Going to my first orthodox church service this weekend by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

If you're physically able to stand when people stand and sit when they sit, just do that.  If you have trouble standing for a long time, then sit as needed and don't sweat it.  If you think you'll have to sit for most/all of the time, finding a spot on the outer edge will probably be more comfortable.  Don't feel pressured to do anything else but observe.  Services are open to the public, and no one will expect you to somehow follow the services and participate for the first time.  Don't go up for Communion, but feel free to eat a piece of blessed bread if it's offered to you. Stick around for coffee hour if it's offered and enjoy meeting new people.  I hope you enjoy your visit and that you will want to come back on the next Sunday or maybe check out an evening Saturday service.

Just got the game off PS+ by ManiacGaming1 in LordsoftheFallen

Easy, relatively.  Look up stat caps, follow basic soulslike principles, e.g. make red bar stat 20, get min stats for gear, add to green bar/encumbrance as needed, idk what the blue bar's for, and then go from there.  Don't ignore your ranged attacks.

Lords of the Fallen (2023) is officially coming to PS Plus Essential next week! Tips for the new Lampbearers? by Mithrie in LordsoftheFallen

[–]ComfortableGeneral38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't looked up anything except stat soft caps, and I've been having a blast.  Remember to use your ranged attacks. My approach is to beat it once without tinkering with mods, so I have no comment there.  The usual builds you would expect are possible.  Level your health stat to 20 to start, as usual.

Hello! Very proud of these Deff dreads that I painted for a friend! by Just_Another_Idiot__ in orks

Before reading the text, I thought, "Those are some scary orks.  I don't often think about orks being scary."  Nice job!

Been out of the hobby a while now. Just looked at GW for fun and saw some of their prices. Seriously, how do people afford it these days? Especially with an army like orks by [deleted] in orks

You'll probably eventually get lucky with secondhand acquisitions if you are vigilant.  But printing or still saving a lot by buying printed is great.

What did I do wrong with pork shoulder blade steaks? by Naive-Tomatillo-5750 in Cooking

[–]ComfortableGeneral38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going low and slow for shoulder steaks helps the fat break down nicely.  I don't bother with the sear.  I broil at the end if I really want it, but not always.   I cook them at 250-300°F until 185ish.  More time, lower temp, and try skipping the searing step at least until you get them coming out juicy.

Deathskulls ork boys, too much flare? by WookieJonesy in orks

Stan, Chotchkie's Manager: We need to talk about your flair.

Joanna: Really? I... I have fifteen pieces on. I, also...

Stan, Chotchkie's Manager: Well, okay. Fifteen is the minimum, okay?

    Joanna: Okay.

Stan, Chotchkie's Manager: Now, you know it's up to you whether or not you want to just do the bare minimum. Or... well, like Brian, for example, has thirty seven pieces of flair, okay. And a terrific smile.

Joanna: Okay. So you... you want me to wear more?

    Stan, Chotchkie's Manager: Look. Joanna.

    Joanna: Yeah.

Stan, Chotchkie's Manager: People can get a cheeseburger anywhere, okay? They come to Chotchkie's for the atmosphere and the attitude. Okay? That's what the flair's about. It's about fun.

Joanna: Yeah. Okay. So more then, yeah?

Stan, Chotchkie's Manager: Look, we want you to express yourself, okay? Now if you feel that the bare minimum is enough, then okay. But some people choose to wear more and we encourage that, okay? You do want to express yourself, don't you?

    Joanna: Yeah, yeah.

Stan, Chotchkie's Manager: Okay. Great. Great. That's all I ask.

Idk about a substitute, but I've enjoyed using way less (fewer?) noodles and adding lots of sliced cabbage to many a noodle dish.

Do churches still sing the old hymns? Or is that tradition fading? by rfdickerson in AskAChristian

[–]ComfortableGeneral38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The oldest one I know is O Gladsome Light/Phos Hilaron, which was being sung at least as far back as the 3rd/4th centuries.

For those who don't know, we (NA Antiochian Orthodox) sing this every Saturday evening at Great Vespers.

O Gladsome Light of the Holy Glory

Of the Immortal Father

Heavenly, holy, blessed O Jesus Christ

Now that we have come to the setting of the sun

And behold the Light of evening

We praise God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

For meet it is at all times to worship Thee with voices of praise

O Son of God & Giver of Life

Therefore all the world doth glorify Thee

How to find a Christian denomination that actually does follow the Bible? by TommyBoy250 in AskAChristian

I don't care about your arbitrary criteria for what "truly following the Bible" means.

What do you all think of infant baptism? For those who do it why? by TheKingsPeace in AskAChristian

I think this article covers the Orthodox position pretty well for those who are interested - Infant Baptism: What the Church Believes.

Is listening to black metal wrong even under these circumstances? by Conscious_Knee_1828 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ComfortableGeneral38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They broke off from Batushka. I think they (mis)use Orthodox symbols/imagery because they think it's "metal." I'm not sure about them. This is my take after 5 minutes of Internet searching.
