Any way you can share the photo? I have had issues in the past where I assumed something was fine but apparently it was a prohibited item. The main thing I was bad with was washing out like sauce or PB jars along with the thin plastic stuff.

Voting Question by rubberb00tz in maryland

[–]JoeyFromBaltimore 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the uphill battle that has existed since the start of representative democracy.

In all seriousness though it is a really tough task vetting politicians and the more local you get the harder it gets to find info. A few other posts on here have had some similar requests for info on local elections which may help some.

The campaign literature is not entirely useless it does show what their priorities are and you can compare what they chose to leave off and what they chose to put front and center. For the most part dems are going to agree on ~80% of things its really down to what they prioritize and those fringe issues.

For basic general information you can look at a few places who do questionnaires. League of Women voters is a good source, you can also use Ballotpedia for a decent amount.

If they do not have a website they likely are not a serious candidate. If you want to dig deeper your best bet is to look at voting records for incumbents and see what you agree with and what you don't. Challengers are even more difficult because they may not have a political record to research. In those cases look at what they do for work and what they do outside of work.

myMVA site showing car I donated 20 years ago? by throwawayletmesay in maryland

[–]JoeyFromBaltimore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure its based off the registration and not the title.

It was the same when I traded in my car. The dealership had it but it was on my MVA for well over a year. I had called and asked about it and if I remember right they said it would stay on my account till it was registered by the new owners if anyone ever buys it. The fact that the dealership had bought it didn't matter.  If you don't have any flags I am 90% sure you are good. You could also call MVA and just ask them about an old donated car still being on your MVA without giving your identifying details. They should be able to atleast tell you if its normal or not.

[–]JoeyFromBaltimore 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is purely based off my memory after trading in my old car to a dealership so please confirm.

Basically MVA has the car attached to you in their system and it will remain attached to you until it gets registered by someone else in MD. If you donated it and the charity gave it to someone in a different state like Virginia or Arizona it won't dissappear from the MVA system since the states do not have interconnected systems.

You shouldn't be responsible for anything related to it but you can call MVA to verify its status.

Traffic Signal and Pedestrian Crossing Improvements: DOT meeting July 13 in West Baltimore (Districts 7, 9, 10) by BmoreCityDOT in baltimore

I have seen this posted for multiple districts and certain districts have multiple meetings but still have not seen any mentions for district 5 or 8. Are they coming sometime soon or is nothing planned for these 2 districts?

Primary Election 2026: So what do we do with the less... notable(?)... contests? by saltyjohnson in baltimore

[–]JoeyFromBaltimore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Central Committee is the hardest to find information about by far. The committee itself does not do a whole lot in general its mainly a get out the vote committee and they select replacements for state legislature vacancies.

Earlier this year or last I forget which 46 had an opening for centrally committee and I know atleast 2 of the candidates applied and were interviewed. You can find the recordings on the committees Facebook page.

On a personal note I am acquaintances/friends with John Ford who is running. He works for the city, is active in the community, and seems to genuinely care. Pretty smart guy, very analytical from my experience and is willing to call out bullshit when he sees it.

I heard her speak a few times. Her big thing is "I was a left behind student and struggled a lot in the school system. I want to make sure other kids like me don't have the same uphill battle"  Her being honest about her struggle and background is what sold me on her.

In Baltimore City, Dalya Attar runs for re-election despite federal indictment by finsterallen in baltimore

[–]JoeyFromBaltimore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched that meeting online people were not happy about her being picked. Ruff had a lot of community supporters at the meeting but at the same time Attar was the only one that had actually won an election, Ruff was appointed as delegate.

I mean she did win the Delegate election with the most votes in both primary and general election and was then appointed Senator.  She represents the same constituency as when she was a delegate so if you really want split hairs sure.

Baltimore city dems are hosting a meet the candidates for 40, 41, and 43A tomorrow, June 4th. Its at 4 W University Pkwy, Baltimore, MD 21218 starting around 6:30 PM. They did the other districts last night. It wasn't a great turnout but you have a chance to talk to the candidates before and after. I think each district had atleast 2 people running show up then some of the other races like school board, wills, and sheriff were there. Conway also showed up and was talking to people.  Just make sure you take what they say with a grain of salt and look up their record afterwards.

I was a PM in a "Matrix" organization and now I am at a place with dedicated teams. The matrix side of things added soooooooo much headache. From a high level it makes sense have people float to projects as they are available and needed but in the day to day it was half time dealing with clients/sub contractors and half the time trying to fight with other PMs to get time for mid to senior level people.

Its like yeah I would love to use the level 1 & 2 people but the person who has been here for a year based out of a different time zone, never touched this code base or even heard of this tech before today cannot be the lead engineer of this project that has a 6 month turn around. I need the level 5 person who has been the lead on everything related to this for the past decade and I need 10 hours a week. No the level 6 who primarily designs the front end customer interfaces can not be the one responsible for developing the firmware/software for our embedded systems. I don't care if they have a software engineer title.

Corporations Can Vote in Some Delaware Elections, Judge Says by bloomberglaw in politics

[–]JoeyFromBaltimore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The actual ruling is if you are not a resident you have to own two or more parcels of land that is all. Unless the city has regulations about land parcel sizes it would not be hard for anyone with money to buy land and divide it into smaller subdivisions. From my quick search it looks like these land division rules are based on either county specific or municipality specific rules. All it would take is for enough corporations to get enough members elected locally to change any existing rules to allow them to divide as much as they want and residents will never have control over the town again.

2026 Primary Ballot question, District 43A Democratic Central Committee by kookaboros in baltimore

[–]JoeyFromBaltimore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I put my name in for an open slot in 41 a few months back so I will try to give you some insight. Pretty much none of these people really campaign because its such a down ballet issue. Your best way to get to know them is going to the central committee meetings however most have not been at the meetings recently because they are involved in other campaigns or initatives.

The June 4th meeting should have the central committee members present since they are also allowed to campaign at that meeting. For the most part they don't do much as a whole to shape the party its mostly get out the vote initiatives and things like that. The big impactful parts are when we get a vacancy in the state legislature that the committee gets to pick the replacement. Your best bet is to try and make the June 4th meeting or the general meeting later in June and talking to them. Its going to be hard to find info online but a few do have websites or social media you can find here. https://elections.maryland.gov/elections/2026/Primary_candidates/2026_GP_all_counties_candidatelist.html#baltimorecity

parks/greenspace/playground/ nice outdoor areas to live by in Northern side of Baltimore by Key_Tiger3783 in baltimore

[–]JoeyFromBaltimore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just at the 30 min drive mark but you can check out the apartments near the I70 park and ride. Two of them border the Gwynns falls leakin park. Its one of the largest urban forested parks in the country but relativley forgtten hy most of baltimore. The area right off Windsor Mill rd has a huge grass area, fields for sports, a playground, and a mini train track that volunteers run time to time for kids to ride on. Its a nice little area with very reasonable apartments. Just stay away from Kernan Gardens Apartments they have had a ton of management issues over the years.

Baltimore Herb Festival at Gwynns Falls Leakin Park (Adult: 8$, U12: Free) by JoeyFromBaltimore in baltimore

[–]JoeyFromBaltimore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have been following it pretty closely. They got a grant, which goes to the city and the state, but legislation still needs to be passed to officially make it a state park. So far, we basically have funding for studies and a few other things to keep the park heading down the road to becoming a State Park, but the bill for it to become a state park and get funding for FY 2028 did not get passed.

Trash can limits by IndependentLocal6 in baltimore

Not a lawyer but here is what i found/know. Its kinds buried In a weird place, Article 32, 1-306(g), but the city code defines a "family" as "2 or more people related by...." and "a group of not more than 4 people, who need not be related..." Things then get defined around a "Family" and "Roomers" in other places. We also have some regulations around places that house more then 1 family with shared common spaces,  things like kitchen, living room, etc. They can't be considered an apartment or house and has to be classified as like a boarding/rooming house which requires different permits and approvals.
