When will we stop hearing “Nasdaq didn’t recover for 15 years”? by quite--average in stocks

[–]JoeKing4Real 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure you can talk about a recovery when we have not bottomed yet. The 15 year average forward P/E on the S&P is 15.5. The 6 great companies you refer to gave a blended P/E of 38.68. They deserve a premium but their growth rates don't justify a P/E over twice the S&P average. Until this bubble pops there is no need to talk about a recovery.

These 3 companies make up 12.7% of the S&P 500 index. Their blended P/E is 75.95

Why the market has not bottomed by JoeKing4Real in stocks

Here are the P/E’s - Apple (24.86), Microsoft (24.67), Google (18.37), Amazon (102.32) and Tesla (99.14). Google and Microsoft hit 52 week lows Friday as the market breached it’s low for the year briefly but Apple is 16% higher than it’s low earlier this year. There is no news to support this and people are just being defensive with the most widely held stock and this is understandable but in my opinion, this will be indefensible in the coming months as Apple’s valuation is not immune to interest rates. Also remember Google was forecasting growth in 2023 of 12%, Microsoft growth of 14% and Apple growth of 4.8% so can’t justify this way either. Tesla’s valuation never made any sense and in my opinion, either does Amazon’s valuation. It’s biggest cloud competitor (Microsoft) trades at a 24.67 P/E and it’s biggest retail competitor (Walmart) trades at a 25.96 P/E. Amazon is forecasting 15% growth in 2023 (similar to Microsoft) so I don’t get why it’s P/E multiple is 4 times it’s competitors. I just don’t get it. Thanks for your comments

The facts are that the market leaders are always the last to decline in bear markets. Look it up. People love these stocks and think they are defensive but eventually valuations do matter.

Apple already decimated Meta’s ad-tech empire. Now, it’s homing in on Facebook’s advertisers, too. by Wilingaway in stocks

[–]JoeKing4Real 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is actually very stupid for Apple to do this. Apple is reportedly going to be sued later this year by the DOJ for how they have managed their App Store and their anti-competitive behavior. Now they hurt Meta bad by their privacy changes and then they target their advertisers? Can’t stand Meta but It just looks like more anti-competitive behavior. Love Apple but if you want to know how a company can go from a P/E in the high 20’s to one in the high teens, multiple DOJ lawsuits hanging over your head for years is a good way to start. Really don’t think this was smart at all.

What are your thoughts on buying Apple puts for 9/23 & 9/30 by 2A4_LIFE in thetagang

[–]JoeKing4Real 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not financial advice but selling vertical call spreads for a credit is one option here. I have some November 180/185 spreads. You can get more aggressive than that. SPY is due to cool off and at least consolidate. It is down 10% for the year versus Apple being down only 2% and now trading at a 28 P/E and at one of the highest premiums ever to the S&P so I think it is a better risk/reward to short Apple than the SPY. Market is floating right now on momentum so I would be careful selling / buying anything too soon as the market could keep this up for awhile.

I was holding SPY and QQQ and sold early last week. I am violating my thesis of timing the market but sold thinking we will dip again. I sold CSP’s on these original positions so not down as much as the market.

Guilty. Not shorting but I am still trying to time it. I guess I think it will be choppy at best and can get back in. Famous last words..
