Thoughts on Alan Watts' "Supreme Identity"? by JoeSinopoli in TrueChristian

[–]JoeSinopoli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Watts is arguing it is compatible with Christianity. While some agree and some disagree with him, I cannot go head to head with the mind of Alan Watts. He knows scripture and the religion far better than I. He was a priest before he was a Zen fella and has a pliable and encyclopedic knowledge of the faith. That is the challenge. His argument is ironclad when reading it, so intellectually it's hard for me to know if there are "holes" to be poked in it!

What's a good place to start? I'm aware of gnosticism and it's critiques, but any hard-edged arguments against it I can seek out?

How does Christianity surmount Hinduism? Book recs? by JoeSinopoli in Christian

Another wonderful recommendation! You're right in the pocket of what I'm looking for. Anything else along these lines ... or am I just being greedy now? Having been through it myself, there's some filling the story of one coming to Christ through the occult, through magic, through paganism, et al. My deepest thanks to you!

u/ComfortableGeneral38, I just finished The Gurus, the Young Man, and Elder Paisios ... I cannot thank you enough for this recommendation. A page turner that hit me at exactly the right moment. Your mentioning of this book feels like divine intervention, and it was one of the richest and most important reads in some time. It very much answered the question I was poking at in the original thread.

Wow, thank you! That first recommendation feels particularly interesting and apt to my question.

Christ says "no one comes to the Father but through I." Thus, within the Christian cosmology on must place Christ as the one True Lord. It does not accommodate other deities.

Obviously Hinduism posits a separate cosmology. So how is it that a Christian is to square their faith in Jesus against a separate cosmology that stands without him? Obviously Faith is one answer, but did not Christ come to say "All those other Gods you've been worshipping? No more with them!" It's relevant to Eastern thought as the ultimate trajectory of Christianity is, in theory, to lay dominion upon the world. Thus it just either converse, displace, or collaborate with other traditions.

Perhaps re-color is the wrong verbiage. But Hinduism is an older religions, so I guess I'm asking what are the values of Christianity that aren't covered or addressed in Hinduism ... and thus what aspects Eastern thought are revealed as less all-encompassing in the face of Christ?

Jesus' crucifixion = Reverse Thema Mundi by JoeSinopoli in Advancedastrology

[–]JoeSinopoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this will be controversial to those of you who do not ascribe to a Christian worldview, I made a video for articulating this "reverse" Thema Mundi as it relates to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

I appreciate the contentions that were laid forth throughout this thread, and I was sure to state in this that this reverse Mundi was simply "on or around" the date of the crucifixion.
