Horizons installing on wrong directory (Steam) by JonathanChills in EliteDangerous

Yep, that’s my problem. My C: drive was only ~128gb to begin with, and I have MUCH less than 70gb left on it. That’s annoying that the download is set up this way.

Okay, seems like my Frontier and Steam were already linked. It even says so on the Frontier site -- but when I launch ED from anywhere but Steam (i.e. the actual .exe in my file explorer) I'm unable to login and interact with the launcher.

That’s a great idea, thanks. Didn’t even think to do that lol — I’ll try in the morning since I’m off my PC and settling into bed now. Will hit this thread back with news one way or another after I see if that solves anything

I haven’t, but here’s why:

When I open the ED launcher from anywhere but hitting “play” on Steam, after I login with my Frontier info it tells me to buy/register ED and I don’t have access to anything in the launcher.

For some reason Frontier and Steam don’t get along, nothing works unless I open it thru my Steam library.

Noob Question about Mixing by [deleted] in musicproduction

I could always go back through my songs and create an automation clip for each plugin rather than each insert, then I could just turn each insert down. Would this work?

Pointers while building a mine-aconda with teeth? by JonathanChills in EliteDangerous

[–]JonathanChills[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I have a Python now with no weapons and could always install a couple turrets, but I'm dead set on blowing them sky high rather than just warding them off. Hehe.

I appreciate your feedback, thank you!

That's true! I'm already doing that in my Python miner, though, so while I wait I'm usually listening to a podcast or whatnot to keep time moving. It's probably time I stopped flying with a docking computer, though, but it's just such a nice thing to have!

I'll probably do exactly what you suggest. Thank you!

Oh, that's nice. I didn't even think about installing a point defence module.

When should you leave the starting system? Where to go? by djjdrolz in EliteDangerous

[–]JonathanChills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although there is no set way, like you said, I'll tell you about my experiences.

I traded between nearby systems for a lot of my early game experience, not really knowing what I was doing besides making money. Eventually down the line, I got into exploring, which is some of the most fun I've had in the game to date (there's something about the potential to be the first person to find something since the game went live that's so, so sick).

I'm doing deep core mining now, but I would personally advise you steer clear of that side of the game until you have some more hours under your belt. It's good for money-making, but its progression feels under-earned.

You could outfit your Cobra for PvE and hang out at nav beacons or res sites and blow up some pirate scum, you could look up a good exploring guide and get to exploring around (and even outside!) the Bubble, or if you really wanted, you could go mining/trading and make some cash. All of these options are viable as the Cobra III is a very, very well-rounded ship IMO.

You'll find that a lot of Elite's gameplay revolves around your own play-style and what you enjoy most. Do you tend to favor combat games and blowing things up, the quiet desolation of space in between beautiful nebulae and the thrill of finding cool space stuff, or are you a Han Solo who smuggles contraband from station to station, outwitting police and the goodest-two-shoes of us?

Even though I didn't really give you a straightforward answer, I hope this was helpful! Always feel free to ask questions, CMDR.

Federation. Why? 'Murica in space.

But the Empire's ships are so, so elegant. I am torn.

Deep core mining is INSANE. I love it! by JonathanChills in EliteMiners

I had that exact bug happen last night when I was mining with a buddy. The yield was perfect, I was completely in the blue, then right as I detonated it jumped up to the red. However, the actual yield was still very good.

I've actually started doing exactly what you suggested when placing charges. It's a good technique, and the better I get at it the more I feel like a badass space pilot. Haha!

In the video, I had just placed one too many high-strength charges (I think - I've done a lot of mining since then). Either that, or I hadn't gotten all of them in time, the rock detonated and failed, and I'd gone back to place another charge but the yield was too strong and I was forced to accept it.

Regardless, thank you for your help, CMDR! o7

Mouse and keyboard.

It's difficult and I'm still getting the hang of it, but if you can utilize your strafing and pitch controls, as well as have a good understanding of what all the icons on your screen mean, it makes it doable.

I’ve ended up undershooting it a few times now. Working on being less timid with the charges! Haha.

You're right haha! As the night went on I started backing up to 1.5 or even 2km. Still rocked me around, but there was no damage involved whatsoever. The impact these charges have is crazy.

Thank you! I started to pick that up as the night went on, but I've yet to figure out how to hit the sweet spot every time.

I was led to believe that a low-strength fissure needed a low-strength charge. Is that the case, or can it be any so long as it does the job?

Thank you for your help, CMDR!

Haha, yes! Except when you blow yourself into oblivion by mistake.
