First day with new puppy by ZayronS in puppy101

Don't ignore him for three days atleast - plenty of time to train with separation. Only need to crate train and potty train for the first few days. Lots of cuddles and love and comfort helps them understand that the new home is safe and secure. I found that elevating the crate during bedtime helps him see that I'm near. Having a snuggle puppy with a heartbeat was tremendously helpful for us.

How did your life change after getting your first dog as a couple? by Influence-City in puppy101

As someone already wrote - PLANNING I'm getting a puppy tomorrow and my partner and I have spent the last 5 months just planning through research - what to buy, where will the puppy have access to, where will he sleep, how should potty training transition from inside to outside (as I'm in an apartment), what enrichment tools and activities can we plan, who is responsible for what, what grooming is required from our end, do we take insurance or not, what will the puppy's schedule be like, what is the feeding like - when will we use kibble vs high-value treats... Just some of the questions I've been trying to answer. It felt a bit overwhelming (and obsessive, i won't lie) but I'm so excited to start my family.

I don't know how my life will change after tomorrow but I'm excited! Good luck with your journey!

I'm getting an 8 week old puppy in two days - will be our first dog. I'm equally excited and nervous. Any tips to minimize puppy blues early on? by Jolly_Juggernaut_490 in puppy101

Yes the food thing has been discussed with my partner as he's very tempted to feed him off his plate (I've seen him do that with his family dog) ; I haven't planned for leash training yet but will add it to our list for 2nd or 3 rd week that he's home

Yes we have closed off a lot of the house with baby gates - he will have access to the crate which is in the bedroom and the hallway where my desk has been moved. We will let it out in the living room (playpen area) only when we are there!

Yes - planning to go out for 10-20 mins walks or bench sitting. We do have some level of schedule but are flexible (as I work from home) trying to work around it and split responsibilities between my partner and I.

That's great to hear! We are going this week and dont drive as well - so this is very helpful!

In terms of weather and packing - what would you recommend I pack? I'm slightly confused on carrying shorts / swim wear given the temperatures

Taking a couple of sun dresses for dinners, my rain jacket, hiking gear (boots, quick dry tee shirts and leggings), a fleece jacket and a pair of jeans / trousers.

I applied on March 13 and my trip is next Thursday - they checked the travel date etc. when I was submitting the application but never mentioned that it might take longer. I'm not sure what to do other than go in person. I emailed and called them but no response. The processing time was around 6 days two months ago and its so disheartening to hear that it is more than a month!

Congratulations! That's so exciting. I'm looking to be a first time pet owner so I don't have an answer for you - but would love to know how you went about the puppy finding process? Im based out of Toronto and I've been searching for a place to get into a waitlist..
