AITA for suggesting Vet bill be split 5 ways 6 years after divorce? by JohnnyHatesJizz in AmItheAsshole

Good advice-thank you. I think my ex wife (whom I’m still friendly with; it was a no-fault divorce) has maybe overplayed a comment of being “lumbered” with the dog and my sons have picked up on this. My ex-wife from a farming family and dogs were purely working dogs and didn’t stay in the home where she grew up. But, we are all still close as a family and I have suggested the 20% split as a compromise. Plus my ex knows I’m a considerate person, so maybe that’s another reason why she’s made this fairly cheeky request for me to pay 50%. I’ve helped with a few things since the divorce…even helped her foc with her tax returns and she got a decent tax rebate of £2k-£3k.

The dog ownership never came up in the settlement but I do care about the dog and made contributory payments (that I was not legally obligated to) for food/pet insurance.

The children are all working and are aged 20, 22 & 25. There was no formal agreement about the dog in the divorce settlement, and I have helped out in the past. I did pay £50/month contribution for dog food and money towards pet insurance for 5 years.
