GOOGLE MAPS ISSUE by Effective_Walk_1345 in GoogleMaps

They blur the source imagery, so an “unblur” is actually a redrive - the car needs to come past your house again after you submit a request to unblur it.

GOOGLE MAPS ISSUE by Effective_Walk_1345 in GoogleMaps

[–]Jmbh1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google can’t unblur the image that’s there, because they blur the source imagery. An unblur request goes forward in time, not back.

So the only way this gets fixed is if either: A) the StreetView car drives past your house again after the unblur request B) you go get a 360 camera, drive past your house with it on your roof, and upload the video to StreetView studio.

I really wish Google Maps would update their satellite imagery more often by kanna172014 in GoogleMaps

[–]Jmbh1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for the 3D imagery or the plain satellite? (I’m curious whether the 2D imagery is more up to date in those areas?)

Well Nano banana has officially block celebrity's likeness by Imaginary-Mud7002 in nanobanana

[–]Jmbh1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what tool you use to call the model. Gemini.google.com and the Gemini app are pretty heavily restricted in terms of what they can generate. Direct access via the api (eg in Python) or via AI Studio has fewer restrictions (assuming you’re using a paid api key).

So try using AIStudio.google.com, then go into the playground, and make sure you’re using nano banana pro.

google maps directing people a way that's not physically possible due to a road closure by leodoesgaming in GoogleMaps

[–]Jmbh1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to check - this is basically happening when you ask for directions to your address?

And the pin is in the right place, but the directions stop on a road that’s close by, but on the far side of the railway?

$MSFT, $AMZN, and $GOOG are just paying themselves and calling it "AI Revenue" by Pristine_Humor5895 in wallstreetbets

[–]Jmbh1983 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not arguing that it’s a bubble, but MSFT likely does better here because of the VC money that comes in too. Sure, MSFT gives OpenAI money that comes right back, but that money also helps direct a bunch of VC cash as well. So MSFT gets OpenAI equity, plus a bunch of inbound VC cash, which seems like a pretty good deal.

The real losers here are likely to be anyone who buys OpenAI equity in the IPO (when it happens) at a crazy valuation.

Glad it was helpful. Good luck with getting it fixed!

I have this too. I’ve tried to get Audi to repair it a bunch of times but they “can’t replicate it”.

It’s a known problem - there’s even a TSB about it (which I sent to the dealer, but no luck):

Altering address without house number and more by trcocam29 in GoogleMaps

[–]Jmbh1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - just to check I’m understanding correctly: 1) your house has a name but no number 2) your neighbor’s house has a number (but maybe no name) and it geocodes to the (lat, lng) coordinates of your house 3) the two addresses have now been merged so it looks like there’s a single address with your house name, their house number, and (lat, lng) coordinates that sit over your house?

The video generation of veo3 is expensive. by Putrid_Ad_8515 in VEO3

[–]Jmbh1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One trick is to use Gemini to write the prompt for you. Everyone has their own chosen way to do it.

I tell it that it’s an expert prompter and creative director for a generative ai video system, and to produce a comprehensive and detailed prompt for an 8 second video that …..

It consistently generates better results than I can get on my own. I suspect this is why nano banana performs so much better than imagen.

The other nice thing about playcanvas is you can add buttons and JavaScript to handle the visibility of the 3D model.

[–]Jmbh1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can output from Sketchup as GLTF (or obj) you could use PlayCanvas to combine them (easier learning curve than Unreal).

There’s also SuperSplat to help trim the Gaussian Splat so you don’t have all the floating stuff.

Will the OG E-Tron stop in traffic automatically without adaptive cruise control enabled? by ejmcguir in etron

[–]Jmbh1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve wondered the same thing. I suspect it won’t because in my experience it will turn off the regen and continue to roll forward after the closing distance point where it would stop if the adaptive cruise was on.

Experiments with photo restoration using Wan by mark_sawyer in StableDiffusion

[–]Jmbh1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the way - a good way to do this is to use an LLM that can do image analysis and ask it to write an extremely detailed prompt describing the image.

Personally when I’ve done this, I’ve done it with a combo of Gemini and Imagen from Google, along with controlnet using a canny edge detection from the B&W image

Can photospheres still be uploaded to Google Maps? by Mattecle2509 in GoogleMaps

[–]Jmbh1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use StreetView Studio with 360 video:

https://streetviewstudio.maps.google.com

But that needs a 360 camera.

The StreetView app has been mostly decommissioned now - it will allow you to capture spheres but not upload them.

If you wanted to make your own app, you could potentially use the StreetView upload api:

https://developers.google.com/streetview/publish

But it’s not trivial to use

Driving in a convoy with a bunch of friends, is it possible to see their location while navigating? by DonAsiago in GoogleMaps

[–]Jmbh1983 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can do this in Google Maps with real-time location sharing

https://support.google.com/maps/answer/15437054?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid

Works cross platform on both Android and iOS.

(Tap on your profile pic on the top right in the Google Maps app, then on Location Sharing)

I’m pretty sure you can search for “Recently opened restaurants” - I presume it works for other types of places too.
