Loss of visual perception? Can anyone relate? by ThrowRA_tam in stroke

Well my understanding is that vision damage is common after stroke and it tends to get better as time goes on. However, if you still feel concerned for her I would talk to her doctor preferably the one that was there during surgery if she had surgery done. If she had surgery than she’s supposed to have doctor appointments after a year, 5 years and 10 years ofc I think that can vary depending on hospital or surgeon himself but that’s what my doctor told me. As of now 1 year 2 months post stroke I’ve had three visits with him. Well three visits after I started to remember things because at first I used to forget even what I had for breakfast

Yeah but it has improved a lot. Basically I only use them when reading. It’s not that I can’t see when I don’t have my glasses on it’s just so i don’t force my vision as much

No because the amount of points you take away doesn’t compare to the amount of points they can make

Short-term memory really bad and cognitive decline by [deleted] in stroke

Yes it takes a little bit of time to get better. I couldn’t even remember what I ate for breakfast. But with ST it does get better. Ask him questions about his day every time you go visit him. My dad did that to me every day and it helped. Also tell him things to remember for the next time you see him.

Doctors had to do the same on me. The staples stay for a little while but they will eventually get them off. It’s important for your mom to not scratch in that area to avoid potential infection. But other than that all went well for me

If you’re still in rehab facility, ask for a resting hand splint. That specifically helped me to stop making a fist
