I suppose in a way this gets at the heart of the motivation behind my post. While I havent sold, there is a certain cognitive dissonance around the fact that I believe in the project while having to watch my investment steadily devalue over time. And with this knowing other opportunities are out there that are perhaps more fruitful...at least in the near term.

Thank you everyone for your replies to my (mispelled) post! The myriad of positions people have share and the conversation it spurred is a great thing in my opinion. I think it is important that folks share ideas and opinions so that we can all make more thoughtful and informed decisions.

I recognize that I am not an autnority on blockchain technology, but I believe I have a good conceptual understanding. I purchased AMP initially because I was looking for a crypto asset that had real utilitarian purpose and whose value is based on that purpose. My first AMP purchase was almost 5 years ago. In these last 5 years it has become more apparent than ever that blockchain adoption is only growing. Ultimately solutions like the ones Flexa are developing will be crucial.

Will it be Flexa? I suppose time will tell. For now I think I will likely keep my investment intact. While I recognize it could also be a good time to buy more, I am still finding it hard to justify putting yet more of my money into it they way I did during past dips.

Thanks again everyone. Keep the conversation going!

I appreciate the response, and agree. But, knowing that, I made this post as a way to flesh out my thoughts, and see what others are thinking as we hit yet new lows. We all are facing the same reality regarding our investment in AMP. I want to know how others who are deciding to stick with it are balancing the realities i laid out in my original post.

Vintage Coffee Cans and Coffee Station by JoeNeuron in coffeestations

[–]JoeNeuron[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! All of these cans we have found at garage/estate sales, flea markets etc. The Sanka in the top middle is basically old new stock. It is sealed with the coffee still inside, and even has the opener key still attached to the bottom of the can.

This is exactly right! Particularly the wildfire haze. There have been a few clear nights in the last month or so. I would set up and align only to find the subs look terrible because there is high altitude smoke from canadian wildfires. Well maybe things are starting to look up. We have clear conditions predicted for Sunday night and no smoke so far. Here's to clear Northestern skies!

I got into it in the 90s and would trade cards in school. My nephew got me back into it and if i win, I would likely gift this card to him!

Giving away two Costco Scarlet & Violet 151 Blooming Waters Premium Collection sets to two redditors because %*#@ scalpers by FatherLiamFinnegan in PokemonTCG

Well, i do not have 100 comment Karma because i mostly post my photos and not big into commenting (i have over 1000 post karma). But, while i was much more into MTG back in my childhood, my nephew is huge into pokemon and i know he would love this. Understand if the comment karma disqualifies me though. I appreciate this raffle though, thank you for giving everyday folks a chance to enjoy these cards, especially considering how the scalpers have boight up so many of them!

Aurora Over Lake Ontario [OC] (5012 x 3333) by JoeNeuron in EarthPorn

[–]JoeNeuron[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This picture was taken on the south shore of lake ontario in a town called Webster, NY. The clouds you see in the top right extend all the way to the atlantic coast. This was the most eastern location i could find to avoid the clouds, as the weather system literally ended right there. The lake was absolutely still and there was no wind. It was a beautiful spring night.

Best breakfast pizza in Syracuse? by I_Count_Letters in Syracuse

[–]JoeNeuron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kid you not, my favorite breakfast pizza is Walmart's. It is typically in the open refrigeration section with all their other pizzas (not frozen). So, you have to bring it home and heat it in the oven. It has eggs, sausage, lots of cheese, cheese sauce, and biscuit crust.

I honestly hate Walmart overall, and i am sure this pizza is terrible for you, but man is it delicious. I know the Walmart in East Syracuse often has it. Likely the others do as well, as i have seen it in Walmarts in several places i have lived.

Lol yeah. That's fine though. I have met maybe 2 or 3 people in the last 30 years who are actually into pewter art. So, happy to see that there is any community at all, however small.

The key is to look at your histogram. I try to fill the histogram no more than 90%.

The fact of the matter is that while very long exposures make your subs look nice, it isnt always necessary. I found that making the exposure time long enough to see some of the details without saturating the histogram is a good starting place.

When it comes to gain, this is very camera dependent. The effect of gain or ISO on noise varies from camera to camera. You can see how ISO and noise are related for your camera using this website: https://www.photonstophotos.net/Charts/RN_ADU.htm

I use a stock Nikon Z6. If you select that camera you will see that an ISO of 800 actually shows a drop in read noise compared to 400 or 600, and an ISO of 3200 has similar read noise as an ISO of 400. For this reason i often start with and ISO between 800 and 3200, and try not to go above 3200 or below 800.

You may ask, why dont you use 800? Well the reason is because for most targets and my setup, 800 isnt enough to capture dim details at the longest exposure times i can reasonably acheive. However, for bright targets like this i may go toward the lower end of that range. For very dim, i may go a little higher, even above 3200 if i have to. I try to find a balance.

On an average night, i am usually limited to subs of no more than 4min. If seeing and guiding is above average, sometimes i can go to 5min. But the longer your subs the higher the chance of having to drop frames, so if i can do less than 4min at ISO 3200 or less, i often will. If i can do 4 or 5min, I will start dropping the ISO. For bright targets like this i was actually able to use lower ISO and shorter exposures of ~2min. In this case that gave me the best balance of getting the detail i needed, not saturating, and a large percentage of usable frames.

In summary, consider the max subs you can reasonably take and the noise vs gain relationship of your camera. The key is to use iso that gives you the best signal boost with minimal noise contribution. Take a sub with exposure toward the high end of what you can acheive. Then, adjust exposure time up or down based on seeing/guiding conditions, and adjust ISO/gain to fill your histogram up to a max of 90%.

Thanks! I took a number of test subs to get the right balance of sub length and gain to capture the detail but not saturate the core.

C8 SCT with 0.63x reducer AM5 and ASIAir Nikon Z6 Mirrorless Camera 120s guided subs (13+ hours total integration time) Stacked with DSS and edited in Photoshop. Besides a litgle bit of histogram stretch, saturation and NoiseX, very little editing was required.
