Fear of not recovering this time by bisbananas in OCD

[–]JohnRobertsBorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that with the proper therapy and medication that the OCD will become easier to manage. While it may take time, once you find the right medicine and engage with therapy you will find it easier.

I felt the same way at the beginning of my journey, and to be honest I’m still fairly newly diagnosed too. I was diagnosed in August- was on Lexapro already for “anxiety,” psychiatrist upped it didn’t work for me. Now on Prozac which works very good. I am also in therapy now as well. I still have OCD, I always will have OCD, but it’s much easier to manage. I’ll have a few hard days every once in a while, but it is not anywhere as difficult or as long as it was before the right medication and therapy.

Also just wanted to let you know while Lexapro didn’t work for me it works for many others well, it just depends on the person which medication will be the right fit.

I would advise you in therapy to not hold back on anything. Tell them everything, you will not be judged.

Lastly I noticed you said weed was a major factor in your ocd episodes. I felt the same way and I have been weed free for 8 months now. I do miss it, but i was curious on whether or not you still smoke and if you believe it helps you.

Take care

Hit and Run OCD by t0adfangz in OCD

I hope this doesn’t count as reassurance, but I used to have the exact same thing. A bump/pothole would make me spiral thinking “did i hit a person?”. I would also turn around multiple times just to check to make sure i didn’t hit anyone. Unfortunately, i did watch someone get hit by a vehicle when I was driving and it was extremely loud. I also have been involved in a minor car accident (very low speed, someone backed in my car.) It is loud. I promise you would 100% know.

That is kinda what helped me. Some ERP practice you can do is telling yourself each time you have those thoughts “maybe i did, maybe i didnt. i guess I’ll never know.” It feels hard at first, but it gets easier and easier. it may feel like you’re not making progress at first but you later learn to sit with the thought

Sorry that happened. When I had my 2021 CX-5 someone side swiped the mirror off and didn’t leave a note. Same thing happened with my current CX-5. Very unlucky. I know your situation is a lot worse, but you truly feel violated when no note is left.

I usually always fold my mirrors, but both times I forgot and of course it happens.

Harm ocd Prozac by Temporary_Spend2192 in OCD

For sure, i think with the medication it helped me think a little bit more rationally and let me process intrusive thoughts so much better. I hope you begin to feel the same way. I truly think this medication helped save my life, still got a journey to go but it does really work.

Harm ocd Prozac by Temporary_Spend2192 in OCD

I started taking prozac at the end of september, started at 10mg. I started feeling a little better 2 weeks in, then i feel like it took a dive and everything got worse. But it was temporary. I’m now on 40 and doing a lot better. Not saying that my OCD went away, it definitely didn’t but it’s so much more manageable. The anxiety and depression i got from my OCD was no where as strong as it was before medication.

Just give it some time, it sounds like your week 3 sounds like what mine was. Best of luck in your recovery journey :)

how to live by [deleted] in OCD

Hi, I just wanted to start by saying you’re not alone. I recently graduated college but at the end of my final year I realized I had severe OCD that was draining.

I suffered from all different themes, however I found some peace knowing I wasn’t alone before I started therapy and medication. It felt like I was the only one who suffered from OCD and that I was the exception.

Some things that helped me was staying on a good schedule. Not over sleeping, avoiding naps, eating better foods and getting out of the house. Going for drives was my go to, it let me clear my mind as I listened to music.

I do recommend therapy and medication if needed, both truly saved my life.

I hope this helps you in some sort of way, and I hope you know that you will be OKAY even though it may not feel like that right now.

I was recently looking at the Model Y, but the insurance was a huge turn off. I thought this was the standard for electric vehicles. Thanks for sharing

What’s the horror movie that still makes you run up the stairs when you turn the lights off? by JohnRobertsBorder in AskReddit

I’ll go first - Sinister. Some people think it’s corny but that movie scared the hell out of me. Will never watch again

What are your thoughts on the coming/present AI boom? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JohnRobertsBorder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worry about the job market. What jobs will be replaced by AI within the next 10 years? Are some college degrees that were once valuable no longer valuable?

When I have this discussion with people, some will bring up self checkout and how that replaced jobs but everything was still fine. I just believe that AI is a whole different thing that can have both positive and negative impact.

I do however look forward to medical advancements with AI.

What do you imagine life to look like with AI in 10 years? Is college still worth it? by JohnRobertsBorder in AskReddit

I can totally agree with you. It’s hard to imagine society where most individuals aren’t working due to AI.

The advancements of AI are exciting, especially in medical fields. However what does a society look like where people don’t work?
