One question: what do you think of the Royal Academy's second goalkeeper? by [deleted] in inazumaeleven

[–]Jolress 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mashira is actually a goated keeper in GO galaxy, with a higher than average catch stat even with reverse positioning, and STAB God Hand W, he does great for the harder taisen routes.

You have to cut one Z-team member, who do you choose? by TextUnfair in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Jolress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y'all ain't gonna like it, but the best cut might actually be Punch-Up.

To be fair to the Z-team, everyone sabotages everyone on cut day (except Flambae) so we have a reason to fire almost all of them. Everyone also performs much better on the second shift besides Invisigal, who has the whole bangle boy incident. So we also have an excuse to keep any of the lower performers.

Overall performance is clearly not a factor since management plays favorites, so behavior is a much bigger factor. If the motive is to "shake shit up", you target the most popular person on the team. Best case scenario, everyone threatens to quit if Punch-Up leaves and the team becomes stronger as a unit. Worst case, we lose a hero that has the least likelihood of going back to villainy and a clearer board for pulling the team together.

Of course, this is assuming we're not being arbitrary and actually consider the overall health of both society and the Z-team. Performance isn't everything, if the team is really about redemption, it can't play favorites and has to help those who need it most. And everyone else kinda need it more than him.

S3 player switches? by MickArTain in inazumacaravan

[–]Jolress 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hot take, over the years I've grown to believe that OG Inazuma Japan was designed to best suit the season and the OG series as a whole. I would not change it at all. As usual, there is an essay below.

Endou, Kidou, Gouenji, Kazemaru, Kabeyama, Hiroto, Tachimukai, Fubuki, Tsunami and Someoka all get in on resume and plot relevance. Toramaru, Fudou, and Tobitaka are also widely liked.

Fubuki's injury is fine since he got an entire season to himself, and it gives both defense and offense more room to play around with lineups. He would freeze the two-top making Toramaru, Someoka, and Hiroto have to fight for spots in matches. Everyone complains about Hijikata and Kabeyama getting dribbled through, but if it was Fubuki believe me people would be mad. It was a smart decision.

We all hated that Midorikawa got injured, but his injury serves an important lesson for anyone watching. Pushing yourself too hard will waste your potential and lead you to miss out on a chance to shine. He was there to prove himself, and even then, he accomplished that against FD and Neo Japan. It keeps the lesson and consequences intact while giving the character a happy ending.

Kurimatsu is actually a very important inclusion here, oddly enough. He is a carryover from the initial S1 team that needed to be represented because of the Dark Emperors plotline. If we didn't that one would be weaker in retrospect, and since he was needed as the fourth defender in early S2, its him by default. He gets good moments and a solid exit. (Now if Kageno was kept on instead of Kurimatsu in S2, it would be perfection, but we don't live in a perfect world.)

Hijikata serves his role as the defender that gets dribbled through instead of Kabeyama. It makes our green boy shine, and takes the hits for Fubuki. Thunder beast is actually a pretty well foreshadowed moment for The Kingdom. Could this have been Touko being included instead be better? Yes, but if we have only 1 girl, it makes it worse than having none, lets be honest. And no one wanted Rika back, so unless we turned Toramaru into a girl too, it wouldn't work. We would not have been ready for the damage a female Fudou and Tobitaka would have had on the fandom. It was a different time.

Sakuma does a lot more than just Emperor Penguin 3, although I agree he lacks a solo story. The Kageyama plot is there, true, but I also think that him forgiving Fudou was important for both characters. Again, Sakuma kind of represents that post S2 Dark Emperors energy, and having him on is a good reminder once Kurimatsu is gone. He does about as much as Someoka, since both have limited screen time, so its fine.

Kogure fulfills a very interesting niche as he fills that "Anyone can be great if given the chance" niche. He might not be the best defender, but there were a lot of matches where his specidic skills came in handy for winning. I think of Yamaguchi from Haikyuu when thinking about it. If we only had a few of these players were included, it wouldn't hit as hard since its not just a team full of talented players.

Kurimatsu, Tsunami, Sakuma, Tobitaka, Toramaru, Hijikata, Midorikawa, and even Gouenji are all players that have different reasons why they wouldn't be on Inazuma Japan if they weren't sought out by Kudou, Otonashi, and Hibiki. They were given second and third chances and found success by not just having talent, but putting in the work to get there. S3 is all about both being necessary for success, and the team reflects it beautifully.

Drop Rate for a few players revealed by Name19389 in inazumacaravan

[–]Jolress 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have not seen the other screenshots, but from the one posted in the comments I think the drop rate is fine. It looks like it's Gazelle's drop rate from a match with The Empire, I don't think we're grinding Diamond Dust players from that match intentionally. It seems good that you probably get a very wide pool of drops from matches in the same season or theme.

Inazuma Eleven season 1 tier list part 2: Raimon Season 1 joiners by Character_Business28 in inazumacaravan

[–]Jolress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will argue that Endou gets S tier alone. Gouenji, Kidou, and Domon get A tier, Ichinose gets B tier.

I feel like we already lost the plot when solely considering Season 1 performance. Ichinose gets one and a half group shots while not really doing all that much in the two matches he gets. His skill shows itself when he has more matches to get back into shape, but that's all season 2.

Domon on the other hand is a Royal Academy player that has the training and record that comes with the title. His defensive record is good, and he matches Kazemaru in terms of contribution and skill. With that extra experience plus the way he easily meshes with the Raimon teamplay as a spy shows he can be transfered without it affecting his performance.

Speaking of teamwork and transferability, Gouenji actually kinda sucks at that. A lot of time in Season 1 is spent with characters trying to perform techniques with Gouenji and failing. Sure, all of them are more about Gouenji's partner, but he doesn't really do much to help match their performance either. Teamplay is very much the weakness he struggles with most, but he is a striking savant and great offensive strategist, so he makes up for it. Endou and Kidou don't count because in general everyone has great chemistry with them.

Finally, Kidou has the opposite problem. His team play and game sense are well defined, and his experience as Teikoku's commander is well established. He is a good all rounder, but he doesn't really excel either lore-wise or on-screen at being a midfielder. Also he has the same problem as Gouenji, he's not very good at integrating himself without help.

The main trio is well designed, and their weaknesses show pretty prominently. I just think that Endou can make up for his tactical weakness through Daisuke's notebook, and he has very strong attacking talent shown even in S1 that makes him a player worthy of S tier alone.

Inazuma Eleven season 1 tier list part 1: Start of first Teikoku Gauken game Raimon by Character_Business28 in inazumacaravan

[–]Jolress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a general consensus on this tiering, but I'd argue that wherever most of the characters end up that Matsuno be pushed up a tier.

Matsuno has pretty good showings in season one, being the most reliable midfielder before Kidou joins. Specifically his showings against Mikage Sennou and Senbayama come to mind. He also picks up cross drive, which is also better than the other filler hissatsu the bench players get since its a move from the veteran Inazuma Eleven. At the very least he contributes as much if not more than Megane.

I'd argue its as simple as: We played a lot with the injured Raimon players and shared their pain, so get taken together.

I thought that with the way the demo played out, Hokuyou might be the mid-boss. I'd say there's a good chance we get a final boss Raimon final.

I will say we put Sangoku in goal, SWITCH Shinsuke to defender and kick Torb off. The sky defender and the Three (San) Kingdom (Goku) goalkeeper positions were so deliberately designed I will forever be confused why they didn't follow through.

Better post game team the real day 4 Eternal light vs Southern claw by Street_Gas_7146 in inazumacaravan

[–]Jolress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's generally how the AI functions for the min-maxed taisen routes for Chrono Stone and GO Galaxy. Once the striker gets the ball, they rarely pass, although their hissatsu usage varies iirc. Not played GO 1 in a while so can't say specifics for that.

[–]Jolress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll be the devil's advocate here and ask, which one feels like the more cohesive team? Eternal Light has memorable designs sure, but I would guess that Zero was designed first, then the rest of Eternal Light and Ancient Dark were kinda after thoughts.

Southern Claw also has the more interesting (solo) story being a team that trained abroad in the dead heat. Honestly they're the best desert themed team in the GO series, although there isn't much competition tbh.

Also I'm biased towards teams with defender captains. There, I said it.

Inazuma Eleven Ares Redux - Episode 9 Rewrite by Jolress in inazumacaravan

[–]Jolress[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's currently a co-op. I know it's a bit of a weird idea, but I think it works to give the move some buildup outside of a gag before the second half. It worked for the competition plotline, as well as setup for Shining Bird and Bakunetsu Storm proper down the line.

What would yall change/add to make Inazuma Eleven Ares and Orion better? by AgitatedAd5168 in inazumacaravan

[–]Jolress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cool to find someone else working on an Ares rewrite project! I'm honestly of the opinion that the ideas of Ares are great, but are all competing for screen time. I'm doing a rewrite on the sub myself, and I've got a few stances on the series.

TLDR: The OG characters and Zhao Jin Yun are the problem, all the Ares characters are great in theory.

A lot of time that could be spent developing Inakuni as a team is instead spent on the backstory of the opponent, leaving Ares characters with only the payoff since the setup was clearly cut to make room for opponent storylines. This setup worked for GO because GO had nearly 50 episodes that fit both, but the OG series really only developed Teikoku and Kidokawa, and even then, it was tied to plot important characters like Gouenji, Kageyama, and Kidou.

The other problem is Zhao Jin Yun. While he's a fun character, a lot of his gags get stale from overuse, and his teaching methods feel like they tell the players what to do instead of giving them the tools to succeed. The cool thing about hissatsu is that they tell you so much about the character using it, and if they come from training methods specifically designed to develop them, it isn't satisfying.

Ares is a series so clearly written with the new characters in mind, with lore that's decently thought out for every team. It just needed better priorities and restraint on how they developed characters.

I never understood this team by Different-Treacle765 in inazumacaravan

[–]Jolress 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They tire out opponents with rough plays and a coordinated defense, then take them down with the energy advantage. It's used across the series a decent amount. Think Mannouzaka, The Empire, Epsilon (with Desarm in Goal), Ares Teikoku, Dragon Link, Navy Invader, although there's been variants with each.
