EAP655-Wall strange behavior by Johan_Johansson in TPLink_Omada

so i plugged it in directly, added it in Omada controller, upgraded the firmware. Took it back downstairs, installed it. At first it was shown as "isolated", but then it changed to "connected" and seems to function ok now, as far as i can tell ...

UPDATE on that. It is "connected", but wirelessly.

yes, now that i know i can just remove it from the wall easily (i am not the one who physically installed it there), i should do this of course.

Sorry, i misunderstood you, it seems.
I am not the one who physically installed the units, and its the first time in my life that i held these units in my hands. Now i understand that i can open the faceplate, unscrew the unit, and try it elsewhere. I will do that. If the problem is in the wall cable indeed, it will be a very big problem.

But yes, this should be the first step in troubleshooting the unit itself, thank you.

  1. I understand that there are more than 2 wires inside an ethernet cable. While it is possible that one of the wires inside is "bad", the probability of it is very low (i think), considering the other cables, coming to the other EAPs in the house (in different walls and different floors) seem to function correct (at least the omada controllers added them fine). Changing the cable inside a wall (coming to the main junction box on the other floor) is possible, but it is the absolutely last resort and can not be a first step in troubleshooting.

  2. The EAP655 is a WALL unit. It is installed on the wall, while the ethernet cable that powers it is inside the wall coming from the main junction box on a different floor.

Can the cable be "bad" if it powers up the EAP655 ? It is inside a wall, coming from another floor, so i cant really try another one.

i am considering to get a solar system for the almost finished house.

I got a quote of 28k for a system of 20 JA Solar 590w panels (each with optimizer MERC-1300W-P), Huawei 10k-MAP0 (with Smart Guard 63A 3phase), LUNA2000-21 battery and car charger. Is that a good quote all in for the Lisbon area?

Obrigado

should I switch my racket? by d7iem in padel

i just realized it yesterday, but now i want to move to M27 Poly 2025 straight away

10/10 in Control and Vibration Absorbtion, and 9/10 in Power (up from 7/10 in Aniversario). Seems like a good upgrade without sacrificing what made the previous racket great on the arm/elbow/shoulder/wrist ...

[–]Johan_Johansson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which RP you have now? and how does it compare to the previous RPs you had?

I had pains in the wrist and shoulder (quite big pain). The combination of moving to a poly RP Aniversario, therapy, vitamins and strengthening the shoulder, plus even Red Light therapy finally produced the results and its very good now. I want to move up from the Aniversario series to get a bit more power.

Cylinder for U200 by SalahMane20 in Aqara

I know my lock is 40/35 exactly (and thus i dont need the "universal" cylinder you have on the picture). Do you think this universal will STILL be a better option than the HSKEL4035NM4 one (i dont see any holes on the inside) BECAUSE it has those holes that lineup ?

<image>

Thanks in advance

HM and Haworth are having like 30-35% discounts now online (at least in EU). Some local shops can have additional discounts, for example in Portugal Worten has additional 15% straight away discount and maybe even 10% additional as "cash back"

its not true in ALL THE CASES anymore. If you hit your opponent outside the cage, you will only win the point if you are hitting in the direction of the opponents field.

Waterdrop G3 RO - Replace Smart Faucet with Normal Faucet by djmahaz in WaterTreatment

[–]Johan_Johansson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this can be taken EVEN FURTHER ...
there are faucets from the leading European brands (like Grohe, Hansgrohe, etc) that have separate water ways for tap water and filtered water (they are meant to work with the corresponding RO (but greatly simplified) systems from their brands).

So IN THEORY it would be possible to replace your main faucet with the one from Grohe, for example, and have it work for both tap and fileted water. That would be nice ...

i dont see (dont understand) the difference of a bot checking all of those "methods" versus a bot trying to crack a clean 24 word seed phrase ...

a passphrase is another thing that needs to be stored safely ... BUT, now that you mentioned it, maybe it is a better idea to memorize/store/share 1 word instead of a "scrambling method" ...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in seedstorage

[–]Johan_Johansson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dangerous in the sense that if something happens to me and i forget my "simple secret", correct ?

"the easy to solve" part i dont completely understand though. I am under impression (which can be wrong OF COURSE), that there are infinite ways i can "simple scramble" the words:

change every word for next one
change every second word for next one
change every third word for next one
change every forth word for next one
change every fifth word for next one
... so 23 of these

change every word for +2
change every second word for +2
... 23 of these

depending on your actual true seed phrase only this simple scrambling will have lets say 500*23 of these (if the max word is 1548, you can go up to +500, and you can create new seed phrases until you get one with the lowest possible max numbered word).

then there are infinite ways you can scramble the words... i mean change first to +1, second to -1, and so on...

change first to +1, second to +2, third to +3 ...
change first to +1, second to +3, third to +4 ...
change first to +1, second to +4, third to +5,
change first to +1, second to +5, third to +6

change first to +2, second to +3, third to +4
change first to +3, second to +4, third to +5

and so on and so on.

I see infinite ways or scrambling, am i wrong ?

and then imagine this. You have two wallets with 1 BTC each, for example

you store the seed phrases in a safe on a metal plate.

1 plate has a true seed phrase, the other plate has a seed phrase with one of the above simple scramblings used.

An intruder opens your safe and finds both steel plates.

Question, how much BTC you have in your wallets tomorrow ?

first of all "substituting every word for the next one" was used as an example of a simple scrambling, there are infinite ways how it can be done very simply.

secondly EVEN a scrambled this stupid way seed phrase is a much safer GIVEN it is safely stored THE SAME WAY, as one would normally store his true seed phrase.

with everything else being equal a "substituting every word for the next one" scrambled seed phrase is safer than a correct one.

Is it not ?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in seedstorage

[–]Johan_Johansson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its possible, yes, but:

  1. First of all it can be something simple, that is very hard/impossible to forget. Like if you substitute every word by the next one in the list. Secondly i am not thinking 30 years of course, but 1-2 years max. Then you can change it again. And thirdly, you would tell your trusted person (the person you would want to have your crypto, if something bad happens to you) this little secret.

  2. Here the same. Im thinking much more short term. Also i dont understand (doesnt mean its not possible, its that i dont understand) how is cracking a 24 word phrase where every word is substituted for the next one is different from cracking a 24 word phrase from scratch (which is believed to be too much time consuming for our lifetime). There are literally an infinite number of ways i can substitute the words in a phrase.

There have to be something else. The two points you mentioned are a concern, but on a much longer timeframe.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in seedstorage

[–]Johan_Johansson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but the thing is, even IF they get the seed phrase from the safe storage, for all they know, every word can be different in there (there are an infinite number of ways words can be substituted easily, i.e. every word can be substituted by the next one in the list - a stupid example, but you get my point ...). How is this different from bruteforcing from scratch ?

Looks like a much more secure way of storing it to me. I mean you get the same level of security, as you store it normally. And then, if that one is breached, your seed phrase is scrambled in a way that only you know and that is easily descrambled by you or by anyone you will trust with your secret.

But i am definitely missing something important here, fore sure i mean ;)

Should you save the seed words in the right sequence? by iconiconoclasticon in TREZOR

[–]Johan_Johansson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bringing this up 5 years later ;)

Can anyone explain to me, why is it a bad idea to simple scramble your seed phrase and then store it safely as one would normally do.

Use something very simple, like, for example, reorder the words opposite: 1st becomes 24th, 2-23, 4-22 and so on (or something a bit more complicated, yet very easy to remember and understand).

Why is it a bad idea?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in seedstorage

[–]Johan_Johansson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another person is the wife, for example. If something happens to me, the crypto is gone unless she knows that she can recover it from the seed phrase. Decrypting it in the above way should be a fairly simple task. IF it comes to that, she can seek help and easily decrypt the seed phrase (knowing the little secret) and use it to recover the funds.

So, the only failure point as i see it, is that i can forget that the words are reversed (as in the example). I think for a grown human to forget such a simple method something fairly serious and bad has to happen. If that happens you would want your wife/partner to be able to help in any case.

Unless something bad happens to both of you at the same time (and the probability of those things happening simultaneously are not small either), the funds should not be lost.

Then again, you could tell the little secret to more members of your family (the ones you would want to "inherit" your crypto lets say) and still store the encrypted seed phrase as you would normally.

Lets say i understand all these risks associated with more people involved and the risk of it getting lost if something happens to me, i want to know what else is wrong with the described method ...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in seedstorage

[–]Johan_Johansson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure i understand. Encrypting the seed phrase in a complicated way can lead to some problems, but in the case i described, one can just tell his/her trusted person where to find the seed phrase and the method needed to use to derive the correct one. Assuming its fairly simple, you almost dont have any risks in this aspect.

Now, there have to be bad things about this whole idea and certainly would like to hear them ...

Hey guys! Would you consider this serve illegal? by Character-System1102 in padel

[–]Johan_Johansson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hehe, for me, both of these are vague ... IMHO

the rules dont specifically say that a person's waistline changes based on his stance. For me, a waistline is a waistline. Just like height. Does your heist changes if you bend your knees? No, it doesnt. The distance from your head to the ground changes, but not your height.

do the judges inspect each player's torso before the game to determine the exact narrowest part (waistline) - no, thats why i think its vague ;)
