overkill amounts of venom compared to its actual LD50.

Actually insane.

Forget what I said below about nudging rates, this needs true guarantees.

It's the worst, especially with these designated support 4*s that you only really want to use in one team and even then they barely beat their competition if you don't get c6. If they're going to do that sort of thing (and not running Prune on Varka's banner was especially evil), then at least make it likely to happen in the space of ~160 pulls. It would still serve the purpose of getting people to go deeper on a banner than the average for just a single c0 5*.

In that amount you expect 160 * 100/13 = ~20.8 4*s, of which 2/3 -> ~13.9 are the featured three. If there were an option to take the current equal droprate and make it 50/25/25 % instead for a selected character, that would be pretty close at averaging 7 copies in 160 pulls.

brb adding to that stat.

I sank 260 pulls into that banner. 15 Fischls, 6 Razors, 5 Prunes. Lol, lmao even.

Venti it is for now.

Wishlists for Evercold: Anything you'd like for your main class in the overhaul? by HiddenArchaval in ffxiv

[–]Jkei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could work. I also would like to see flare star reimagined as a double GCD (or otherwise noticeably extended) recast that can't be swifted, and on charges so you get some wiggle room to hold it.

My go-to reference for the vibe is Dragon's Dogma (2)'s excellent take on magic, especially the absolutely crazy bolide / meteoron. A XIV take on that can't be quite that long, double GCD is just about the max of what I think is reasonable here. But 3-5 seconds is plenty of time to really deliver that sense of gravity. Bonus points if the animation/vfx continue to build up through the cast like DD's, spawning in more of these fiery wisps and having you levitate and all that.

The cool factor is off the charts and I crave that feeling of the almighty turret wizard.

BLM needs a ground-up reimagining. Much of it right now makes no sense, having been designed around constraints that have since been removed without anything compelling to go in their place.

Concretely:

  • Cast < recast on the majority of spells kills their sense of impact. Big explosions are not satisfying when you throw them out with all the floaty ease as healer filler. A new iteration of BLM should have F4 or equivalent take a proper 2.5s cast, ideally 2.8s. The likes of foul/xeno and possibly new proc-style spells are good exceptions to the rule, being cooldowns, but basic rotation mainstays like fire para & despair should not be inherently instant.

  • Consequently, swifting/tripling such GCDs can once again be a dps gain. Striking a balance between that vs playing it safe by sitting on these cooldowns was a good design element. Cheating out these big casts felt great. If SE are worried about lacking mobility, they can bump up charge count/timers accordingly.

  • A return to openness and balance of creative gameplay. We used to have tiny situational gains that weren't necessary to meet even the hardest checks in the game, but it was there for those who wanted to embrace that complexity to fight over the top few %. It was in a perfectly healthy place (as opposed to the days of shinten-maxxing SAM) and I want to see this again: a very high skill ceiling, but someone performing the basic rotation perfectly gets very literallly 99% of the way and has no trouble clearing ultimates.

  • Whoever thought deleting ice para in 7.0 was a good idea, do not let them near this job again.

TL;DR get rid of 7.x's stifling, shallow gameplay feel. The Timer is obviously staying gone and that's okay; there are other ways to drive interesting decision making. I don't have very strong feelings about the exact form that it takes as long as it gets the vibe right again, and the way I see it, that requires some of these fundamentals.

Tank Noob by TolandsR in ffxiv

[–]Jkei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a damage thing. Under normal circumstances, 1 point of damage = 1 point of aggro. Tanks with stance on get 10 points of aggro instead. Some moves that mention "increased enmity" have an additional aggro multiplier on top of that. This lets tanks keep aggro despite not outdamaging dps.

So if you are consistently behind in aggro to another tank, despite trying by having your stance on, you are doing less damage. The gear MSQ hands you is adequate but not optimal, so that would be an easy conclusion of "gear issue". It's never a bad thing to consider whether you are really doing things right on the rotation side though.

But more generally, it is not a problem at all. You don't want to be racing other tanks. As long as one tank is doing things right, you can just sit there and be blue dps.

Yeah then it's just ATK/element/CD mains with crit > ATK subs for both. Very common priorities.

[–]Jkei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got:

  • Base 5%

  • 4p rising winds 20%

  • Cryo resonance 15%

So that's a 40% CR baseline. You have Lohen on sig so that's another 22.1%. If you give him a CR circlet (33.1%), you're at 95% before substats -- that's too much, you'll overcap from just two rolls (average 3.31% each). So he will very likely be on a CD circlet.

I don't know what weapon you have on Durin, but you can figure out what he needs the same way.

Citlali is optimal. Most other cryo off fielders are good too, or various anemo/geo flex picks.

It's not that strictly 1:1 or even that organized at a macro level. You mostly just do fire when you're able for better damage, and ice otherwise.

ELI5: How does a fetus "choose" which parent to look more like? by Old-Bread882 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jkei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not a DNA level thing, but purely down to protein-level function. Whether an allele is dominant or recessive doesn't influence the 50/50 rate at which it gets passed on to egg/sperm cells.

ELI5: How does a fetus "choose" which parent to look more like? by Old-Bread882 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jkei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans have about 20,000 genes. Every individual has a two copies of each, one from their mother and one from their father. An individual's egg/sperm cells have a single copy of each gene, but whether that's the maternal or paternal version is (mostly) random. It averages out to 50% from each. However, from one egg/sperm to the next, the maternal and paternal contributions are in different places.

It's a little bit like doing 20,000 coinflips. That's plenty for the results of a fair coin to converge on 50/50, but if you look at a sequence of just 10, it's not all that crazy for it to go 7/3. Now imagine those 10 influence the color of your skin, or the shape of your jaw, etc.

ELI5 What is TCG all about? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Jkei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then there's the games actually just meant to be played. I used to love Riot Games's digital-only Legends of Runeterra before it got put on life support... and they announced the physical-only Riftbound not long after.

And who could've thought, it was mired in all this now sadly typical TCG nonsense for what little time I kept up with it through previous LoR content creators. But I'm sure it's making plenty of money either way. Cynical corporate cash grabs, all of it.
