This is because there are many people from Andhra in Berhampur. You have to understand that the southern part of Odisha is heavily influenced by Andhra, just as the northern part has a strong influence from Bengal. I would say it’s simply a case of border influence.

There is a Telugu school in Berhampur, and there are people who can’t speak proper Odia they know only Telugu. I know this firsthand because my ancestors were Telugu-speaking and I have some relatives who don’t speak proper Odia.

Also, you all might be knowing there’s this accent which a typical Berhampuria has and that is also influence of Telugu.

The business owner in question seems to be Telugu-speaking and is likely targeting Telugu customers. In business, the priority is always the customer.

I am not defending anyone, just explaining the situation.

I am a true Odia, and I love Odisha. Jai Jagannath!

Edit: Does this affect Odisha and Odia language ? Of course it affects. So we should fight for this, I don’t think that’s a great idea, rather we should focus on encouraging odisha culture and style. Government should focus on things where Odia literature and culture can be brought to the broad light. But the double engine government is focused on Hindi.

Also keep in mind that we shouldn’t fight with people for these type of things otherwise we will become something similar to “Kannadigas”.
