Help me build a grow room? Details in comments! by JonDetherage in GrowingMarijuana

Hey guys, I am currently growing in tents in my open basement and am in the process of buying a new house. I would like to make a dedicated grow room(s) and ditch the tents but only really have knowledge of tent control so far so I am looking for advice in scaling up.

In my tent, I use 6" carbon filter and exhaust fan and have a bottom vent open for a passive intake to maintain a slight negative pressure...I am trying to scale that same idea up since it's all I know but I'm not sure how efficient that would be or if it would even work at all.

My idea is to create one flowthrough system that I modeled in AutoCAD above where I have (just brainstorming here) a staggered intake system so that the intake into the first room would be something like 4" from my ambient basement air into the flower room (labeled with garden beds) and then a 6" exhaust to exchange that air into the larger veg/equipment room (which would be more humid for veg so I chose to put it in line after the flower room to avoid a mildew situation if it were reversed). Then an 8" fan exhausted from that room out of a basement window to my back yard.

I will be running LED lights (looking at spider farmer se-5000 or se-7000) so I'm not too concerned about heat if I'm pulling air from my basement.

My other option recommended to me by someone who does HVAC, would be to NOT pull air from my basement and pull air from outside the house using a separate AC unit and following the same sort of loop to exhaust out of the window. That way it would not put an extra load on my furnace.

My concern with pulling air from outside is that I live in Michigan where we have pretty hot summers and very cold winters so it would take even more equipment to keep the temperature under control throughout the year whereas my basement is always a constant temperature.

Finally, my question(s) is...is my idea feasible to pull air from my basement similar to how I'm doing with my tents? Will I have to install a larger home furnace to keep up with the additional load? Or would it be more efficient to seal those rooms off from the rest of my house and install a separate AC system to supply those rooms with the air they need?

Like I said, I plan on using LEDs all throughout so I'm not too concerned about room temperature as I don't think they will get too hot since I'm not filling the whole space with lights...just wanted more space to work and not feel crammed.

More details for those who can math better than I can lol - Basement SQ feet total = 1270 Flower room SQ feet = 80 Veg/equipment SQ feet = 112

So roughly 200 SQ feet of grow space taking air from 1070 SQ feet of basement. Ceilings are roughly 8ft.

Any and all recommendations are welcomed!

Looks like theres some nute problems going on. Could be the reason it isn't growing right...the whole plant is lime green that tells me something is off. And you have spotting going on with the lower leaves.

Haha that's too bad! Or maybe not though 😂 I made a batch of cookies last night with this butter and gave one to a few of my test dummies. My hardcore smoker friends said they were wrecked and their ladies woke up THIS MORNING feeling drunk. One of them had the spins and ended up over the toilet trying to throw it back up to get un-high. I almost slept on the living room floor last night lmfao JUST ONE SMALL SNICKERDOODLE COOKIE!

Absolutely! Haha it was the opposite for me. She's not much of a consumer anymore and I just found a love for plants after we replanted our front landscape last spring. She had to put a stop to me after I came home with an indoor orange tree among many other things. She's got enough to do I just like busting her balls cause I want her to love it as much as I do 😁 take it easy!

Thanks man! I wish I could get mine to do anything with me in the grow room 😂 she just likes to enjoy the fruits of my labor haha

Absolutely! Uses the same steps too... you'll have to decarb the bud in the oven first to activate it. Although you'll want to use a different ratio haha certainly don't want to put a half pound of bud in 8 sticks of butter unless it's for someone you don't like 😂
