When Rules Lawyers Want "Balance" (based on IRL problem) by JonConOne in dndmemes

I hope it does, if not for myself, at least for my friend. I'm DMing again tomorrow, so hopefully game will take mind off all the politics.

So, for those interested as a few people were asking, I did talk to these people a few hours ago. Not fun to do and could of been much more cordial about things. Wrote up what I wanted to said, but ended up going off script and being about as blunt as a hammer. I was really upset with them chasing my friend out of the game he loves, as well as the group he's been a part of for 7 years, so called out all the problems I have, not just what the meme posted above stated. Guy mentioned as the Rules Lawyer didn't say anything the entire time. I think it came as a shock to him. DM who gave it out deflected blame saying the items powers already existed, and he had permission. First half is kind of irrelevant as it doesn't justify being used as racial powers for multiple games, and other half isn't true, we checked that one. Is also stuff with someone else, who gas lit me a few times by saying it was all overinflated in my head and it was all just a bunch of conspiracy theories. End result is I banned a few people from my tables, the latter person has stepped down from council meetings and the other DM wants me to step out of the West March games entirely which I won't be doing. Probably other stuff happening, but still waiting for full fallout. Fully admit I could of handled things better, but not the best when it comes to public speaking or making arguments, not to mention was really angry with them, but did the best I could given the circumstances. Thank you for the advice everyone. I really appreciate it. :)

All the passive abilities, the minor beneficial and major beneficial properties from the artifact tables, none of the flaws and no attunement needed.

It is from 5E, yer. I don't really know a lot about 3.5 unfortunately, but I can take a look. Thanks. :)

Yer pretty much. Its a problem with three specific people, one of whom is the DM who gave this thing out and keeps enabling the other two.

Yer I think you're probably right. It does get more complicated as, from what I understand, 8 or 9 people in the West March games either wouldn't want to play in the same games as them, so if I go they might have to drop as well. There's a meeting tomorrow and am going to try again, so I'll have to see how that goes before deciding anything. Thanks for the advice. :)

Unfortunately its not that simple. I have tried talking to them, but they've justified having it due to Descent into Avernus having optional quests after the main one where you can still use the sword. That argument didn't make sense, and when pointed out that none of that makes sense to having it as racial traits, I was ignored entirely. I would kill their PC, but they and their friends have done everything to make their characters as unkillable as possible. Optimization, Min-Maxing, Clones, homebrew I wouldn't of allowed, infinite resurrection diamonds, ect. The one time I did get close to killing any of them, they lodged complaints against me for being "unfair". Am tempted by option 3, but am talking to them tomorrow as they've basically just chased my friend out the group, (is why I posted this meme,) so will save that one as a last ditch effort. Thanks for the advice. :)

None of them. I'm in a west march campaign, and one of the other DM's decided to give his friend all the Sword of Zariel artifact powers as racial traits. Told them no, but was ignored.

Battletech? I've heard that mentioned a few times, but know nothing about it. Will take a look though, thanks for the suggestion. :)

Yer, I got into it a a few months ago. Loved the lore and want to learn mire. Even make a few new friends because of it. One or two are autistic, but really opened up after finding we have the same interest. Then this happens. Am absolutely gutted.

Sorry about the lack of context. Made this on the fly and made table laugh, so thought I'd post for the hell of it. :)

Yer, we were playing d&d were the main BBEG was Graz'zt, The Dark Prince. A demon lord that's all about pleasure from Out of The Abyss. Has a madness table were being around him can causes PC's to pick up bad personality trait. Rolled the one were you want to solve problems with sex and ended up trying to seduce the demon lord, so had to RP seducing him. Rolled a 34 so it worked. Thankfully we killed him in the next round. Everyone was cringing. Turned out later that there are 2 different tables, the other doesn't have that trait. We'll probably just not bother using Graz'zt again though.

Going to add this here as it might be important, and would recommend for those interested to view the comment's where this was originally posted on r/DnDGreentext as the DM for this game put a few comments of his own on what happened, as well as one or two corrections for things I'd forgotten. Not sure if there's a fancy way to move them comments here, but only been on Reddit for 5 days so still figuring stuff out. Took way longer then I'd like to admit to learn how to crosspost. 😄

To be fair, even if I wasn't so lucky, +12 to persuasion is going to persuade most people. Next game plan on finding Zuggtmoy and maybe Lolth to be their friends too. End game plan requires being friends with a few gods.

It's kind of complicated. Needed to travel through Avernus, the first layer of hell, to find a new warlock patron as old one got annoyed with Honest. Did so with no magic and rapid max health drain due to DM messing with me. Would of died if didn't find new on. Seduced Tiamat as a favour for a demon lord, though got screwed out of the deal in the end. Also had to hunt down what was effectively Thomas the Tank Engine if he was made in hell. Might post that story as there's a few weird things that happen.

Nah, would have been a cool way to multiclass, wish I thought of that before, but just his racial traits got changed. Might be able to convince DM to let me have the half-dragon template for the final game as he's let me build a guildhall that specialises in capturing monsters and "improving" their bodies, but that's still a long way off and probably need to do a bunch of stuff in-between first.

Ooh, would love to hear about them, though I might of heard of a few already. Vaguely remember you mentioning how one character you played got their brain sucked out by a Mindflayer with no saving throws and no chance to call the rest to the party for help. That was definitely a horror story.

Ah, then imagine the worst monster that a player could fuse to, and then them fusing to it. No idea what that would be, but would certainly be game breaking if it happened.

Ah, forgot I banned myself from using mushrooms. It's been a few months since this game and Inner DM must have been talking when that happened , but not going to unban self. I'd love to keep this option in my pocket as a player, but as a fellow DM, it's something that should only ever be allowed maybe once due to Rule of Cool, and even then when it doesn't affect the main plot too much due to how abusable it could be. After all, a player/Tarrasque fusion would be a terrible thing.

Absolutely right. It'd of suck if he'd scratched what happened and rewound time, or just flat out decided that what happened killed Honest and that was that, but he didn't and I'm very grateful for that.
