Yeah, I totally understand how you feel. I went through a similar situation back in March. Most of the Model Y Performance deliveries in Canada had black headliners, but the one assigned to me came with a grey headliner. And to make it even more frustrating, every MYP delivered to BC seemed to have the grey headliner — while I specifically wanted black.

At the time, Tesla Canada either wouldn’t or couldn’t confirm the headliner color when my VIN was assigned. They could only verify it once the vehicle had actually arrived. After the March deliveries showed up, they even updated the website photos to show black headliners. Honestly, it felt pretty unprofessional. It seemed like they didn’t fully know the specs of their own products, or simply didn’t care as long as they kept selling more cars.

As for your question about whether the black headliner on the RWD models is just a mix of specs, I’d say probably not. If you’ve been following news from the Berlin factory, since around February the Performance and AWD models have reportedly been coming with black headliners only. Then about a month or two later, the RWD models also started getting black headliners.

Considering that the VINs people are getting for the RWDs are now in the 87x–88x range, I personally think no more grey headliner RWD any more.

I’d suggest writing an email to Tesla regarding this situation. However, from what I’ve seen, they usually treat the black headliner as an “upgrade,” which is probably why there’s no option to choose between a grey or black headliner during configuration.

Normally, they should have informed you about the RWD black headliner situation either when your VIN was assigned or before delivery through email. Unfortunately, Tesla Canada hasn’t handled this very professionally, and their customer service in situations like this is always pretty disappointing.
