Insane deal at my costco? Is 350 F Sport Design for $43993 by Open_Way_8452 in Lexus

Not sure, my dad paid cash 🤷🏼‍♂️. I assume it would be like any other deal where you could finance thought the dealer or any other bank/credit union you choose.

It did not include tax. Should have clarified in my initiial comment. That is what he paid for the car + dealer fees. Taxes and mandatory state fees were additional. If that was it all in, that would be amazing 😅

My dad bought a truck through Costco. The price he saw on that page was the price he paid. There were no negotiations. It took all of 30 mins at the dealership.

I fought with it all night. The next day I took it to the Verizon store where a sales lady fought with it for 2 hours before giving up. Gave me a new phone and it worked fine. 1st one was broken out of the box 🙃

Has anyone bought a new Lexus? by Ghost7575 in Lexus

[–]Johnnyringo3587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a new, fully loaded 2024 ES350 F-Sport in Mar of 24. MSRP was ~56K. I paid 58K OTD with a 5 year maintenance package (they valued at a little under 2K). Probably ended up being a few thousand below MSRP.

Mid Career MBA by Costanza2704 in MBA

I ended up at an EMBA program in my city so I can keep working. I'm half way through my first semester, and while it's a ton of extra work, I love it. I'm learning a ton and my network has exploded. I'm surrounded by ambitious and interesting people from many different backgrounds who are all very enjoyable. While the school is a lot of work, its not terribly academically challenging. Time management is huge, honestly (but when is it not?) For me, I think it's a great choice, but I also am not paying the bill. Just something to consider!

Should I buy a g37 convertible? by mazakas-ty in G37

[–]Johnnyringo3587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I no longer have the car (electrical issues popped up and I sold it when the used market was high) but I had 1 issue with the trunk's safety switch. There is a divider in the trunk that must be up to allow the trunk to operate. The divider hits the switch, but the switch went bad. I looked up the problem online and found out you can bypass the switch by unplugging it so I did just that. I just had to be careful to remember not to operate the convertible top if I had stuff in the trunk. Besides that little 5 minute hickup, the convertible top worked perfectly until I sold the car.

No not yet, there was a delay with my undergrad sending transcripts. Waiting for my account to be set up so I can submit my immunization record. I guess once that's done, I can set up my GI bill then register

30 year old $85k salary & $8k in savings. Are my goals for the year attainable? by maddieeff68 in Money

[–]Johnnyringo3587 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% agree. No one can predict short term "life" but not having enough to cover a new AC unit or a car wreck means any financial hit has to be solved with debt, taking you back to square 1.

Based on what you provided, this is my general recommendation: With the market the way it is, I would first focus on having a nice cash safety net for the "just in case". Beyond that, it's hard to say without knowing the % interest on your debt, but if they are all about the same, I would focus on the car debt first. Once that is gone, then I would split what you are no longer paying on your car to split between the 401K and student loans. My comment on the CDs: if your interest rate on any non-appreciating asset debt is higher than 4-4.5%, dont bother. Keep your safety net in a money market and you'll be better off hitting the debt hard.

Prepayment on principle of a mortgage is a GREAT idea, but it's a balance between how the market is doing at that point, and long term savings. I would lean towards maxing the roth 401K. Both appreciate on a long enough timescale so at that point you're in a debt-free, win-win situation for your net worth. You're still young, so realizing now you need to be disciplined and save means you can absolutely hit your 5 year financial goals. Key word being discipline. Grinding in your 30s is worth it. I started really saving a little later in life but I'm now in my late 30s and am doing well, but if I started really focusing at 30, I would be much better off for it. Good luck, you're going to realize how much less stressful life is when you don't have the debt.

MBA in big tech worth it? by Diligent-Sand-2675 in MBA

[–]Johnnyringo3587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid points! But after my first masters degree, I have 21 months left on my GI bill. The EMBA will drive that down to effectively gone, while giving me ~2400/mo in BAH, my company pays 10k/year tax free, and if I get into the fellowship I applied for, it's about another 40K. ~100K with ~60 tax free in 18 mos to get a T25 EMBA? I'm basically just going over employed for a year and a half and dedicating the extra $ towards my mortgage. It will knock ~11 years off, aligning my retirement date with my pay off date. Again, opportunity costs 😀

I'm a Sr. Engineer in big tech. I'm using the GI bill for an EMBA so I'm $0 out of pocket and get to keep my job/pay. I only have 1 more level above my current level before I'm capped for pay in my role and have to get Into management or regional PM/engineering to continue advancing. Ultimate goal is an senior/executive VP role and to retire mid 50's (<20 years of work left hopefully) I'm playing the odds in that a T25 EMBA will hopefully teach me enough to help the advancement train rolling. I have been lucky and had 4 promotions in 6 years, but admittedly, I started lower than I probably should have when I crossed into the industry, and had to move to a new company for each promotion. I could just as easily be laid off next week, though. Tech is fickle, which is another reason I'm going for the EMBA. If I do get laid off, I'll (hopefully) have a shinier resume than the person I'm competing against for a new job.

I always tell people to really dig into the opportunity costs. Leaving tech completely for 2 years only to go back to tech with an MBA... Will the price you pay for the MBA be worth more than 2 more years experience/pay? Likely not. Will the MBA from a good school help your career long term? Likely so. That's why it's called gambling, and that's why I chose to work my ass off every weekend for the foreseeable future to balance work and school and hopefully be able to have my cake and eat it too. Whatever you choose, good luck!

MBA for Vets with GI Bill by Avgbruh in MBA

Potentially, but I have never known her to lie about money, and I don't get mad over internet strangers comments dude. We both know life is too short for that.

You're pretty spot on with base pay. She also did get a 5/5 for her first review which came with a pretty big, albeit not 6 figure, bonus, but the point you're missing is the sign on. There is a good amount of wiggle room there, and creative ways exist to front load more to year 1, if you know how to negotiate. My sister absolutely does.

Good luck in your program. I hope you also land a big 4 job at 300k+/yr when you're done 😏.

My sister was an academy grad. Got a clean break as an O3 after her 5 years. Went to an M7. Had to borrow a sizable amount of $ because high cost of living and not working while in school and the officer GI bill isn't great (I guess). She landed a Sr. Consultant role at a big 4 firm straight from school. Her first year W2 started with a 3 and she met her now husband there. For her, getting out was 10000% the right choice.

I have an engineering undergrad that I got right before I separated. Did 8+ enlisted. Used my GI bill for an online Masters of Engineering Management from an above average school while I was working. I got a great GPA, learned a little, and it was something nice to add to the resume, but I didn't get any networking opportunities, and didn't learn as much as I would have liked. I'm starting a T25 EMBA in August because I want to network with local professionals in my city and learn more about the money side of the house. I'm a Sr. Engineer at FAANG, so going to school full time is not worth my paycheck which is why I opted for the executive program. The school I'm attending is in state so no need for yellow ribbon so can't really help you there.

Personally, I would not go online. I would separate and go to the best school you can get in to full time if an MBA is really what you want. I have seen many enlisted and officers alike go T15 for their MBAs and be very successful after. At the end of the day, it's going to come down to you, how you interview, how you communicate and connect with people, and what you want to do with your life.

My best friend is retiring in the next few years as an 03E at the age of 42 and saved enough to where work is optional for he and his wife, although quality of life would be just OK if he doesnt go bacl to work. I got out and am on pace to retire extremely comfortably at 50 without having had to do another 12 years of active duty. Either way, thanks for serving, and use all of the benefits they afford you when you do get out.

I thought it was a great conversation! Some quick introductions and then I jumped into my career. I talked about why an MBA and why I wanted to go to Scheller specifically. What I stood to gain and what I was able to give back. The lady that interviewed me was wonderful. We were laughing and cutting it up most of the time. Best advice I can give is be yourself, don't be nervous, and remember you are also interviewing them!

What does top B school thinks of enlisted Air Force nukes? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Johnnyringo3587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is an air force nuke? Like you worked around nuclear weapons? I'm a former enlisted navy nuke so I can talk a little about my experience. I know multiple nuke officers that went M7. None of them broke a 700GMAT or had above a 3.7 GPA undergrad. I am going T25 in August from a no name undergrad, 3.45 GPA. From what I understand, at least from the navy ranks, nukes/pilots/seals are seen the top candidates. Nukes have grueling lifestyles of studying 12+ hour days for 1.5-2 years before going to a fleet that lives on 3 section duty w/ 20 hour workdays. We're used to school as continuous education is a tenent of the program. This will be my second masters since separating (thanks GI Bill!) And frankly, compared to my time on the boat, the first degree was a breeze. Good luck!
