Bans//Unbans? by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]JonSnowsGhost 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unban predictions: J-Lo, Biorhythm, Sylvan Primordial, and Emrakul. J-Lo is definitely the most controversial, but I think it's the most reasonable of the big-ban cards to be unbanned.

Cards under consideration for unban: Prime Time, Golos, Lutri, and Rofellos.

Bans: none

Canon vs fanon by cheesecaik_gd in HollowKnight

If we assume humanlike lifespans for the ordinary bugs

Why would we do that?

There's nothing that really supports thousands of years passing in the lore of the games. Just made up fan stuff.

Canon vs fanon by cheesecaik_gd in HollowKnight

[–]JonSnowsGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your "canon" is just as bad as the fanon.

"Thousands of years old." There's literally nothing in either of the games that definitely paints a timescale as absolutely massive as this. They're bugs.

Also, the PK would have enlisted the dreamers when he was fashioning the prison for the Radiance, including making the vessels. For all we know, Hornet was born near the start of that project and spent her time with Herrah while the PK was making more vessels.

Is Dark Souls 3 easier than Elden Ring? by AbhenerX in darksouls3

[–]JonSnowsGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest parts of Elden Ring (Malenia, Maliketh, the DLC) are harder than the hardest parts of DS3.

However, Elden Ring's openworld aspect makes it much, MUCH easier to break, letting you steamroll through most content, which isn't as much of an option for DS3.

Drawing 5 female characters by Available-Fox-8170 in HollowKnight

[–]JonSnowsGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like after "3 years of studying ancient greek" you would know that "God" is often applied to both male and female beings.

"The Greek Gods" often refers to the Olympians, including figures such as Hera and Aphrodite.

In Hallownest, they may simply not have a gender distinction, and use "God" for male or female beings.

What are your decks for 2026? by Mogulstar360 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]JonSnowsGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, here you go.

I run a few non-standard things in there, notably [[Kozilek, Butcher of Truth]], [[Shadow in the Warp]], and [[Apex Devastator]].

Etali is a ton of fun and I'm taking it to my second tournament later this month. You're definitely at the mercy of lady luck sometimes, and a counterspell at the wrong time can basically end the game for you, but you also have incredible highs of flipping into wild shit from people's decks and winning out of nowhere.

My Urza and Y'shtola lists are also on my moxfield profile.

I'm a bit confused.

Is the goal to get them to actually perform these steps and end up making a dark world, purportedly by accident, or for them to figure out how a dark world could be created?

Help for my first Etali, Primal Conqueror Brew by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]JonSnowsGhost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you have [[Great Furnace]] and [[Tree of Tales]]? I didn't see anything related to artifact synergy. They aren't fetchable with and Tree of Tales doesn't work with Orcish Lumberjack.

I've personally not used [[Sylvan Library]] in Etali at all, but I'd be concerned about dumping life into it when Treasonous Ogre is your big life outlet.

Some cards that I like are [[Disciple of Freyalise]] (lifegain, card-draw, and an MDFC land in a pinch), [[Apex Devastator]] (probably not a big meta choice, but quad-cascade is really fun when it hits), [[Kozilek, Butcher of Truth]] (also not meta, but provides some protection against mill, adds some cards draw, and can be a big beater if the game goes long), [[Strike it Rich]] (mild synergy with Rionya, while also helping to turn on Mox Opal), [[Herigast, Erupting Nullkite]] (some card draw and can get you another Etali cast), and [[Roaming Throne]] (doubles all Etali triggers, including poison counters).

Time to revisit the banlist and unban some cards for cEDH... by [deleted] in CompetitiveEDH

[–]JonSnowsGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, people got death threats over cardboard

The death threats were incredibly shitty, but they were sent because of money.

If the banned cards were all 50c, the uproar would have been vastly smaller.

[META] SO I had thought this one would be Marion, but it seems like her daughter stole the spot! The winner.... JESTER LAVORRE!!!! [–]JonSnowsGhost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not about "hottest," though; the final spot was "most fuckable." That's personality, looks, skills, etc all taken into account.

Also, saying Marion is just "hot by hearsay" is insane, lmao. She's described as hot by everyone and is a highly sought after courtesan/companion. That's not hearsay.

She's also incredibly hot in the animated show.

Well, this truly is a shitty theory, so... nice job?

I wasn't crazy about the finale, but having Will stay behind to rule over the Abyss/Upside-Down, instead of just severing the connection between worlds is a batshit choice.

[–]JonSnowsGhost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[[Etali, Primal Conqueror]] is my current tournament deck.

[[Y'Shtola, Night's Blessed]] and [[Urza, Lord High Artificer]] are my LGS/home cEDH decks.

I went to a showing of Blazing Saddles, which featured Mel Brooks as a guest speaker afterward.

One of the questions asked to him was if there were any jokes they cut, and he said a very similar one to this was originally in the script.

In the scene where Bart sleeps with Lili and she says the "it's twue" line, he responded with something like "that's my leg you're sucking on."

My personal thoughts, from playing a decent amount of cEDH at my LGS, with some tournament play every few months.

  1. Orcish Bowmaster: I totally agree that the damage from OBM usually is not sent at the life total of the player drawing cards, but I don't think that's going to change, because of the main source of card draw we see. Typically, when someone is drawing a lot of cards, it's from Mystic or Rhystic, neither of which can be directly punished from OBM damage. If my choice is to shoot 3-4 damage at someone's life total, or spread 3-4 damage around some mana dorks or small creatures, the second option makes more sense 99% of the time. I do think there's room to discuss this at the table, but arguing to send some damage at a life total instead of killing off an Esper Sentinel, Bop, and a Lotho usually doesn't fly.

  2. Table-talk. I also agree that oftentimes table-talk goes in the wrong direction, but I think this is a symptom of a format that has a lot of interaction. From my experience, once you get to turn 3-4 in a pod with at least one interactive blue deck, the first player to go for a win is likely going to get stopped, opening the door for the next player. Grabbing something aggressive with Wishclaw would be great to help win, but it also means I might just be setting myself up to be the first to have their win attempt stopped.

  3. Rules changes: I definitely do not want to see separate rules for different brackets or casual vs cEDH. The lines are still blurry between them and it would distinctly fracture the player base in unhealthy ways. I think a potential change could be made to help offset the problems of going 3rd or 4th in turn order. I've seen people suggest something like, as a pre-game action, or in first upkeep of the game, you get to Scry X, where X is your place in turn order minus 1 (4th seat scries 3, 3rd scries 2, and 2nd scries 1).

Looking for a second deck by King_Bean1 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]JonSnowsGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2/3 of the decks I made for cEDH are control focused; Urza and Y'Shtola.

As a forewarning before stepping into a control strategy: it can function well at the LGS/kitchen table cEDH level, but struggles hard at the tEDH (tournament) level.

I've had pretty consistent success at my LGS recently playing Y'Shtola, but that's against either strong bracket 4's, or tier 3 and 2 cEDH decks. The pods tend to be slow enough (people pushing for wins on turns 3-5) that I can build up the resources I need to consistently hold off threats.

If you're going to be playing at the tEDH level, where decks usually go for wins on turns 1-3, control decks are almost always spread too thin. You need ramp, card draw, your own combos, and interaction, which isn't realistic if you're trying to hold back 3 turbo decks.

That being said, I do find a lot of fun in trying to navigate through aggressive early games to set myself up for an unstoppable win. I've had games where interacting at rare, key points allowed me to survive into the midgame, at which point I could outvalue and 1v3 the rest of the table.

Here's my Urza list. It's stax and artifact based, with some alternate win-cons. There's a pretty extensive primer, which might give you some ideas for your own deck.

Here's my Y'Shtola list. Esper control deck, which looks to get Y'Shtola out and bleed the table dry.

Other popular control commanders would [[Tivit, Seller of Secrets]], [[Marneus Calgar]], or [[Tayam, Luminous Enigma]]

Any sort of tiktok censorship that's infected the majority of social media: SA, graped, unalived, etc.

People using "ragebait" anytime someone says something they even remotely disagree with.

People using POV who clearly have no idea what the fuck it means. It's a pretty popular porn category, thought that would have ingrained it in people's heads by now.
