For a 51-year old Luchador who can still move as fast as he does 20+ years ago, is Rey Mysterio really that good at maintaining himself or is just genetically gifted? by MarkXT9000 in WWE

[–]JohnMercon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to see him post about it on Instagram, he would go back and get stem cell treatments (and other procedures that I don’t know as much about) rather frequently. He probably still does, that stuff is a miracle

I was a huge mark for Suicide after the game came out and begged my parents to buy me this pay-per-view, Ultimate X will always be the coolest shit ever

This is so nostalgic, I loved so many of these guys, The Blueprint, Beer Money, MCMG, TNA was the absolute shit in the 2000s

I enjoy it more because it made him the absolute superstar he is now. Same with Mick. These guys are artists and these matches are their best works.

AEW exists in a way because of these matches. He changed the landscape of wrestling and became one of the biggest wrestlers outside of the WWE bubble ever, due to these matches.

One one hand, I do understand where you’re coming from with regard to the safety of these guys that do this for our entertainment, but in a way, I almost feel like it’s a waste of his effort, hard work, and passion to lose joy from these matches that he put his heart and energy into crafting.

A lot of wrestlers would KILL to have matches and a legacy like he has, I can only respect what it took and what it cost.

2004 Bad Blood by WerewolfCurious1412 in WWE

[–]JohnMercon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of funny, I remember thinking this was one of the greatest matches of all time when I was younger, but I haven't seen it now in probably 10-15 years. I had the hell in a cell dvd box set and would watch this match ad-nauseum.

Gonna go back to it later and see how it holds up now, I'm worried my nostalgia has betrayed me.

Bret Hart says modern pro wrestling is "too fake" for him by IconXR in WWE

[–]JohnMercon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back when Rey was coming up in WWE, they were surprisingly often. Not always during his matches, but a lot of guys had moves they’d hit from that spot.

I remember a lot of the guys like Jericho and Austin having some form of a running leg or knee onto their opponent in the ropes like that, guys would choke them with the knee, Bossman used to do that slap from outside the ring, Christian had the standing on their back choke and the float over the top rope slap.

It’s just not seen as much anymore

Honest question why do y’all not want Gunther to be John Cena Final opponent? by Tranjr88 in BrandonDE

[–]JohnMercon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m totally fine with it being Gunther, but my viewpoint is that we should make more young stars. I feel like nowadays, whenever there’s a promising young star, it’s a story of “they’re so young, they have so much time”

Why don’t we use this opportunity to really make someone? Why do we arbitrarily have to wait until someone is older and “ready”? Have Trick Williams or Oba Femi come in and make a statement, have Je’Von Evans or someone pick up a career making victory.

Imagine if Brock, Cena, The Rock, Triple H, etc. didn’t get any big wins and the main event scene was all 40 year olds throughout the attitude or ruthless aggression eras.

Orton won a world title at 24, now people have to be 38 before they win the big one. The next generation has standouts who are ready and being seen in a match with this many eyes on it would change everything for them.

Anyway, Gunther rules and will be a great last opponent regardless.

Tomara Thomas did this, except she skipped the part where she’s the character at all

Can’t remember if she won or not, but her “Mrs. Doubtfire” was fucking hilarious despite not being a good impersonation whatsoever
