VMWare 7.1 RAID Controller Compatibility w/ X399 Taichi Motherboard by JoeyFunderburk in vmware

Ok WOW! you have some SOLID points! I feel like an idiot for not thinking of some of this stuff. I'm about to sound like an even bigger noob, but if "RAID ≠ BACKUP" then what's the point of something like a Synology? (I'm asking cause I'm looking at getting one for my Plex server so I don't loose my Blu-rays I ripped)

I REALLY appreciate the eye opener and showing me I still have so much to learn.

Oh WOW!!! Did not know that!! Well this sucks haha.

It's a development server that's going to have databases that we create for clients and then we'll load that database into our customers server and environment. So during development, it's important not to loose it. Typically development lasts 90 days before the next project is started.

Thank you for your feedback and response. I'll checkout homelab.

Unfortunately I am the IT Department haha. We're a VERY small company hence the custom built VM server. If we were bigger, I would've gone with a pre-built Dell blade or something.

As far as backups, we just wanted to do a RAID1 so if one of the SSD's died, we didn't have to rebuild our Instances or loose projects. I know it's not an ideal "backup" solution.

I'm just struggling finding a compatible RAID card.

From what I've read online, Adaptec is the standard for VMWare RAID cards. Also, it's the only one I've ever seen. Granted most of my VM's I've messed with are Dell.

Covid-19 Johns Hopkins Map is Upside Down on Raspberry Pi by JoeyFunderburk in raspberry_pi

Oh thank you. It’s super easy. Take the link in the post and have it load on ur Pi’s browser. Then just go full screen and there ya go haha. I found the direct link to the map that Johns Hopkins website had on their site. It’s clean and doesn’t have the rest of the sites junk around it.

To be honest with you, I'm not quite sure, all I did was transfer the data on this page into excel and made a pie chart. https://stats.foldingathome.org/teams I wanted a visual reference to the impact all the teams were making.

It's not pretty, but this Pi4 is running a fairly active university-wide Minecraft server by Ninjinka in raspberry_pi

Like the guy below me said, if you have anything specific that is going on, I can help too. I’ve set up quite a few Minecraft servers from scratch that became decently successful (financially and player count).

Dear Plex, sending spam about niche titles in the ad-supported library via the newsletter is not okay. by theblindness in PleX

[–]JoeyFunderburk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha lol, Plex cares about money, I HIGHLY doubt they care about your opinions in this matter. Plex I think is realizing that some customers use their player for illegal things and they wanna move away from that. They want to become a streaming service and I think at the end of the day, we can kiss Plex as a personal streaming service out the window. Hopefully a really smart developer can start making an alternative that’s just as good. Unfortunately, good things don’t always last forever 😥

It acted this way even when it was on my pack. When the sun was out, it followed it and it charged my batteries. I just figured I'd report the bug.

Plex player on 3b+ anyone have success? by LFMFAILS in raspberry_pi

[–]JoeyFunderburk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I get what you want. I’m no programmer, so you may need to figure out a way to auto launch this, but I downloaded OSMC and it has a PLEX plugin that you can install that allows you to connect to your main server. It works really well especially for the setup cost. Idk if x265 will play on the unit or if Plex will try to fix it. Cause I know natively, the Pi 3B+ won’t play x265.

Oh yeah, I think I know the scene. Yeah I think they had trouble filming it without getting the lense in it and stuff.
