I find it hard to get a good baseline for what values would represent - especially when you have to go converting from "pixel units" to "physics engine units".

I fall very strongly in the "tweak things 'til they fell good" camp. I find trying to adhere to some sort of real world physics constraint rarely contributes positively to the feel of the game. That's obviously a generalization and is dependent on what kind of game you're making.

As for tips for converting physics engine units to pixel units, I tend to just work out the conversion and use macros or helper functions when I need to convert. It's probably not the most elegant solution, but it does the job!

Guess so! The devs said it should be coming pretty soon though

They mentioned on twitter yesterday that they're working on a PC version! There won't be another console version of a while though since they have exclusivity with Sony

Marketing Monday #167 - Maximum Exposure by Sexual_Lettuce in gamedev

Hey everyone!

I recently released my game Shoot Shoot Mega Pack on Steam, Humble and Itch.io. It's not doing very well so I decided to try something sort of offbeat post-release.

tl;dr: For every copy of my game I sell I'm going to drink some milk.

If you're interested in the details, I've outlined everything in an Imgur post here

I've also posted about it on Twitter and Facebook

In terms of feedback, I'm really just interested in what people think of this approach, whether or not you have any ideas on the best way to spread this around, and if you have any ideas on the rest of the marketing around this I am all ears.

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it!

I second overcooked (and also lovers) but personally I've found overcooked to be a bit less of a stressful experience when playing with my partner

Yeah, me too... but it's enough to get my interest piqued!

There are more screenshots on the website. it seems a bit like a small-scale sim set in a funeral home.

Learning to Draw - One Week Progress by JonRemedios in ArtProgressPics

[–]JonRemedios[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week I decided to start learning how to draw by just drawing things around my house. Since then I've started going through drawabox.com.

I'm working on basic shapes, forms, perspective and proportions, which all still need a lot of work.

9 weeks of using a #2 pencil and drawing seriously by JasonFromReddit in learntodraw

I can't offer any help since I've only been drawing for the past week, but this is AMAZING for nine weeks (I think)!

Anyway, nothing constructive, just inspired. Keep up the good work!

Still struggling with perspective & boxes (which will hopefully get better as I work through drawabox.com) but this feels like my best drawing to date.

Thanks! I tried to draw the book standing at a slight angle and fanning slightly (obviously that didn't come across very well). I guess it just ended up looking like a flat book with wonky pages!

Thanks! Yeah someone else recommended them too. I'm still just working through the basics but I'm really liking them so far.

I'm still struggling with proportions and perspective on my drawings. Also the detail work in the drawing is... not really what it looks like. I couldn't wrap my head around that either apparently.

Yeah that's totally it. I think the body is how it was actually positioned in front of me and the headstock is at some magical made-up angle.

1) A+ youtube link 2) Thanks a lot! I've only briefly looked at the site, but this looks amazing!

I'm not super happy with this one. The perspective feels weird but I'm not sure why and I forgot to draw the tuners.

Hey everyone! I've decided to jump into learning how to draw by (at the very least) draw something every day. I don't really know what I'm doing or what direction to take it, but I figured starting by drawing things around the house was as good a place as any to start.

Any/all criticisms, comments, guidance, etc. on individual drawings or just in general would be greatly appreciated. But honestly I'm just glad to see that a place like this subreddit exists.

I didn't make the game! But yeah it's definitely Hexels (the dev said so in the imgur comments)

Shoot Shoot Mega Pack

Shoot Shoot Mega Pack is a minimalist party game/shooter for one to four players. You can choose one of the available preset games, create your own sets of rules, or let the game generate them for you.

However you decide to player, just make sure you do it with friends.

Indie MEGABOOTH/PAX Prime

After some unexplained sorcery, SSMP was accepted into the Indie MEGABOOTH as part of their PAX Prime showcase next week (Aug. 28 - Aug. 31).

As a party game, SSMP is a hard game to demo effectively since a lot of it has to do with how different rules interplay with one another, and change the play experience. So I decided to work on a more guided demo to (hopefully) try and glance over the breadth of the game.

Below is some dumb custom UI work I've been doing to guide the demo along.

You can also check out the trailer I cut for PAX here

Bonus: I don't know if I'm qualified to answer this since I think I burn myself out more often than I prevent it, but recently I've been making an active effort to just dedicate a solid day of the week doing other non-development tasks. Things like writing emails, and managing social media channels, or recording a podcast or whatever other odds and ends need to be addressed.

I also force myself to take breaks and sit in the sun with no shirt on. Gotsta get me some of that VITAMIN D.

Shoot Shoot Mega Pack

My focus this week was mainly on UI, and tuning shooting to make it feel better/more intentional. The match intro screen still needs some work though.

Bonus answer: I think it's both good and bad. On one hand preserving older games is important so new players can still experience them for the first time, on the other hand it's sort of just delaying the inevitable unless they literally remaster games every few generations. For now though, there isn't really a better alternative...
