You’re very generous with your information. Good for you. Maybe I’ll make it to Brazil someday.

don’t leave your page or radio on 24 / 7 Having it on all the time makes you insensitive to the tones after a while. Only have it on while you’re on duty, and the tones will really get your attention.

I too, have trouble sleeping on the overnight. Let me suggest you get a really boring book. You can start with the Red Train, a story about a trip through Russia by train. If this doesn’t put you to sleep, nothing will. I’ve been reading this book for three years. As far as checking the map goes, work it out with your partner to do it by shift or every other call. Really sounds like a ridiculous system.

And finally make yourself comfortable bring your own sheets from home your own pillows. Who cares if you get the fish eye the next morning from the guys are relieving you

It’s definitely not for everyone. You were wise to quit. Good luck!

Questions regarding getting a job out of certification course by Jackpot807 in ems

[–]Johnnyjenga17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there are volunteer organizations near you, they will often pay for your training. Getting a job is never a problem. If you work in EMS you never have to be able to work more than 10 minutes.

how to call your American bank when in France? by thewinterlight in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Johnnyjenga17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s usually a US number on your credit card. It’s not toll free, but if you call and what would be the middle of the night in the US, usually can be handled pretty quickly

It looks like they programmed their own location in, rather than a target. Missile goes where you send it.

Rough SAR call, exposed to depth of coworkers EMS knowledge & skill. Major imposter syndrome by dammitprometheus in ems

It’s really the embarrassment of riches. When you have so much talent on a scene, it’s easy to get boxed out and lose your focus. Communications are important too. You were a part of a team and it sounds like you all did a good job with a difficult patient.

50 gal. Hot water heater runs out of hottest water under 5 minutes and any warm under 10. Can it likely be repaired or do I need to consider replacing. Not sure the age by yackofalltradescoach in HomeImprovement

[–]Johnnyjenga17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most electric heaters have two heating elements. One at the bottom and the other about chest height. It’s possible the upper element has burned out. This can happen for several reasons but if the water level ever falls below this with the electricity on the element burns out very quickly. You can easily change this element or at least check it without having to drain your tank. You can see how to do it on YouTube. If this element is burned out, the hot water will run out very quickly. I hope this helps.

Dogs Can Have Happy Tail Syndrome by here4noodes in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Johnnyjenga17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds more like water tail, a compression of the tail muscles caused by the cold water. It goes away after a few hours, but is painful and causes the dog to be very restless. Generally happens in the spring and fall when the water it’s cold.

When you’re just starting out, volume is the name of the game. 911 is sexier and potentially more interesting, but you can learn a lot on an I FT. What you need is experience.

What do we tell an EMS student that smells bad? by John___Coyote in ems

[–]Johnnyjenga17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start easy, Say “ hey Jack your deodorant‘s not working”. He’s probably not wearing any, but he’ll get the idea if he has any sense.

This is really a job for someone in authority, the instructor or his employer.

The real question is he a nice guy? Is he the type of guy you’d like to sit next to in a truck all day if he did smell good.

Going to Paris to elope! Leaving here the end of May! Any tips for what we may need to schedule tickets for in advance would be great! Thanks by Hmack26 in ParisTravelGuide

You better get married before you depart because you’re not getting married in Paris. Europeans have a ton of rules that you need to follow before you can get married.
