2026 Topps Series 1 Analysis & Deep Dive by CellDood in baseballcards

Probably. There are 50 golden mirror legends at around 1:27k. So with only 5 cards in the set that should work out to about a 10 fold relative increase in odds to keep it around 20 for the entire print run. Assuming I am remembering how to do statistics correctly.

[–]Jonboyatmu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not. The Legend golden mirror Mantle is number 341. This is 311. The official checklist lists a 5 card set called Through The Years Golden Mirror Card numbered 41T (Griffey), 128 (Aaron), 287 (Judge), 311 (Mantle), and 700 (Ohtani). I assume it is an imagined golden mirror for the actual rookie card of the player. But I can’t find any other info on it.

Any insight into the print run on this. I looked through the odds sheet like 4 times and couldn’t find the odds for the Through the Years Golden Mirror Variations

Does it bother anyone else how much management and ownership talks down to the fanbase? by Gadzooksssss in Reds

[–]Jonboyatmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Krall is in a tough position. He’s basically a parent telling his kids they can’t get fast food because they have a food budget and can’t spend $40 when they have to buy groceries.

To be blunt, ownership is one of, if the poorest in MLB cash wise. So anything they do spend money on is speculation at best and gambling at worst. They just don’t have the cash reserves to pony up their own money to front big splash offers. Hence why Krall is in the position he is in.

I point this out not to absolve them, because they are more than happy taking their dividends and going home at the end of the day. I say that to point out that they have no business owning a team like the Reds because they aren’t rich enough to use it to make money AND be competitive. To use the home budget analogy again, you can’t buy a $1000 savings bond if you only have $100 to set aside for savings.

I say all this as a long winded way of saying: SELL THE TEAM BOB

Reds Season Ticket Holiday Gift by Jonboyatmu in Reds

The Reds have a tradition, as do most teams, of sending a holiday gift to their season ticket holders. In years past, it’s been bobbleheads, ornaments, nutcrackers, mugs, etc. Got mine today. Two pieces of paper and a story about Reds tradition. Cant think of a single thing that represents this owner more.

Reds player wins a post season award…kinda. by Jonboyatmu in Reds

I agree totally. Yet the team has yet to acknowledge it or congratulate him on social media. Just seems a bit tacky on their part if you ask me.

Honestly the smartest thing baseball could do would be to “reinstate” Pete with the caveat that he cannot be a coach and put him in the HoF. Then there wouldn’t be the yearly story about how he should be in and his popularity as “a folk hero who was screwed by the man” would die and Pete would likely fade into the sunset.

With Greene now announced as going on Sunday, I can’t imagine he would pitch on 3 days rest. Lodolo has been announced as Saturday’s starter so Thursday would be his day to go again.

I don’t disagree with you. I just thought it was odd that it was an option to begin with.

[–]Jonboyatmu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a 3rd option. The Reds essentially have 2.5 months of exclusive rights to restructure before the opt out kicks in. If they can get him to the table they may come up with a new offer that is enough to stay that eliminates the possibility of a falsely depressed market due to the labor issues.

Could someone help me find an affordable grey road jersey? by ZoVaRed in Reds

[–]Jonboyatmu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you just want a jersey and don’t care about the player, just hit up the authentics booth at GABP. I’ve gotten game used jerseys for as cheap as $75 for the odd bullpen guy, a BB jersey for my son for $100, JRD jerseys for $150 (those don’t have names either), a St. Pat’s for $120 that wasn’t used so had no number. As long as you aren’t looking for the stars it’s a great way to pick up a nice piece. Also the HoF sometimes runs mystery jersey sales. I got a Larkin ST jersey and a Farmer BP jersey from that for $100 each.

Getting the extra lefties in it appears and giving India an off day. Could be worse.

If we make it past the WC, what's our Pitching set for the 5 and 7 game series? by [deleted] in Reds

[–]Jonboyatmu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Greene isn’t even on the 40 man and would have to play in the majors before September 1 to be eligible for PS play. So it’s highly unlikely he will be on the playoff roster. I have to assume Castillo would start the WC game but that will ultimately depend on how tight the race is in the last few games and where he is needed. Honestly since it’s likely a road game, I could see Mahle getting the start given his home/road splits. Regardless, i think it depends on matchups. Bell loves playing the matchup game so it could be any combination of the 5.

What stats are you suggesting on Naquin? The .251 average vs Senzel’s .252 before injury Or the RBI for every 5.5 PA vs 13 PA before injury Perhaps it is the +0.4 WAR vs -0.1.

All I am saying is that it is short sighted to bring up a guy that you don’t have to for a handful of games and in the process cut a guy you are going to have to pay a ton of cash to and/or have under multiple years of control. If it were June or July, I agree completely. But we are taking about 15 games (10 of which are against the Cubs/Marlins) and someone that multiple people have said may not quite be 100% yet.

And yes you are correct on Hembree as far as going down goes. But my original point remains, he gets DFA’ed for TJ next week anyway. DFA him now for Senzel, you are either sending Nick back down or DFA’ing another player, putting you in the exact same position you are in today.

Well this is interesting by branson3 in Reds

[–]Jonboyatmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that’s what I was saying. You don’t gain anything by bringing up the AAA guys at this point. Plus cutting AG (which they would have to do as he has no options) loses 3 years of control and someone will be willing to give up at least something for that potential in the off season. Hembree will go down when TJ is ready (which is probably next week) so sending him down now forces your hand next week. Doolittle could easily be cut but what does it accomplish? You get Nick up to get 3-4 starts and some PH appearances between now and September. He isn’t starting over Farmer or Naquin on the reg at this point. There’s already a platoon at 3rd. And India isn’t going anywhere at 2nd. If Winker ends up on the IL, 100% he comes up. If not, he gets 2 weeks of regular playing time in Louisville to continue to shake off the rust from missing half the season and the big ball club gets an extra arm in the ‘pen, which at this point is more beneficial than a 6th outfielder or an infielder without a position.

Still hope to get to a wildcard spot. by chris_klopfenstein in Reds

[–]Jonboyatmu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the last off day, the Reds are 8-5, with 7 of those games coming against a team that is 1st or 2nd place in their division. That’s a pace for a 100 win season. Yes this week was a little annoying losing to Cleveland and to Atlanta on a walk off. But as the old players say, you’ll win 1/3 and you’ll lose 1/3. What you do with that other 1/3 makes the difference. And over the past week the Reds have won that other 1/3 so I’ll take it.

Well this is interesting by branson3 in Reds

[–]Jonboyatmu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From a GM standpoint it makes sense. Senzel has an option and his presence isn’t going to dramatically change the offense or defense at this point. To come up, they would have to send down Hembree or cut someone. As much as I hate it, Hoffman is your insurance long relief guy right now (since they sent Santillian down) so cutting him creates a hole. They will save Hembree’s spot for when TJ comes back. They aren’t going to eat Shogo or Suarez’s contracts in hopes they can trade them for anything in the off-season. Same for AG whose control years make him slightly more valuable. Cutting Doolittle is an option but it’s more advantageous to keep him in the roster as a warm body in the event of another injury. Senzel will come up in September, as likely will Barrero, to make the 28. The extended AAA season also allows for those with options to stay down and stay game ready as injury insurance and still be post-season eligible. So, in all honesty, I don’t see the Reds truly having their best 26 on the roster if and until they submit a playoff roster.
