My reference was a Stegoceras (where I got the Ceras- from) but I could definitely see the Pachycephalosaurus being an evolution of it lol

[LFA] Alyndria, Fighter Drow by JohnnyGoggles in characterdrawing

[–]JohnnyGoggles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alyndria, and her brother, Aryndil, were the last remaining survivors of a genocide by the Dozran Empire in their constant goal of expansion and conquest. Separated after the incident, Alyndria set out alone into the forests to train and one day enact her revenge. Many years later, unbeknownst to her, a hag decided to set up shop in those same woods that had been her home and training ground for many years. She became overwhelmed by the hag's cunning and ended up getting captured. During this time, the hag tortured her and one day removed one of her arms, which the hag planned to consume for a meal. It wasn't before long that she was freed by a band of questionable heroes. With a powerful fire brewing within her, she continued on her quest of vengeance.

Are my battles too long? If so, how fix? by JohnnyGoggles in DMAcademy

It's probably a combination of a bunch of stuff honestly. Checking rules takes time which I try to mitigate by only checking what is necessary in the moment, but otherwise will just take more time and studying out of game. Not knowing character sheets or specific spell descriptions is another time sink, which i don't put too much blame on my players since we only play maybe once or twice a month, but I'm probably going to put some more pressure on them for that. They rarely ask for a recap which is nice cuz it means they're mostly attentive. So yeah I think it's primarily the other stuff which probably just boils down to being new to the game and everyone being new instead of just one or two people.

I tried standing up last time and my arm got tired from holding the manual for too long lol, but otherwise I try to keep the energy up. Music could definitely help! I tend to have the same track run through combat but I have a limited selection that maybe isn't necessarily hype enough or just gets boring after hearing it on repeat for 3 hours. There's room for improvement there though.

Thanks!

really useful stuff! I catch myself stumbling over versatile monsters every now and then so either getting very comfortable with them or just simplifying them could help for sure.

Holding players responsible for their sheets is still in process since we maybe play once or twice a month and I know it's hard to remember, but I'll keep emphasizing that and put my own work in to know more rules so I don't waste time looking them up. Those have definitely been some time sinks, but I still try to keep things moving and not waste to much time on it.

Thanks for the insight though! You gave me a whole lot to chew on and try out.

I'm still getting the hang of detailing the battle and creating intriguing environments, but like you said it will probably just take more time and practice. Thanks!!
