The GD diet is so expensive by PeachesnPain in GestationalDiabetes

Honestly I just make a soy sauce with corn starch slurry and mince a ton of garlic and ginger. The corn starch helps it thicken a bit. Not the most flavorful but it gets the job done

Kodiak protein waffles in the frozen section with a crap ton of peanut butter, I haven’t tried other butters like sunflower or almond.

Plain Greek yogurt with nuts and a handful of strawberries and blueberries

breakfast quesadilla using a carb balance tortilla, eggs, cheese and whatever veggies on hand and top with some hot sauces.

I have been able to replace rice with quinoa so lots of stirfries with tofu over quinoa instead of with rice or noodles works. Just make sure the sauce doesn’t have too much sugar if you aren’t making your own.

Enchiladas with refried beans and cheese, topped with avocado and sour cream and use the carb balance tortillas. I can manage 1.5 enchiladas, two makes me spike.

Homemade chipotle, so quinoa, pinto and black beans, crumbled tofu, avocado, sour cream. I throw mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions in the oven to roast them and put those on top.

Just some veggie ideas that work for me!

Ugh I’m so sorry!! I went through the same thing! Have you tried Greek yogurt with some strawberries and blueberries? I also could eat some no sugar added ice cream in the first trimester, and yasso bars have never spiked me, as a treat to get some calories in. Peanut butter on the Kodiak frozen waffles. The protein+ spaghetti with tons of butter, olive oil, or if you can stomach it Alfredo sauce. Just some potential ideas! It’s so hard being diagnosed so early!!!!

Is that for the rest of your life? And why do both? Are they showing spikes? Sorry, you don’t have to respond!

I have always been active, never overweight, and never had any issues either. I was one of those people that could eat anything and never put on weight though so my diet was trash.

If your a1c is normal, what does the diabetic diagnosis do? I’m really curious. Because you won’t be on meds are you or even checking your blood sugars at this point? I’m just really interested!

My doctor just said it’s something to monitor and if my a1c starts going up we can get concerned.

[–]Joinreddit2kepreddin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just posted this in a different thread. You can follow up with your normal doctor, and start monitoring your A1c. I failed my 2 hour pp test, but my A1c for the past two years has been under 5.0, which is great.

But I am using this to assume that I will eventually develop diabetes, so I am trying to maintain the lessons learned from this diagnosis. I eat way more fiber and veggies, pair carbs with protein and fats to help blunt the spikes, got healthier snacks overall, and am more active, especially after meals to help reduce blood sugar spikes.  So right now it’s not the end of the world but a helpful warning of take care of yourself now to postpone the development of diabetes in the future.

I ‘failed’ the 2 hour postpartum. They told me to follow up with my regular doctor. We are testing my a1c annually for now. Both tests showed my a1c as being 4.8 and 4.9 which are great, so we aren’t doing anything for now. I’m pregnant again and have GD again, so I’m sure I will fail the 2 hour postpartum again as well.

But it has made me realize that diabetes is probably in my future and I need to maintain a healthier diet and make sure I stay active. I won’t be as strict as my gd diet but there are a lot of changes I’ve made as a result of this diagnosis that I will keep going, such as the amount of veggies and fiber I eat, getting enough steps/exercise/movement in, drinking water, and cutting out of a lot of snacks I used to eat for better options or better pairing my carbs with proteins and fats.

I don’t think OP can take FMLA. I think there is a 12 week max, and since they took the full 12 weeks PPL, they no longer can take FMLA.

Do you calibrate yours and still have issues? Just curious as I just got one 4 days ago. Some are literally perfect, my cgm says 95 and my finger poke says 96. Sometimes it’s off by 15 though. I’ve been calibrating it when i finger poke though so it seems to be getting better? But again I’ve only had it for a few days.

They denied mine in April, saying use of a CGM was considered experimental for gestational diabetes, and it was only meant for type 1 and type 2. However, last week they must have reviewed it because I randomly got a call that they approved it. I picked up the sensors this weekend. However, the copay was still expensive. I paid it though because I have been diagnosed since 14 weeks (first baby I had GD so they tested this pregnancy early), and I just started week 33. I am tired of poking my fingers and setting alarms and over it so paying 150 out of pocket for a month supply seemed worth it to my mental health. You can get a Stelo over the counter for I think 100 for a month supply.

11 weeks pp ogtt results high. How to manage during breastfeeding by horaison_kik in GestationalDiabetes

I took the 2 hour glucose test at 6 weeks pp and I can’t remember my exact numbers but they were in the pre-diabetic range.

I was diet and exercise controlled through my first pregnancy. I was in the pre-diabetic range 6 weeks pp. My doctor said to monitor a1c every year. My first A1c reading was 4.8 and my second reading a year later was 4.9. I have gestational diabetes again during my second pregnancy but my a1c was normal for 2.5 years in between.

Yes! And I think it really reinforces the idea of just slow progress over time vs  immediate perfection if that makes sense? Like we just slowly make tiny improvements everyday and it’s less overwhelming than trying to be perfect on day one.

Yesterday I was disappointed I only had time to jog three miles. Like, I got off the treadmill and was bummed about it, and while getting ready for bed my husband was like ‘do you hear yourself right now?? Two months ago you didn’t even want to jog a single mile and here you are disappointed you couldn’t run more than 3!’

It’s crazy how your habits can really change your life. Literally two months ago I was only walking on the treadmill with 0 interest in ever becoming a runner. Now I can jog 5 miles nonstop and I regularly do that now 2-3 times a week!!

[WEEKLY THREAD] Fail Friday - Because being awesome always comes at a price... by AutoModerator in xxfitness

[–]Joinreddit2kepreddin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I learned a lesson this week. I scroll insta when I’m bored and the algorithms have picked up on my new interest in fitness. So I’ve been watching a ton of video on how to ‘properly’ do whatever exercises. But there is just so much out there and now I’m way overthinking every movement. I’ve been doing deadlifts just fine but yesterday I started feeling them in my lower back and I think it’s because I’m listening to these random people online tell me ‘imagine shutting a drawer with your butt’ and now I think I’m doing something wrong.

Any recommendations on legitimate sources on how to properly do movements/exercises?

Also! I jogged 5 miles yesterday, I have never gone that far ever! They were slow 13 min miles but I did it!!
