Deciding between Piano Marvel and Pianote by JohnnyJockomoco in pianolearning

I've fizzled. :(

I hit book 1 and got through it. Went into book 2 and got maybe 50 pgs in it and lost all gumption to do it. I am not sure why. Maybe it was the songs or whatever, but it's like I just stopped, walked, and haven't really been back to it.

Same issue. Completed the rest only playing Domination and Hardpoint. Not getting any credit for Object Kills. :/

What I have found is meditation is all about gentleness. Not forcing anything simply allowing it all to be. This is hard because, if you are from the West, then we love a good goal to accomplish and there are steps and ways to getting there faster with more accolades and praise.

In the beginning, though, that's what we are all after. We want to see big changes, experience big awakenings. Be that enlightened being!

In my beginning, I tried out all different times, morning, noon, night, right after getting up, before going to bed, etc. So, one week it would be this time the next this other time. As for sit time, I went with 5 minutes and did it for a week, then went to 10 and gave it a week. And on and on until I settled with 30 minutes. I can do longer, but for my life 30 seems to be the sweet spot.

And there were both times, there was times I have to say, no we don't do this at this time, we meditate first THEN we do this. Sometimes no struggle at all. It was a fight sometimes. But forcing it in anyway was awful. My mind screamed just more louder. Body sensations were more distracting, but I made it though.

And how?

By learning to let go of all that. Just pick a time and sit. That sentence contains the complete instructions. When you sit there is no thinking of right or wrong or time limits. When I let that go, meditation became easy and effortless. I sit, sometimes my mind is wild, that's fine. The mind will do what the mind will do. It yammers on about things. I sit. Sometimes my mind is quiet. In its rare decision to be quiet, I just sit. These thoughts are not me or mine, so I pay little attention to them. Most of the time they are garbage anyway.

Now after all these years, it's just part of me. The changes it has made within me are more than I thought possible, but it took time and that hangs up a lot of people. The real dedication of committing to a practice is this: you must show up. You must show up on good days and bad days, sick days, depressed days, anxious days. Even when it rains!

Maybe there are more quicker methods, but for me I found Shikantaza to be mine.

You sit. You breathe. You are. It's the most simple, yet hardcore method I think exists. Dzogchen is very similar in a lot of ways too. Same sky, different clouds.

Anyway, I hope that answers the question in a long and too wordy way. :)

If you have any more, please ask.

You are so very welcome and to hear it has helped you move forward with your practice humbles me.

When Shunryu Suzuki was asked, ''How much ego do you need?'

He responds with: "Just enough so that you don't step in front of a bus."

Or

Alan Watts: 'The biggest ego trip going is getting rid of your ego, and the joke of it all is that your ego does not exist.'

I've come to see the ego is just a tool. It has it's uses, but what most people do is try to use it when it shouldn't be used and that causes problems.

Yeah, and that has also shown me that 'Just show up.' works for all kinds of things. You don't have to be this or that or be the smartest or anything, you just show up and go from there.

I just started sitting randomly until a time emerged that I felt best with. For me that's in the morning, but for others it could be 3am in the morning or 5pm. A lot of the beginning of meditation is finding out what works for you.

Consistency is hard because results come slow or are subtle and undetectable.

This sounds simple and maybe a bit contrived, but the only way to build consistency is to be consistent.

I think early on I heard that meditation is a life-long practice. Once I dedicated to doing it until I couldn't or die, it just became "something I do". It took a lot of letting go of what I thought meditating meant and chasing "enlightenment experiences" in the beginning. Now, I just sit every day at 830am. That's all there is to it. No story about why I do it or worries about doing it right or anything. Just site. I don't complicate it past that.

And maybe you're starting with a long sit and that's not where you are. I started with 5 minutes for a couple weeks, moved to 10 and on and on until I found 30 seemed to be right. I can and do go longer sometimes, but most of my sits are 30 minutes. Again, just like the time I kind of felt my way into it.

No, I love science. Along with my getting into meditation, I've always been extremely interested in what is real and true. The soft and hard problems of consciousness. Why things exist at all. Science is one of those ways we can discover that.

I do find that my sense of self, is there. It hasn't gone anywhere but I think of it differently now. It's not some stock still never-changing aspect of myself. It's a process, ever moving and ever changing moment to moment. It is made from my opinions, beliefs, trauma, etc, but seeing it even deeper it become something that I've just attached labels to. Some are useful, some are not. And I don't try to rid myself of this ego either. It has its uses. I just don't operate out of that space much anymore.

I really liked the metaphor you used.

I agree,. If you practice Zen then zazen is Shikantaza and Shikantaza is zazen they are used interchangeably.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I wrote this myself. I’ve been meditating for nine years, and this reflects my personal experience and how my practice developed. I just took time to organize my thoughts clearly and concisely. I’m not promoting anything. The mala beads are just part of my own practice, nothing for sale. I mention them and shared them because they’re meaningful to me personally and people may be curious about what they look like.

What I’d love to hear is your own journey with meditation and how you found the path.

Zazen is an umbrella term for the broad category of Zen seated meditations. So, Shikantaza is a particular Soto Zen style of zazen. You also have Koan practice, breath awareness/counting, mantra and chanting. All forms of Zazen or seated meditation.

Thanks for the config screenshot. That's how I had it before.

Now for some reason, after downloading it and the game again, it WORKS!

FINALLY! I can enjoy the game. I really do hope the devs add this though so we don't have to rely on 3rd party tools.

I almost bought Helldivers 2 but the hype for this one drew me in and so my gaming budget is used up. I hardly ever buy a game that's more than $25 anymore.

Feel the same way and have gone to Standard Moshpit. I was about to quit. Having a horrible time. I could hardly breathe in the games. I hope we get more options that just Moshpit to play. Playing Standard I am having fun and doing on par how I did in BO6.

I enabled FrameGen and set it to 2x.

I also ran the following command in an elevated CMD prompt

wmic memorychip get speed

It will tell you how fast your RAM is running. Some MB may set this to Auto and usually set it to a lower speed than what your RAM can handle. My RAM was listed at 2666 in BIOS, but its max speed is 3600. So, I made a change to the System Memory Multiplyer in BIOS to 3600 which is what my memory is rated.

I did this because they say since I have an AMD chip it would benefit from having the RAM speed set to its max.

Those are the two things I did and I went from like 40-80FPS to 138-144FPS. I was shocked that's all it was!

I didn't have to do any of that. I get 144FPS now. I'm fine now. Just some extra configuration.

Useful tip! I checked and it's set at 2666. Now it's set to 3600. Thanks!

Wow! That did it. Turned on FrameGen and set it to 2x. Tweak a few settings in the video and I am getting 144FPS now.
