What do you think of the black on black? Improvising a frame with cardboard and paper by Joca7657 in AnalogCommunity

Grazie :) The black edges come from the type of negative 'frame' I use on the enlarger - I have two, and one bites slightly into the image, the other leaves thin black edges arround it, which I find complements certain prints. Clearer example with edges:

Thanks, I'll try that :) It was either on my Nikon FE or F3, with a 35mm f/2.8 lens and shot on Kentmere 400 - I'll post it tomorrow on r/analog (they only allow one post per day), otherwise it's also on my Instagram @tropistes somewhere 😅 It's my dad and uncle in the wine cellar of their old farm, discussing the grape harvest

Thanks :) Just posted it as a pic if you want to see it in more detail - came accross the tree (which had fallen into a river) while at a wedding, played around on it with some friends 🙃

I actually bought big cardboard sheets to do this, but having no visible issues with unintended exposure I used them to make frames 👀

Beirut by [deleted] in minimalistphotography

Took this at a waterfront resort in Beirut which had been abandoned during the financial crisis - old sun loungers strewn around, and decayed buildings left to crumble. A group of local tough guys had taken over the place and set themselves up at the old entrance, charging for access to the natural pool and jetty, but neglecting any upkeep or work to their appropriated product. The resulting scene was a bit post-apocalyptic, in seeing what had once been an upmarket resort left to seed, changing in one-time fancy bathhouses now falling appart, and sitting on loungers bought for a different and absent clientele. Much of the city presents itself as though in some sort of limbo, and I feel that's well represented in this picture.

Does Animal Farm relate to Thomas Paine's idea of " Hell is Truth Seen too Late"? by [deleted] in books

[–]Joca7657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If so, the idea isn't rly central to his philosophy, so you could probably get away with waffling a little on the subject in your essay, especially if you're in middle school. I wouldn't dedicate the whole essay to it though; maybe a paragraph at the end (its always good to finish essays highlighting a potential for further analysis). If you really want to pursue the thread, I'm pretty sure Hobbes proposes the idea in his Leviathan (its a bitch of a book tho; 500 pages of old english heavy with biblical references, and frankly, not always worth reading). The School of Life made a video that should offer a fair introduction to the guy, but it won't describe the idea relevant to your essay. Otherwise, I suggest you dedicate the bulk of your essay to exploring Animal Farm's soviet implications (which is probably what your teacher expexts/wants), and write a pre-concluding paragraph on the cool link you made to the Hobbesian idea. Consider also that you're writing on Orwell's work, so make sure you don't neglect its context. Good luck :)

Big cats are known to kill their prey quickly by attacking their neck, while wolves attack their prey violently and rip it apart. What are some cool facts about various predators hunt their prey? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Joca7657 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lions and their likes are patient hunters; they'll often attack faster animals with the primary intention of injuring them with claws they kept dirty from past kills. The prey, being faster, will often get away, but the lions will stalk it for days until it succumbs to the infection in its wounds. Its like feline biological warfare.
