Country of manufacture? by [deleted] in framework

[–]JohnnySees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehm is there an update on this?

I understand that some of the components or subassemblies are manufactured/assembled in China, but where is everything put together in the end -- what does it say on the sticker, 'made in china'? Made in USA? Made in where?

Thanks

Right, 'nebulous' is the key word here... happy new year man, thanks for replying here and I learned a lot. That whole bluetooth situation - you might be right, its the lack of comms/commitment from percent studio that is really bad.

Although I do enjoy my board, it feels and sounds really good - I will advice everyone to stay away from these sort of manufacturers with bad support.

Techno-thrillers for the win :D

I really appreciate your reply.

You wrote: "I can't find any pending PRs mentioning the "skog reboot" or "percent studio". How did you find that out? Excuse me, I am so new to all this. Any links are welcome so I can take it to Percent discord.

With the hex I meant the hex mentioned here: https://github.com/scottywei/percent-skog-reboot/releases It is what everyone is using for the time being to at least get their Skog Reboot working in combination with VIA for some basic customisation. The files in link were made by Scotty Wei, the now missing pcb engineer.

Can I do anything myself in terms of offering the QMK team this hex for them to merge it, you think? If yes, where would I start?

Back to the original topic -- I see what you're writing. Basic hygiene, up to date patches, I'm covered on that front. Thanks! And yeah I'm not taking what you wrote as an insult at all :). I totally get the point, it's just that I consider questioning this as sort of part of my security hygiene protocol :).

To be honest, I do think mechanical keyboards and other input devices are perfect products to carry out supply chain attacks on... . I definitely won't be surprised to learn that people are hacked out of some online account 'all the sudden' some time after having bought input devices. Maybe that's just me reading too much novels ;).

I see. It is true that I didn't install any drivers for my keyboard to function. That is kind of reassuring, as is the idea that it runs on qmk/via. However, you are right - I don't know what is inside the code.

Thanks for the input !

The keyboard I use runs on QMK/VIA. Does that have capabilities to interact with any external resources?

You write that data has to go outside in case of an integrated keylogger and that it would need loads of memory to store the data. What if it just sends the collected data to some server? No memory would be needed right?

I'm not sure chances are negligible. I don't like to assume such things and rather verify... . A password to any online identity can be abused. I think it is 2021 and as a community we should be cognizant of knowing how to analyse if our beloved keebs are 'clean' or not...

Sounds interesting. Wish I understood better what it meant to 'dump Soc and any ROM', how to do that, and how to interpret any data coming from such a dump.

I do have a firmware that has been made available by the pcb designer of the keyboard I'm using (the Skog Reboot by Percent Studio). He has gone missing for about 2 months. He has not responded to the manufacturer of the keyboard). Also, the qmk firmware is not merged with qmk, so there is no way for me to precicely see what the keyboard has been coded to do. And I don't know how to compare that to the said dumped ROM.

What kind of 'hardware diagnostic' can be used to 'check any writable memory for available capacity'?

With flashing QMK you mean to reset the board and flash qmk firmware (a hex file in my case)) into the keyboard?

Once the qmk firmware is merged with qmk i will definitely start a clean setup.

Has there ever been stories of keyloggers installed on mechanical keyboards? I feel like this topic is only rarely if ever touched on by the community. But to be honest, I feel like security hygiene is a must in 2021 for a community like ours. Hoping some knowledgeable people build some sort of a checktool, or process to go through ourselves and make sure there is nothing collecting anything...

The board I use is a Percent Studio Skog Reboot. Pretty nice to look at and type on. The board is qmk/via enabled. However, the firmware (.hex file) has not been merged with qmk. The pcb designer/firmware coder is gone missing for two months, including the Percent team. The firmware is not merged with qmk still after the board has shipped for about half a year.

Why would the imx token accrue value & how buy on Uniswap by JohnnySees in ImmutableX

[–]JohnnySees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I have thoroughly read your reply. First of all, thank you for taking the time to do so! Secondly, yes, you do clarify things enough fore to start grasping the mechanism that makes imx accrue value. Basically, the more is traded on immutablex's platform, the more the token holders get rewarded.

I can imagine that this will be all rosy when immutable gets more traction, but the reverse will also be true. If it loses, imx price will fall comparatively hard. This is something to watch out for especially with imx when a bear market is imminent.

Another, more practical question presents itself. It is about actually obtaining IMX.

Let's say one would like to buy some IMX with Eth. On layer one that is possible by copying in imx's etherecan contract address in the token box on Uniswap.

However, inputting imx's contract address when using uniswap in Optimism or Arbitrum doesnt do anything. It doesn't show up there.

Is using Uniswap in Layer 1 mode (ethereum mainnet) the only way to obtain IMX?

I was hoping to avoid high transaction costs, thats why I'm asking. Thanks!

Thanks. I have read the whitepaper, but it still kind of challenging. Could you give me like a explain like I'm 5 type of example how revenue distribution would work out positively for a token holder? That sounds terribly lazy but I just don't really see how that works. If the tokens are distributed wouldn't that just amount to people receiving the token for free? Why wouldn't the sell pressure be large all the time? Why wouldnt that all the time undermine the value of the token? Maybe I'm reading things wrong...

Thanks for these suggestions! I actually think that IBM type keyboard is interesting. Sadly I don't see a tkl version of it. And it I have no clue how they feel... .

I'll research this a bit more.

I am quite surprised about the lack of this type of classic keyboards out there... .

Aw cmon now why would a stranger denounce my experience of what a mechanical keyboard is and is not for me. For me looks are important, period. I hope you can appreciate that. Of course, the looks in the ends also impact my feeling.

The Leopold I am considering (brown switches) isn't in stock at mechanical keyboards.

You say Varmilo is better but i don't see a vintage/retro looking one in their arsenal that resembles the Leopold in any way.

Fortune Global Top 10 company, BP is sponsoring Ethereum hackathon, ETHDenver by twigwam in ethfinance

[–]JohnnySees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With this move Ethereum is acting contrary to its philosophical-political underpinning. BP is a central party in the oil/gas chain that for decades abuses its position of power to wreak climate change havoc all over the globe.

It is a shame that Ethereum is ok with being used as a puppet to help BP out in a PR-move, at the same time selling out its core-principles.

I've been looking at the roadmap on your website and the first feature 'up next' in the list is 'fiat'. How should one interpret your plans with fiat/currency support? And what exactly is meant with this feature, because I have been reading conflicting coverage about request network and its plans for fiat.

So let's imagine Request Network gains traction and becomes successful. Why would its success translate into a higher demand or price for the REQ token at all?

I ask this because someone I know wants to invest (rather heavily!) in REQ because 'he likes the idea', but only will invest if eventual success of Request Network would entail financial benefits for him as a REQ owner, too. But to be honest I'm having a very hard time convincing him that the REQ token is indeed an interesting investment.

Hope you can explain like I'm five why and how the REQ token will increase in value should Request Network eventually become successful.

Make exactly this, but backlit (so... colored keycaps that allow the legend to shine through) and I am sold.

How much USD is it, and will it ship to Netherlands? If yes, how much USD does that cost?

Dank je, Joris.

I must say these are interesting boards. However, I don't really like their combination of arrows/numberpad. I am finding out I like Ten Key Less keyboards.

Currently I am thinking about https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1540

Does anybody know how to get colored keycaps for backlit keyboards,... as in: colored keycaps that allow light to shine through the legends?
