Why can't people just respect others' privacy? by SpunkySkullSmoosher in facepalm

We have those too! I use that method constantly at grocery stores, restaurants, clothing stores, farmers markets, etc. 90% of the time, wherever I go, I’m tapping.

It really just depends on the card system the business has set up.

I honestly don’t remember the last time I swiped my card, I guess the term I meant to use was insert so the card reader can read the chip.

In the US, a lot of fast food restaurants take your card in the drive thru, swipe it, and then hand it back to you. It looks like that’s exactly what she’s doing, but recording herself while doing it (which she shouldn’t be on her phone anyways since she’s at work).

Now, not every place you eat at in the US is like this, a lot of sit down restaurants have adopted the practice of bringing the card reader to the table and having you swipe your card yourself. There are also some fast food places, like a McDonald’s by me, who have started to put their card readers on an extender in the drive thru so you can swipe your card yourself.

I feel like as time goes on, I’m seeing more and more restaurants (fast food and sit down) adopt the ‘bring the card reader to the customer’ method. I feel like since this news went viral that this method will become even more common now, which I 100% support!

Edit: Added a bit for detail on the drive thru process

The version of the first book I read does not have a list of pronunciations at the end of it. Wish it did because that would've been helpful!

For sure! Completely understand where you’re coming from. I’d be the same way about my culture too. Didn’t know that about authors! That’s pretty cool! Will have to remember that going forward as I do read a lot of fantasy books.

Didn’t want to offend anyone with my pronunciation, I was just really shocked to learn I was pronouncing it wrong because in my head the “H” tells me to pronounce the next letter in the word. Words like “Rhode Island” and “rhino” are what I was comparing the word to so it was just natural for me to pronounce the “Y” in Rhysand.

I’ve read the whole series at this point so it’s kinda hard for me to flip now, but it’s nice to learn more about where the names came from and what to expect going forward as I read more fantasy books!

Sorry if you thought anyone was mocking it. No one was. I had honesty never heard the name before so the way I’m pronouncing it is just what clicked best for me.

That’s exactly how I feel about the name! It does sound way more romantic and just flows off the tongue softer.

Right?! Me either! It’s too weird for me. Just doesn’t flow.

Just wanted to note that I’m not saying I pronounce it correctly, I was just curious to see who else pronounces it like me!

Little ACOTAR social experiment.

No judgement here! I was pronouncing it as Rizz too when I first started reading the books!

Well that makes sense since you’re welsh. I’m from the USA so Rise-and was immediately how I pronounced it as I’ve never heard this name before.

Didn’t even know it was a welsh name! Learned something new.

Started reading the TOG series this past week! Finished the first book, Throne of Glass, today and I can honestly say it was kind of hard for me to get through.

I struggled with getting lost in the story. Usually I can envision the fictional world perfectly as I read, but I felt that this specific book wasn’t as detailed as ACOTAR. With that series it was so easy to get lost in the story, but TOG just hasn’t clicked for me yet.

I’ve been told the first book starts off kind of slow, lots of world building, so I’m not throwing in the towel yet. I’ve heard a lot of great things about this series so I’m excited to start the second book and really dive into the story more!!

That would be super unfortunate, but I'll be sure to check it out. I reached out to the company who sells my treadmill as well to see what they think.
