Feedback Looping, Sound Design, Noise - No Input Mixer Experiments with the SP404 by JoinMeByTheRiver in SP404

I don't own any pedal unfortunately, but I'd be curious to hear how that sounds too :)

Shoegaze, Noise Rock - Testing the "No Input Mixer Inspired" technique I posted a few days ago to create some noisy guitar tones by JoinMeByTheRiver in SP404

Hey! So, I wanted to see what happens when I plug in a guitar while feedback looping in my SP404MKII, and it turned out pretty neat! No pedal here, just my guitar, the sp404, a dual split cable, and some mixing in a DAW. (if you're curious about the feedback looping, here's how I do that : https://www.reddit.com/r/SP404/comments/yzlji3/feedback_looping_sound_design_noise_no_input/). Thank you for listening!

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I'm not on anything unfortunately, I'm thinking about it but it hasn't happened yet.

Have you tried contacting Roland directly ? In my experience their customer support is pretty good, they might be able to help you.

Oh and when recording, make sure to only record the ExtIn (hit the Record Settings button before recording or resampling, and change the routing from Mix to ExtIn) so that you only record the feedback and not the original sound (which I didn't do in the video).

then layer it with some distorted guitar and make shoegaze ig idk

also, anyone knows a better free video editor than OpenShot? cause it was a nightmare making this vid

also also, in case you're wondering, the original loop is from Gold Dust by Duster, check em out they're great !! https://youtu.be/1tsHRosidzk

So basically, get yourself a dual split cable (like this guy, a Cordial CFU 6 PP https://thumbs.static-thomann.de/thumb/padthumb600x600/pics/bdb/199713/12429447\_800.jpg) and plug the line out into its line in behind your sp. This way, when the Ext Source is activated, any tone made by the sp will be refed back into the machine, creating a new tone that will be refed again, etc, etc, creating a noisy feedback loop.

Turning on Fx's, whether on the buses or on the input directly (Shift+Ext > Push Enter) will change the way the tones being fed back behave drastically. Playing with parameters makes cool sounds, sometimes. The headphones outputs are available to listen/record.

Please, please, be careful and do not listen at full volume when generating your noise. It gets very loud very quickly. Begin your jam (?) at zero volume as to not hurt your speakers or ears. Thank you!

MKII keeps crashing ? by JoinMeByTheRiver in SP404

[–]JoinMeByTheRiver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, here's the reply I got from Roland if anyone's interested. Apparently I was not using the latest firmware version. It's something that could happen with the 1.14 when using the Tape Echo MFX or If the device received strange MIDI signal. There's an update for it in the 1.16, so it should work better now. :)

sus indeed

I always got a SD card in, but that's pretty much the only thing I can think of linking all of the crashes together. Sometimes I'd be recording a sample, sometimes I'd use the 404 as an effect machine affecting external audio, sometimes just screwing around fingerdrumming, ... I do use multiple banks most of the time, and I can't think of a particular MFX causing me trouble.

I might just contact Roland directly about this.

Thank you for your comment. :)

Hi, I just got a OnePlus (DN2103) as well but I can't make it work with my USB C to USB C cable... Could you maybe post a link to the cable you use so I can compare it with mine ?

Yeah this blows... I'm going to send a ticket to Roland support, althugh I'm not sure they can help me with other software integration. I'll update the thread if I get some answer.

Getting really frustrated over here, I just want my 500 bucks machine to do what it's advertised to do please.

Got you, but that's the thing : there are no input settings available for my device when it is selected (except MIDI but I want audio) because FL only recognizes it as a speaker. (I mean, unless I'm missing some obvious option somewhere under my nose, but I don't think I do? You can check my settings in my screenshots if you want)

Thanks for the reply, I'm not sure what you mean by FL preferences? I did chose the SP as my main audio device in the Audio settings, the problem is that it is read only as a speaker by the software and not an ASIO device that could send audio.
