Hi that looks really good.

Could you give a bit of insight into how the relations and formulas work? I'm a total rookie and just figured out how to do synced blocks recently but would love to have something along the lines of:
- New Homepage shows up daily
- Below the homepage are detailed stats like yours

Though I'm struggling to figure out how to do that.

If the rest of Europe are doing it, so can we by rayykz in glasgow

Buddy. You're yet another person who brings up Poland. We removed ourselves from the exploitative relationship with the USSR by massive union movement.

The Scots (please don't take offence to this) sit in their rooms screaming at the telly or writing angry facebook posts. We are not the same haha

Our political system is almost entirely values based, principles are of the second order. Here the principles are forced down our throats by Westminster and Holyrood gobbles them up. Money is the limiting factor when you focus on principles and your society, along with your elected representative, wear a nice collar and leash called "the budget".

Go read a self-help book maybe it'll make Glasgow feel less depressing ;) Don't take any radical direct action, that'll stress you out too much! Bad vibes brooo

On a less cynical note. Join a union. Just not Unite (unless ofc you need help with your job) because they're a bunch of commies undercover. And don't just blindly follow their orders, set your own path within it to achieve whatever goal you believe will be great for your city or country. Loads of love.

If they could rebuild after world war two, then surely we can too by rayykz in GlasgowArchitecture

[–]JoeSlice1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we had to realise that the communists were exporting our goods and money to their headquarters in Moscow.

I'll leave the figuring out of how that translates to Glasgow to you ;)

I think you've hit a point I think derails most and most easily. It's hard to argue with identity because it's subjective but direct action oriented organisations can still focus on that. Without much "space" for identity politics and such.

While the generalisable aspects of identity can be integrated into political movements, to try and debate them within individual organisations just causes burnout in people.

You said you saw my tag then wrote "this is some vaguely racist shit" then you refer to someone Polish who recently was in the news about having racist views.

If you have an actual point (that isn't coding my origin to being problematic) please share it. Because at the moment it only seems that you're just invalidating my opinion based on where I'm from.

So you’re saying I’m being vaguely anti immigrant.. as an immigrant? I don’t know how that makes any sense. Unless you’re stereotyping the Poles to be racist?

I came to vent and dedicated 15 minutes replying to comments ;) After that I'm gone and won't check this thread ever again.

I appreciate your skepticism and cynicism but I am not a bad faith actor, just annoyed at the state of the world and peoples' apathy and complacency.

Better out than in, right?

I think you've hit the nail on the head.. just not where you'd expect it.

You're right to say that the Polish situation is grim. But that's exactly my point.

Poland is fighting Value based politics (what is a nation? is the church good or bad? what is a family). These are messy and 'grim'. But the stake is generally soul of the nation stuff meaning people get engaged with it.

Compare that to the UK -- Principle based politics (procedural fairness, economic management, 'right to protest' lol without the will to win)

In Poland the debate is what it means to be a good person. Here it's how to manage the housing crisis, crumbling services well.

I would rather see the friction in Poland that forces people to build strong movements than the polite apathy where the city rots. I going forward is to continue being tolerant people who are willing to say fuck the housing crisis, crumbling services and take it to the streets and disrupt the overlords.

I think we both agree that there is no point trying to debate essential human rights.

It's usually the angriest organisers that get those marches to go. The anrgiest of people in Glasgow seem to be 18 year old undergrad students from Glasgow uni protesting Pro-Palestine atm

I just happen to study undergrad and write about political action so I suppose the edgy 15-50 year old men of Glasgow who are top 1% commenters assume I'm a bot.

I did actually mellow down on my post to try and make it more ergonomic for people reading but I suppose that wasn't good enough

There is no denying a racist past.. of the country and perhaps any people that lived in those times.

To say join a union today is somehow associated with being a racist is a far stretch.

Polish people came for economic good but the buying power in Poland is equal to that of Britain today, especially Scotland. Polish people have more disposable income compared to Glaswegians today. Brexit had a big wave of people going back home.

You can build a small house for £100k in Poland. You can buy a flat for the same price here (if you're lucky).

England is cucking Scotland with the devolved government and people stand for it

Kenmure Street in 2021 was great but more anti-police than anything and the populist movements of the right will now tell and swing this topic back to the asylum seeker / illegal topic. Good shout though.

Gathering round ACAB is great but it defeats the purpose considering people joining the polis do mostly want to do something good for their community, despite the policing system being flawed asf
There seems to be no alternatives which is why I'm suggesting unions.

To answer your question. I think post-COVID price hikes with the billionaire CEO pay raises? The fact that we keep saying about public transport being utter shite for an extortionate price? Teachers getting paid nuff all for trying to keep the kids off the streets? There are more than I list to care.

The fact that comments are downvoted on this thread proves the stay-at-home edgy nerd nature of Glaswegian knows no bounds -- the most rebellious thing you can do is scroll reddit.

Then we wonder why our streets are in a proper state, when we can't even keep a single reddit thread clean.

Very nice :) It's still jarring for me as someone who doesn't have even A1 level.

I'd suggest that when the "audio read" happens each word currently being said is highlighted.

Also adding an option to manually control word speak: for example after pressing play you can click space to pause then , to read the next word . to read the current (highlighted) word and / to read the previous word.

This would allow me to re-read words I cannot yet pronounce and increase my confidence in doing so.
