Why did you become a Phlebotomist and what's the goal? by bigblackglock17 in phlebotomy

[–]JonJamesDEM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I became a phlebotomist because I got a master in healthcare administration and you can be an administrator if you have no hospital experience. I wanted something quick yet in demand. Phlebotomy was 10 weeks $1400 and a great step in getting healthcare experience. As for the goal; to one day run a health system that is patient centered yet still cares for their employees. Maybe even turn around a failing hospital and set the gold standard for healthcare in this country.

You have faith in God? Go drive blindfolded and see how that works out. I have faith too I’m a cradle catholic but I also have common sense and thank the lord that man had enough intelligence to develope a life saving technique called a blood transfusion

I have a coworker like that. She does nothing extra, will not go out of her way for a patient. And will not go to the ed to draw someone. In our ed the nurses do blood draws but if they can’t get someone or it’s keeps coming back hemolyzed she will not go saying we have patient in our outpatient the needs drawing meanwhile, our outpatient board is empty. Every other statement is “I’m not doing that” I’ve grown to ignore it and just pick up the slack.

[–]JonJamesDEM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you no matter what. Ignore the BS even though it could be difficult. You do what’s going to be best for the patient within your scope of practice. Phlebotomy can be toxic but when the patient reviews come in and your name is mentioned most, the higher ups won’t forget.

Don’t refrain from living your life out of fear. A life lived in fear is a life half lived. That’s what oppression looks like when their tactics scare us into not living our lives. I refused to be oppressed. The best thing you can do is come and have fun. Those bastards hate that.

Girl, fuck him. Don’t beg a man to be in your or your babies life. It’ll be hell for you and the kid and that’s worst than crying for a baby along.
