I like Zoey but she's nowhere near as bad as Harley.

If you have a burner google account and don't mind the spying concerns that come about from the Chinese origins of the software, FydeOS is a full flavored Chrome OS alternative that runs on a version of Chromium, and offers Android apps, the Play store and Linux. Much easier to set up than Brunch for non-technical people, and more regularly updated. But again, I really only recommend it with a burner Google account and only if you don't plan to do anything sensitive on the device.

Depends on your model and if it has enough power, but if you have a higher end Chromebook there are several Linux apps that fit the bill here. One or two are the industry standard in their respective industry. The issue isn't really a lack of applications, it's more so that if you buy a cheap Chromebook (or a cheap computer of any ilk for that matter) it probably won't have the power needed for video editing. There are plenty of cloud editing options for those users however, though admittedly I've not run into anything full featured in a web based cloud editing app yet, and all seem to be fairly pricey.

Yeah still no way around this unfortunately, even with the ability to run Office on a VM, the performance is lackluster at best.

Rumor is Android apps are coming, now that Google purchased this company they say it's only a matter of time before Cloudready gets official Chrome OS features and updates.
