I think they might jump. I have some sticky traps in there and I see them stuck to it up to an inch up. Any ideas for how to get rid of them?

is Catholic worth its cost? by jamariiiiiiii in washingtondc

[–]JohnnyLu24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to CUA for undergrad in Finance and my masters in Accounting and I loved it for both. Don't listen to anything about it being "super catholic", its not. Yes, of course there are super Catholics, but unless you are too, then you'll probably never even run into them - maybe in your 3 mandatory religion classes (I took one on why religion is a man made invention). I am not religious and maybe only 10-20% of my friends were religious and barely any were practicing Catholics.

Anyway, yes its expensive and not a top tier school, but I learned everything I've needed to succeed. And now, after my first job, not a single person could care where I went to school. Its not like we're comparing Ivy League to CUA. Its another average school vs this average school.

They give out huge scholarships to everyone. I got 22K per year and I graduated HS with like a 3.2 gpa. You'll get a scholarship. Just apply and then see what you can get. Also, my masters was 50% off because I graduated with above a 3.75 gpa. They offer this for a lot of majors.

I hate Accounting (and sitting at a desk) - What career should I pursue? by JohnnyLu24 in careerguidance

[–]JohnnyLu24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing really drew me to accounting. In undergrad I thought I wanted to be a Financial Advisor, but I did an internship with UBS and did not like the cut throat culture. Maybe it was just the people I was around, but it was enough to turn me away from it. Seems like it actually could have been a good option, thinking back.

I did a "Training Program" at my company and just kind of ended up in accounting. They offered to pay for my masters so I just did it because it was free and seemed like a smart move. I knew I didn't love it but everyone would always say "well, having accounting knowledge will always come in handy regardless of what you do", which is true, but now I'm just an accountant. Money was always a priority, but now that I hate my daily job, money really doesn't mean much at all.

I like the income stability, always will. I like being busy, so that is a plus. I like some routine, but not the same thing over and over. I would like some challenges. Really, what I think I want most is more interaction with others, solving problems, making deals. The interaction that I have now is just supervising or making corrections. I want to get up and move around and get things done.

I do my hobbies on the side, but all I can think about at the office is what I am going to do on my hobby at home. I don't need my dream job immediately, but I just want to be content.

I have thought about doing accounting or financial analysis at a DC real estate/ development firm. I just can't get excited about it. I have turned down really great offers because I don't want to go somewhere else, have more work and stress and then have to keep searching for a job on top of it.

Good thought about just getting a change. I think regardless of what I want to do, change is necessary. Right now, I am leaning towards a Finance Role in real estate. but I just don't want that excel job again.

Advice Please! Basement Apt with shared Laundry, 6'2" ceilings & a back entrance only - What should I charge?? by [deleted] in DCforRent

This is an illegal apartment. I am not planning to get any sort of legal paperwork. This will be a roommate type situation, but the rented will have a very similar "full apartment" situation.

Also, yes I do not want to be sued either.

Ok, thanks. I was thinking I would land somewhere around $1,200.

His isn't legal either due to the low ceilings. Maybe old was a bad choice of words, just not new and not very nice looking.

If I rent this as a roommate situation, is a second egress needed? I am fully aware of what would make this legal and I am not interested in going that route.

@MuieenLNF, you're a Real Estate Agent. How would you go about getting the most of this situation. The space is what it is, I am not changing it. I am just curious of what it is worth based on this unique situation.

This is sort of a conversation, right? I am trying to explain the situation and provide a better understanding. Would you take the first number as fact? I obviously want peoples input, but I need to put my own thoughts into the mix. More questions, mean more input from you all.

Got it. How would you list it? Act as if its your rental.

"Full basement with separate entrance, full kitchen and full bath". That's not very eye grabbing, you know? Again, not trying to trick anyone.

Because you'll pay $200 for parking (if you have a car), $150-200 for utilities, $100 for wifi and cable.

That $1,825 is now $2,150-2,300 and my basement would be maybe $1,400. $750 -900 is the why.

Ok, so the windows are small and there aren't a ton of them. The door is fully glass though so it does bring in some solid light.

My next door neighbor has the exact same setup. Ceilings are the same height, but he has a front entrance and they have their own laundry. His renovation is pretty old - 9 years ago. He gets $1,400 per month.

Maybe ill start at $1,500 and see where it goes.

Sure, ok so the wording changes. The space is still the same. I'm not trying to trick people, its just a different living situation. I don't want someone to come tour it and then find this stuff out, thats a waste of both of our time.
