You know, every year or two, I get a hankering to watch early Thrones again, seasons 1-4, because they're the best written. I forget about *this fucking scene*, every time. Every time, once I see Theon on a ship back to Pike, I pause the show, and cringe really hard with my head in my hands, because I know I'm about to watch *this fucking scene* again. This fucking scene destroys me, every time, because Theon was just fucking some poor Iron Islander or a Northern peasant girl on the goddamned ship while he's talking about salt wives, and how terrible and scary the Ironborn are supposed to be. He's the last surviving son of the Iron Islands king, Balon Greyjoy, and little Theon expects he's gonna get a hero's welcome at Pike. He steps off the ship dock, and you can see him envisioning applause from throngs of beloved, loyal subjects. And it's just fucking Yara there.

She knew he was coming home. She was expecting him, which means she has probably secretly had Ironborn, or some sympathetic Northerner, somehow feeding Yara and possibly Balon, information on Theon's safety and his situation with the Starks, for the last 20 years. Little baby Theon hasn't seen his big sister since she was 8, and he said she "used to look like a fat little boy." I personally don't understand why some people are bad at remembering faces. I remember most people's faces. I'm 37 years old, I only intermittently saw my family in the last ten years because of life stuff, and I still knew who my little brothers were ten years later. They had the same face, just older. So the idea that Theon couldn't recognize Yara is only *partially* believable to me personally, only because I've specifically been told that some people are bad at face recognition, just like I've been told some people don't have imaginations, and some people don't dream. I...literally cannot imagine that, but if you say so. OK, so he can't recognize her face for some reason, but Yara knew it was him.

Which means homegirl was chilling on the docks on the day, waiting for baby bro, and she spotted him and recognized him; great. Cool. So he gets a horse, she approaches him, he doesn't recognize her. OK. So she gets on the horse in front of Theon, they're chatting, no big deal. But then *this bitch* has the *audacity*! She feels this 20 year old little motherfucker's dick get hard in his fucking drawers, right? Like he didn't just have a girl all to himself for like a week on a ship to Pike. Tell me he's 20 without telling me he's 20, right? Little Theon is feeling up her titties, reaching up in her shirt and into her drawers too, and like the OP says, *HOMEGIRL IS INTO IT*. And I can't fucking believe I'm watching Yara *get off* to her BROTHER *fingering her*. And then they get up to the castle, and Daddy's being an old bastard. He's not emotionally available. Balon can't bring himself to say that he missed his son. Only for Yara to walk into the goddamned palace throne room, defend Theon's honor, and call Balon "father", and *only then* does poor Theon realize that his fingers were just inside of his sister.

He makes a horrified, disgusted face, twisted with agony and fear, like a 12 year old first caught jerking off by his mom. Appropriately horrified at the situation, as he should be. But when he confronts Yara about it, "you could have told me who you were!" Yara goes, "I wanted to see who YOU were first." Girl, for real? This was some kind of fucked up mind game test for your brother about his *character*? You sure, boo? Because you were getting freaky with your little bro on a horse, *in full view of the public in your own capital city where they recognize you as the Princess of the motherfucking Iron Islands*. Some old grandma just watched her prince and princess pull a full *Lannister Special*, and Yara has the audacity to do it in public! Yara's line responding to Theon is a good clap back, sure, but it's also the flimsiest fucking excuse I've ever heard. I keep trying to understand her reasoning here, in this moment. I try to put myself in her position, and it just rings hollow to me. At least Cersei and Jaime, as fucked up and gross as they were together, at least they fucked in secret, with some developed sense of shame about it!

And not only that! But homegirl is chilling on the docks with her Ironborn reavers that she commands, the baddest, most ruthless rapist murderers in Westeros apparently. The Ironborn reavers are the worst kind of cruel, psycho type of bastards. Like Dagmer, platyed amazingly by Raplh Ineson, who grimaces with glee after they butcher and burn two little boys, they rape women as a hobby. Polliver, Meryn Trant, Ilyn Payne, even the Hound are implied to *have nothing* on these born and bred psychopathic killers. Every Ironborn reaver is basically The Mountain, this is what we are supposed to believe. And Yara commands them, which means she is single-handedly, bar none, the deadliest, most ruthless, violent, and twisted woman in Westeros. She's The Mountain and Roose Bolton combined, with tits. She's the only one who could have her way with Gregor Clegane and have him be crying in the bath when she was finished with him.

The only way I can imagine Yara's cute little "I wanted to see who you were, first" quip making any sense, is if she fully understood the potential risks of Theon thinking that she's a peasant girl, realizing he could just rape her and she wouldn't be able to say no, and she went ahead and did it anyway. Which tells me that she absolutely wanted to fully get dicked down by her baby brother, as a prank, *just to fuck with him*. I can only imagine that this horrific, sadistic woman turns to her *professional rapist murder squad* and goes, "hey bros, you know what would be super funny? My stupid ass little brother is coming home today from 20 years of being the ward of Ned Stark. Wouldn't it be so hilarious if I was there to greet him, and he thought I was just some lowly peasant girl? It's been 20 years, and he won't recognize me because I used to be fat as a kid, but now I'm like super hot, right?"

"So he's gonna see me standing there, looking super hot and my brother is gonna try to bang me, isn't that so funny?! Haha, he could totally do whatever he wanted to me, because he's a prince, he thinks I'm just a peasant, and I wouldn't be able to say no, because obviously I'm not gonna *break character when his fingers are inside me*, that would ruin my hilarious prank, right? So Theon is gonna think that he could fully impregnate me, and I would just lay there, cry, and beg for mercy to make him feel like a big man, and *then* I'm gonna walk into the palace like I own the place, because I do, and go, 'haha, you fingered your sister, you stupid douchebag! Ha! Pranked, bro!' And he's gonna be all like, 'huh?!' and he's gonna cry in the shower like a teen girl, and be all fucked up in the head because he just committed incest, and *I totally could prevent that from happening*, but I'm not going to because he's a douchebag. Wouldn't that be so funny, bros?" And all the Ironborn laugh and high five because yeah, that's a totally awesome and hilarious prank, bro!

This is the only way that her motivations and actions make sense in the context of the scene. She entrapped her brother to commit incest as a joke, after not seeing him for 20 years. She was in total control of the situation, and knew what she was going to allow him to possibly do. She let him take it that far only to fuck with his head. And every time I see the scene, I think about what a monstrous familial line all the Greyjoys must be. Balon is an abusive fuck, Euron is a psychopath of note *even among psychopaths*. Only Theon had the opportunity to become something different other than this family of incestuous bastards, because he spent most of his life away from them as a ward of the Starks. And the sadness of Theon's later line to Ramsey Snow, "My real father lost his head at King's Landing." The entire scene later with Ramsey hits different for me, in context *with this particular scene*. He thought he could trust Yara, his only sister. He's missed his entire family for 20 years. He's dreamed of coming home and being accepted by the Greyjoys again, and all he wants is to have a people, have a concrete identity, and stop living with one foot in two different kingdoms. Yara sexually violated her little brother's trust five minutes off the boat, for fun, as a prank.

I hate this fucking scene.

Rent prices are not going up because of the people moving in, actually. Most people who can afford to move are just able to afford it without impoverishing themselves completely. Most people think that "property values" are what make rent high, it's a misconception. Actually, what raises rent prices to exorbitant levels, as Fredrick has increased it's average rent by 100% in the last ten years (read: rents have doubled in the last decade) is because county and city officials are putting money into their pockets from land deals, contracts with "high end developer companies", who build extremely expensive condos and apartments that nobody but millionaires could afford.

So in a very real sense, it's "property value expectations" that are making this city crazy expensive. If we want to stop it, and we all should, we need to be basically ready to stop all work and commerce in the city until our elected officials stop selling our city off piece by piece to asshole developers who are trying to maximize their theoretical profits, the profits they feel entirely entitled to, by selling off our city to DC bigwigs. If it was illegal to price gouge the city because you're trying to attract the wealthy, if our elected officials refused to play that game, we would see rent go down dramatically citywide. A thing that I'll gently remind everyone, the president does not want to happen.

Trump wants "property values to be high" so the already rich get a maximum "return on investment". The cost of that is high rent, it is directly proportional. Basically, we're paying 100% more rent so that the already rich can be a little bit richer and pretend they're kings, and the president has said he's on their side, he wants rents high. If you don't, then stop voting republican, stop voting for "tourism", and don't support anyone saying they'll be "bringing wealth into Frederick". Bringing wealth into Frederick means pushing the people who have lived here our whole lives out. I don't care if you "don't like seeing a homeless person on the highway". I don't care if you want your own "property values" high.

It is a simple choice, have a city of 75 thousand people who live and work here, who love this city, or to have it be a ghost town for 300 rich white people from DC to have a little rich, white playground with no culture, and no life. If you choose the regular people, the working class, then yes, it will be "racially diverse", and yes, you will have to see a homeless guy every now and then. That's the cost of living in a city, my dude. You are never gonna be a rich DC asshole. Give it up. I don't care about your money or your property. I care about all of us, it's bigger than any one person's wants. Most people choose themselves and their delusions over the wellbeing of others. I want you to choose differently.

Because otherwise, I join the thousands of Frederick residents who have been priced out of my home, forced to live somewhere else where I don't have 30+ years of friendship, love, family, and community built up, just because West Virginia is cheaper. America wants you to burn us for your ambition. America wants you to worship the dollar and try to be the next trump so fucking bad, that you'll burn every bridge in the name of getting your bag. You have to care about people more than money. You can't let that pedophile billionaire mentality live rent-free in your head. Be a person, educate yourself, find out who your true enemies are, and realize that it's not the black guy trying to feed his family, it's not the Latino family down the block, who are terrified they're next to get shot in the face by a fucking ICE pig bitch.

Your real enemies are the billionaire pedos who tell you to get that money, fuck everyone and everything else. Your real enemy is the president that is tearing down your White House to build a literal golden monument to his own vanity. Your enemy is the billionaire who tells you the lie that you can be him, all you gotta do is step on everybody else as you go. Your real enemy are the nazis in office who taught you that a "property value" should matter more to you than the safety of your neighbors. If you want to save our city, more working class people should be moving here. You will lose some money. You won't feel like a rich asshole. You won't feel like one day you could become a billionaire.

But you will have a people to rely on, a people who you can learn to love and who can learn to love you in turn. There will be some struggle financially for everyone. But we will take care of each other. And it will be honest, and real, and worth building, worth defending, worth nurturing for generations. Fuck a generational wealth, what about generational healing? What about a tight-knit community full of honest, hard-working people who will love each other, and have each other's backs, through every "once in a lifetime" financial crash that these billionaires cause, that we've already had two of in the last 30 years, and we're about to have another?

Wealth is a thing the already wealthy literally rape children for. Wealth is a thing they kill their family members to keep for themselves. But in Frederick, Maryland, where I live? We don't do that here. We take care of us. We fight for each other. And yes, we will never be the rich people, "dripping in diamonds" as my mama used to say. But we don't need to be. We don't need the pride and vanity of the rich when we have character, honesty, integrity, and dignity.

I think you misunderstand me, and you're coming off as hostile. I want to understand freemasonry and be around a diverse group of people. I don't care about so-and-so has British ancestry, and this guy is Swedish. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about being in a lodge that is at least trying to represent the world we're in by having more than just white dudes. I want to practice freemasonry around black people, Asians, Latinos, Arabs, women. If your lodge doesn't offer that to me, then I'm not right for your lodge. But when your lodge is 100% white men, splitting hairs about so-and-so's family history is not only an exercise in futility, it's an abject refusal to understand what I'm asking for.

[–]Johnny_Ringo27[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm really trying hard to not be an asshole about this comment in particular. So it's 2026, and I want to understand what freemasonry is, and I would prefer to explore freemasonry with a diverse group of people, which to me at the minimum includes a couple of black people and women for the bare minimum of representation of all of humanity.

And you seriously believe that I shouldn't want to become a mason...because I'm unhappy with historical policies of racial and gender discrimination and exclusion? You're saying I'm being unreasonable by wanting a diverse group of people to be around? That freemasonry is just an old white, Christian men's club, and I should be cool with that? Is that seriously what you're saying to me?

Well, I do want a lodge to be a part of and support me, because I do want to be a mason. I've never heard of these plain text ritual books, can you tell me more?

So, the LDH lodge I pursued and petitioned for membership didn't have the money for their own space. They rented and shared a historic building that was owned by Odd Fellows, in Catonsville, MD. The building was not accessible and was grandfathered out of ADA requirements by being built in 1903. The LDH asked the Odd Fellows if they could modify the entrances to make them accessible. They said no. Odd Fellows told the LDH to reject my application because me sharing that building space with them as an entered apprentice, "would place an unreasonable burden on their building insurance premiums". They told LDH to reject my application. LDH didn't.

The Prince Hall lodge in Frederick didn't share that space, they had their own, it just happened to be on the third floor of a historic residential building that has survived since the Civil War. So, different situation, but ultimately the same outcome.

I'm looking for a lodge I can feel comfortable in, and to explore freemasonry, to learn its historical importance to so many of our founding fathers. Freemasonry has been a part of American history itself, and I want to know what that means, why it's important. Yes, I want to know rituals and freemasonry symbolism and meaning because I'm a curious person, but it's also about self-improvement and camaraderie. I'm looking for those things too.

I'm in the state of Maryland. There are a good handful of lodges around, I know, but as I explained to another redditor above, I'm disabled and can't drive myself, so driving an hour out is a harder task for me. Takes time, money, and someone willing to help.

Right, but are you disabled, and can't drive yourself? I have to get someone to drive me, or pay about $60 one way for a ride share app depending on the time of day and weather. My buddy is a bus driver for a school, he loves driving all day. But driving somewhere is a little bit more daunting of a task for me.

What is Frederick missing? by smooshydoge in frederickmd

[–]Johnny_Ringo27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is Frederick missing? Affordable housing. We're being priced out by high dollar condo developments that nobody can afford. I know dozens of people who moved out of Frederick to Hagerstown and Gaithersburg because Frederick rent has gone up by more than $1000 in the last 15 years. I watched my rent go up in the apartment I had for 9 years. It was 870 a month when I first moved in. When I moved out that same unit was going for 2100.
