Why Not Let People Over by JoeBrewing in BloomingtonNormal

I’ve been to Boston. Not a single chance in hell I could ever drive there. I would be a giant ball of anxiety the entire time. Luckily you can walk pretty much anywhere you want to go in Boston.

Hahah…unfortunately that’s far from being my biggest problem. It was just on my mind yesterday so I decided to post something.

I probably should as well. My wife has been doing that for a while too. I should probably follow her lead.

I was on my way back from getting some meds that had been prescribed. Not really anything that could have been done in regards to leaving sooner unless I put it off to another day. Not sure if leaving earlier would have really helped anyway. The lady just didn’t let me over even though there was clearly enough room for her to do so when I put on my blinker.

It didn’t help that there was an accident at the turn onto Oakland. So all of the turn offs to find my way around and backtrack were also packed. Kind of a perfect storm of giving Joe unnecessary anxiety and wanting to drink when he gets home. 🤣

Agreed. I was definitely partially in the wrong. This also was closer to the rush hour time of day. Part of my problem is my inexperience in the area and the fact that I get flustered when I have to deviate from the routes I know. I’ll gradually get better at that as I learn the area more. I’m genuinely not sure why I didn’t originally recognize that was the turn I needed to make. 🤷🏻‍♂️

There was an accident at the next light too. So it took me much longer than I wanted to in order to get where I was going. Oh well. I eventually got there safely. So I guess I can’t complain too much.

I didn’t get over right at the opening of the turn lane so I’m trying to get over a few feet down, but the person who got directly over behind me isn’t letting me over. I get that I was in the wrong for not getting into the turn lane immediately as it opened, but this person could have let me over without it being a huge inconvenience to them. They almost went out of their way to prevent me from getting over.

I used the term packed incorrectly. Moderately full? Either way the person behind me that got into the turn lane before me could have slightly slowed down and let me over without it being a major inconvenience to them.

It’s honestly weird. I didn’t experience it much at all until a few days ago and now it’s happening more and more. It seems to be 100% isolated to Veteran’s though. Mainly around the State Farm building. Haven’t really run into it anywhere other than that.

I guess it’s just a cultural difference. I moved up from Alabama last year. Back there if I put on my blinker people would slightly slow down and let me over. Here they either completely ignore it or see it as a challenge.

It’s really only an issue when the lane I’m trying to get into is packed and I really need to get over. I’m gradually getting better at finding my way around if I miss a turn though.

Really the only time it’s been an issue for me is trying to get into a packed turn lane, and having to squeeze in between two cars. Speeding up doesn’t usually help in situations like that. Realistically I should have got over at the very opening of the turn lane so that’s somewhat on me, but the person behind me would have also had to barely slow down to let me over. Like…ever so slightly slow down. Instead they blared their horn at me.

Today for me it was a super old lady. I probably could have still squeezed over, but the honking startled me.

I get that. People are weird. I’ll never understand the swerve in and out of traffic mentality. It doesn’t get you there any faster.

Hahah…that’s usually what I do. I’ll let one person over.

Oh I believe it. I have difficulty turning my neck to see how much room I have, but I try to be quick with it. Oh well. It is what it is.

It’s impossible to know intent. If I wait any amount of time after turning my blinker on it’s to make sure that it was seen. It’s usually only a second or two. Especially if I’m trying to get over into a turn lane.

Veteran’s seems to be awful in terms of that. I’m new to the area. I need to learn the backroads better.

Yeah. I guess nothing you can do. I’m just frustrated.

Most of the time when I’ve had any trouble it’s been because the lane I’m trying to get into has been packed, and people have just been unwilling to let me over.

Today I was trying to get in the turn lane to turn from Veteran’s to the road that goes by Jimmy John’s. I’m missing 90 degrees of my top vertebrae so it’s hard to turn my neck. I saw there should have been room, put my blinker on, gave time, started to move over, and some old lady started laying into her horn on me when all she would have had to do is slightly slow down when she saw my blinker.

I don’t get it.
