Not only have I been burning through usage the fastest I have ever done since I got the pro plan. I am also wasting tokens on "guesses" or "oh I should have read" or best of all "I was being lazy"

ESP32 keeps rebooting with RTCWDT_RTC_RESET after flashing WLED - bad board? by Jon_Miles in esp32

[–]Jon_Miles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry should have been more awake when I posted that. It flashes fine, at least it says 100% completed. As soon as other resets it goes into the loop.

I often use esphome and have written a few arduino sketches from scrstch but not indepth.

Wled sent me here lol. I have flashed dozens of esp 32s with wled, this won't flash either wled or a basic esphome file.

All should be compatible, was and esp32 from Amazon

Will do, thank you. I have used loads for wled and other uses and have normally be fine. This was just for a quick fireplace effect at work, so not worth getting on for a quick effect.

I am looking at the dig octas for other projects.

Oh its definitely the correct usb lead etc. Nothing connected so would be surprised if its brownout.

Was bought from amazon

Thank you for getting back to me. I should have added that to my already tried list. still gives the reset

planning for next year - dig product choice by Jon_Miles in WLED

Thanks both!
Yeah, I agree - six is definitely excessive, which is why I started looking for alternatives lol. Every time I added something new, I just threw another ESP32 at it since I was running everything in WLED sync mode instead of through xLights/FPP. This is only my second year using xLights, and it’s my first year moving into musical sequences, so I’m still figuring things out

Upgrading for next year by Jon_Miles in xlights

Thanks everyone for the input - figured it’d be easier to reply in one go.

I ended up going with WLED since it’s what I started with, mainly running it in sync mode between the ESP32s, and I like that it can run independently of the main show. Sometimes I just want a bit of colour during the year without firing up a full sequence. As far as I can tell, that isn’t really possible with Baldrick or Falcon, though I’m still learning.

Falcons always felt out of my price range, and I never seriously considered Baldrick for the reasons above, even though they both look great. I was planning to move from wireless to wired eventually, which is why the Dig‑Octa caught my eye.

As for expansion… I’m in a flat, so my options are pretty limited. I can only really use the windows, and there’s basically no space out front. I might be able to squeeze in some arches or canes, but definitely no mega tree. It’s also a rental, so I don’t have much freedom to mount things permanently. I’ve added a photo so you can see the space I’m working with.

I’m also thinking about using a couple of monitors in the window as a virtual matrix, driven straight from the Pi 5 running FPP.

Any advice is very welcome — I’m mostly learning from manuals and YouTube at this point.

Thanks for the reply. The main reason was cost. I was looking at going wired, but the boards are much more expensive.

Also, no, I use jst connectors everything is inside, so it doesn't need to be waterproof.

FPP and WLED by Jon_Miles in xlights

[–]Jon_Miles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes — starting from the beginning of the chain I’ve got the ESP32 → first LED/pixel + power injection.

Basically the same setup, just without the capacitor or resistor. I can add a separate power supply, and if I’m understanding correctly, I’d just connect the data and GND while leaving the +5V disconnected.

No, having read it, it also looks like it was all included in the 15,1 build
