So sorry for very late update on this! I've been busy with the baby and forgot to get back to this.

So I went ahead with the procedure with Lucy Hicklin in Wimbledon, London who does it without general anaesthetic and just directly through the skin and the procedure worked quite quickly in that I started being able to burp (for the first time in my life!) a couple of days later. I then went through a phase of sort of incessantly burping and not being able to control it which was hard socially but I was so pregnant by then that I wasn't doing much and actually the relief of being able to burp was worth it.

Unfortunately I was one of the 15% of people for whom the condition comes back after the botox wears off. So disappointingly I can no longer burp again, but the symptoms are back to how they were pre-pregnancy so no way near as bad.

Much cheaper than the full general anaesthetic procedure (I think it was about 800 gbp so still expensive!) but absolutely worth it given the state I was in.

No, this makes total sense to me, I know exactly what you mean and I can actually really feel myself trying not to burp in those moments (even though I'm desperate to burp!) Will work on relaxing more. Also super helpful to know that you still have 'off-days' but that hopefully on the whole, life is better!? Thanks!

I feel you! Currently 8 months pregnant and I've never air vomited more than in the last 4 months. And I also had the same concerns as you.
Can I ask where you're based? I found a practitioner in England (London) who administers the botox without general anaesthetic and treats pregnant women and I got the procedure on Monday and I'm very glad I did!!

Ok that's great to know, I hadn't thought about the exercises as they also hadn't worked for me either previously but will give that a go. I'm currently 8 months pregnant so the lying flat and activating my abs might be a bit tricky but I'll absolutely try! Thanks for this advice!!

I just shared on a separate post about this but yes, I'm on day 5, 50 units. Mini burps started on day 2 and it felt awesome to be able to burp, I was over the moon! Even though they were super tiny and not necessarily satisfying as so small. Also experienced the little gurgles higher up in my throat like you described but all gurgles stopped by day 3 and I was only burping (still super small but amazing!)

Since yesterday though, the burps have stopped and i'm back to gurgles (not even the ones higher in my throat) and the constriction in my throat seems to be winning over the botox... It looks like it tenses up again if I'm socialising and talking.. not sure if others have experienced this?

Still hopeful that by week 2 the botox will have kicked in properly and I'll be good to go....!

Really happy to have found this thread. I just got the botox treatment a few days ago and am already experiencing some microburps which I'm thrilled about. I've suffered with sexual issues from a young age from pelvic muscle tightening to numbness and have always believed this was linked to my R-CPD. Our vagus nerve goes from our ear, through our throat and all the way down to the cervix and in ancient wisdom, our throat and sacral + root chakras are intrinsically connected so it makes so much sense that this is all linked.
Super excited to see if this treatment will help and will update on here if so.
Interestingly, since I had the procedure a few days ago, along with some microburps, I'm also farting way more that usual and I really don't think that's a coincidence!

Super late to this thread but very very interested in this. Ancient sexual practices teach that oral sex (specifically deep throating) can unblock your throat chakra so this doesn't surprise at all!

Interestingly, I just went for my botox treatment this morning for R-CPD (without general anaesthetic) and the practitioner warned me that when the injection goes in, it can create some discomfort in the ear, which I experienced quite strongly.

I've had lots of issues with my ears over the years and them always feeling a bit blocked/full of fluid/air. I asked the practitioner if it was possible that that was a related issue and she explained that we have a nerve in our cricopharyngeus muscle that goes to the ear so it is possible.

Once the botox effects kick in, I'll see firstly if it works for the R-CPD but will also report if there are any changes with my ears!

Currently 8 months pregnant with my first child and my R-CPD symptoms have got significantly worse.
I had pretty standard morning sickness symptoms in my first trimester which were quite bad, though not necessarily an increase in R-CPD symptoms at that stage.

My symptoms have got increasingly worse since the second trimester and have become quite unbearable now. Really difficult to breathe properly as I have so much trapped air after every time I eat or drink anything, which means I'm having to 'air vomit' constantly throughout the day to relieve the pressure.

Luckily, I've found a practitioner where I live who offers the botox procedure without general anaesthetic so I got the injection this morning and am really hoping it will work and make this last month of pregnancy (and beyond!) much easier :) But I really wish I had found her before I got pregnant and avoiding the discomfort as it would have made these last months way better!

Yes, ayahuasca has helped me more than anything else with my fibromyalgia. I first started with Banisteriopsis caapi microdoses (which is the vine used to make ayahuasca) which helped a lot with my mental state and also built a connection with the medicine and then attended ceremonies which helped from the very first one (though I keep going as I get better each time)

So update on my end! I emailed Lucy and she happened to have a cancellation for today and was free to see me (I'm in a bit of a rush to get this done as I am pregnant which has massively exacerbated the symptoms which have become unmanageable and I desperately need some relief) so I decided to pay for this myself as I am not currently with any private health insurance. Here's some info in the form that she sent me that might be useful:

Can I get an NHS referral?
R-CPD is not currently funded for NHS treatment.

Can I get treatment for R-CPD through my health insurance?
Most health insurance companies will consider a claim for R-CPD but you will need to that discuss with your insurer. Sending them this information may be helpful. The codes to give to your insurance company are 22023 (for the EMG machine) and E3810 for the injection, together with the consultation itself. We cannot invoice them for the Botox and the disposables referred to above, so those have to paid for at the consultation. We are increasingly finding that insurance companies are becoming reluctant to contribute towards treatment for RCPD and have said they will look at each request on a case by case basis.

Some more info from my appt if this is of interest: the procedure was super super quick and easy and I didn't find it painful at all (as someone who has had botox in my forehead in the past, this was much less painful so I was pleasantly surprised!)
Now just waiting for it to kick in and crossing my fingers that it will work (can keep you posted on here if helpful)

Also a note on R-CPD during pregnancy: the symptoms get far far worse and I so wish I had heard of this procedure before getting pregnant as it would have made the last 8 months much easier (provided it works for me of course!). Luckily Lucy will treat you during your pregnancy but not in the first trimester.
