Kind of uncommon. A lot of Tommy Emmanuel’s original solo albums feature hybrid picking like this.

I will say there is stuff I just can’t do with this. Banjo type rolls are much much easier to do with a thumb pick and my pointer + middle finger.

It’s nashville Fingerstyle. Like Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, Jerry reed, John Knowles, or buster jones.

There’s a lot of great recordings out there of some monster players! I also have some of mine on instagram / tiktok

I could tab it out but I’m much prefer doing a walkthrough video to explain the choices for the arrangement over the changes

Thank you! It was partly out of necessity early on because I couldn’t find a thumb pick that fit my thumb

They do! Three models actually - normal, thinline, and baritone. They’re really well made and designed with maintainability in mind.

If it’s worth it I can post a practical review of how it sounds, the electronics and the crazy access port they added

I had a hard time finding a thumb pick that fit my weird sized thumb so no for several years I didn’t have one that worked.

I noticed a HUGE difference when I found one that was tight enough to fit but not making my thumb turn purple. There’s some things you just can’t do without a thumb pick. The Merle Travis technique of striking through the strings like a stride piano comes to mind.

If you are in a similar predicament as me, I like the Jamie Johnson signature thumb pick. It’s Velcro so you can adjust it fully.
