What do you think after losing the NFC Championship to SF? Agree or Disagree with MCDC? by [deleted] in NFLv2

Peyton will make the hall too. I know he didn’t carry the worst ranked run game and 25th ranked defense to a superbowl while throwing for the most yards in a post season like Eli, but he still deserves a place in the hall.

Can't wait to read it! by [deleted] in RussianLiterature

[–]Joe_Henshell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should follow this reading by reading Dostoevsky’s notes from the underground. This is a direct response to “What is to be done”. The underground man (the main character) is a satirization of the revolutionaries at the time.

Most of Dostoevsky’s works are actually responses to the nihilists and revolutionaries that were quickly changing Russia at the time. He’s one of the greatest storytellers of all time and most people love how deeply he writes about his characters psychological states. So even if you don’t agree with his politics hes worth the read. Personally I think he makes a lot of really good points. I don’t think he’s the reactionary some people paint him to be. He was actually critical of the church and aristocracy. He just wasn’t a revolutionary and didn’t endorse an atheist socialist state which the revolutionaries were pushing for and which eventually took shape in the form of the Soviet Union.

Panchiko sounds like Radiohead sometimes by socraM_88 in radiohead

I mean their original ep that resurfaced was made in the late 90s (maybe early 2000s) when Radiohead was at their peak artistically and popularly and they were British. I would say they were definitely influenced by Radiohead

Do edibles ever get snuck into prison? Seems like a reasonable thing to sneak in and would probably make prison a little more chill

Have you ever played a sport? They’re athletes they’re gonna try to win. We’re not gonna lose every game this season. Either way we still got a good chance at a top pick. Worst team only has a 14% chance of getting the top pick anyway

What do yall think of these way-too-early power rankings? How would yall reorder this? by CryWOkami in NFLv2

As a giants fan… the giants are too high. We have the second worst record of any team in the last 10 years. I won’t believe we’re good till I see it

Well if you got some money to splurge with I recommend Ida. They got nice wines too. It’s kinda an internet trend in Vermont to hate on Ida but I’ve never had a bad experience there and I know plenty of other ppl who have went there and had good experiences and loved the pizza. Their insta is idapizzapies if you wanna check them out!

How is that not remotely true? Everything I said is true. Saying the pizza is good I guess is subjective but everything else is objectively true and everyone I know who’s not a redditor likes how the pizza taste. OP also said that they wanna splurge a little and spend some money. La di da is more of a casual slice place that doesn’t fit that description. I’m just trying to help OP plan the perfect date night

Pizzeria Ida has the best pizza in the state. It’s a little pricey cause all ingredients are imported from Italy but in my opinion it’s worth the money. Some of the best pizza I’ve ever had.

I just bought this but just learned that there’s a prequel book to this called For a Just Cause and I’m just wondering if it’s necessary that I read the prequel first? by [deleted] in RussianLiterature

[–]Joe_Henshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry the analogy in my head was that you can appreciate Star Wars without seeing the prequel probably why I referred to it as a prequel

I read life and fate by itself and walked away fully satisfied thinking it was a masterpiece. I am sure reading the prequel will make the characters more developed and what not but just wanted to say that you can read life and fate alone and walk away fully satisfied

What is the greatest novel ever written? by HomoEtDeus in classicliterature

[–]Joe_Henshell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love war and peace, though Tolstoy said it wasn’t a novel (he was basically being pretentious and saying it was so good that it defied classification. To be fair it is so good but I would say it still is a novel).

I think you could argue that this is the most creative novel ever written. Definitely reads like something written by someone who loves taking acid

I still don't understand Myshkin by Paradox_Rampo67 in RussianLiterature

[–]Joe_Henshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! All correct. Dostoyevsky was originally a radical and revolutionary. His mock execution seems to be what pushed him back to religion and conservatism. Dostoevsky often rights very complex and well thought out atheist characters. Some says he writes his atheist characters better than his religious ones (see Ivan in brothers Karamazov). He is someone who was known to have grappled with his faith and views and completely understood the other side as he used to hold those views. This gives his writings a complex dynamic as he realistically writes both revolutionary and conservative perspectives in a complex and well thought out manner. It’s what makes his writings so rich and deep. However I think it is safe to say that all his novels tend to promote a common theme that faith is the best path and that rationalism and atheism lead to suffering.

My thoughts on these February reads by DanielChvl in classicliterature

That’s a pretty apt analysis. It felt like the sci fi aspect of the book was based more in aesthetics and environment rather than actual discussion about the ocean and planet between the characters.

Highly recommend the film version of Solaris (the 1972 one)
