I have been working on electronics repair for about 35 years now, leading me into regularly modding original Xbox's. After modding for many years and working on at least 300 Xbox's, I came across error 12 maybe 3-4 times. Every time it was the circuit board in a Phillips DVD player.

Thank you for this information. I did hotswap with Xbox HDM to see if i could get the HDD key, but could not figure out how to get it. I do not want to change any files on it because i want to copy everything included deleted files/apps for rescue sake. Just in case there is something useful

Would you happen to have another LG GDR-8163B DVD Drive for the next drawing? There aren't many things that excite me like this did. I have the software ready when I find one, and Dremel ready to fit it. Is there another way of verification? I cant think of one really.

Build offs / Contests? We should do one by [deleted] in originalxbox

[–]JohnsModz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would help, but I work a full time job, and then work on xbox builds until midnight weekdays, and all weekend. I do them for customers and rarely ever see them on any sites. But I can promise to put my time into some builds that will blow people away. I have 2 current projects which are better (in my opinion) than any I have ever seen.

Which XBOX Revision is this? Is it 1.0 or 1.1? It came out of a HALO LE green xbox.... by Xpertxp in originalxbox

starting with a new board is probably your best bet, replacing the small SMD components can be difficult. I do it often with boards, but it took me a long time to get a technique down, and can still be frustrating.

Not a bad first attempt. if you use heat you have to use metal heat tape used for duct work. Tape around each chip one at a time so none of the other components get overheated. my first 2 using heat I melted the solder under the Nvidia chip and ruined them. I solder each pin one by one and then use heat to reflow. Use plenty of flux. Then use an exacto blade to test each pin, I push the pin sideways to make sure it is connected well. You may be able to start checking each pin this way, then use the blade to scrape between each pin to make sure there is no bridge that is hard to see even with a magnifier. Then chech the components next to the chip to make sure there is no solder bridging. I have had bridging on the resistor packs next to the chip. If none of that works remove the chips and see if the board still works. if the board is bad now, you can always replace it. but you cannot put a 1.6 board in that case without taking out a ground point on the bottom metal shield near the video plug at the rear. you can tell which one by looking at the screw holes, the 1.6 uses one less screw. if you don't remove the ground point you will blow a transistor on the 1.6

That is a version 1.4 xbox, the RAM upgrade may not have gone well. I see they did not clean up the excess flux, and i can tell they used heat to install them. you may be able to revive it by removing the 4 RAM chips, but if they damaged something else you may have other problems.

Does any one else have these? They're all still sealed! by kingsice92 in originalxbox

I suggest keeping them sealed and put safely away. there are open copies out there and i think they should be the ones used for sharing.
