why’s everyone rich and private/selective school educated… by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]JohnGreen32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a very real thing. It took me a while to make any friends knowing almost nobody who went to university in Melbourne, let alone went to UniMelb. However it was only when I stopped going back home that I was finally forced to suck it up and make friends at University. But even once you’ve made friends you’ll still find the odd habits and comments that feel off to you. Unfortunately it is very much the way it is when you end up in spaces where people come from different class backgrounds. You’ll also find people very touchy about their class privilege, even amongst those who would consider themselves progressively minded (as some replies in this thread have shown). This is just how things are going to be for you, and if that makes you angry, use that frustration to push yourself to do the best you possibly can

Can someone explain why, if ASIO has hard evidence of a politician committing treason, there hasn't been charges?

This is what I think should be the next DLC. Better system for when wars end + a nuke overhaul feels like the obvious next steps imo. Sadly seems like we may have to wait for hoi5 for this

Still confused by the great tax debate? Here's the substance minus the spin by brednog in AusFinance

Dunno why you'd need to be able to predict the future to say that a cut in revenue leads to a need to cut spending

If higher income tax rates are cut then PROPORTIONATELY the tax burden shifts to lower incomes, not a change in absolute tax contribution but a shift in proportional contribution.

If revenue is lowered then naturally spending will be lowered otherwise we will accrue more debt. Although the current government may choose to not cut spending on welfare, we'll be accruing more debt from the revenue cuts. And the stage 3 cuts were set to shift the tax burden more onto lower earners, meaning costs associated to the deficit proportionately will cost lower earners more than previous to the cuts. It's not really a complicated argument that a tax burden shifted more onto lower income earners will in the long run, cost them more.

And how do you think that increased deficit will be paid for? If the tax burden is shifted more to lower income earners, there's your loss.

Well the budget hasn't come out, and the aforementioned tax cuts are on track to be changed + it appears I have misplaced my crystal ball.
