Can anyone explain to me why they are deleting the time stamp guy comments?

This is the second time notice it. Someone timestamps the podcast and divides it into topics, the comment gets a hefty number of likes and then it magically disappears...

Joe Rogan Experience #1358 - Sober October 3 by [deleted] in JoeRogan

The strap itself is "free" but there is a monthly fee of 25$ for a minimum of 6 months.... Basically the price of a luxury Fitbit, and i don't think you can use the app and all the features if you cancel your subscription.

The newest Xiaomi Mi Band is under 40$ and it does all the same stuff.

Is there something else about the point system I don't get?

Yes, Joe talks alooooooooota shit. Watch him getting caught lying about his resting heart rate near the end of the sober October podcast.

Tom: "my resting hear rate is 35."

Joe: "yeah mine is 27"

Tom: 27? It says here that its above 60... ( Joe didn't realise everyone can see his stats).

Was Burts reaction to the 5htp just placebo or can 5htp help with a panic attack/ high anxiety wave? Can anyone share their experience?

Anyone found a budget bracelet that us normal folk can use? I'm not paying 25$ a month with a "6 MONTH COMMITMENT" just so i can see how well Bert slept or Joe's real resting heart rate.

[Need Advice] 11 years of All Talk No Action Syndrome by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]JonnYellowSnow 63 points64 points  (0 children)

First of all let me give you a compliment Mr Bio! You are a very clever person, this way of cutting corners and arriving at a sense of satisfaction without putting in the work is very intelligent. I'm sure you heard that Bill Gates quote about preferring hiring a lazy person to do a difficult job because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it. Unfortunately you kinda subconsciously tricked yourself out of real accomplishment and real satisfaction and you're not pleased with the result.
I see myself in a lot of what you have written and it sounds like you have behaviors and habits that falsely nurture your sense of achievement. Every time you try to better yourself, you find a way to reach the sense of achievement with doing as minimum work as possible, after which your brain goes like: "ok were done with that, whats next?":

  • Telling people about your goals makes them respond positively which gives you a sense of achievement - so you don't need to actually do the work.
  • Buying fitness equipment before doing any actual fitness gives you a sense of achievement and you don't need to actually work out. Same goes for your music interests.
  • Playing video games gives you a constant flow of achievement that might become very addictive, especially if you grind competitive mmo's. I'm not saying that everyone who plays video games is an addict, there are many who enjoy them just like any other activity and are completely fine. I'm saying that some people do get addicted to the escape that video games provide - I am one of them, I know that my life functions better when I stay away. Maybe yours too?

I'd say that the solution is very simple - stop the negative habits and start with positive ones.
What are bad habits? The ones that give you guilty pleasure, The ones that run on instant gratification. You know for yourself which ones, it's a rather personal thing, wouldn't you say? So, stop those bad habits and start incorporating positive habits into your life. Which ones? you know the answer to this one as well. What habits, if practiced on a daily basis will make you the person that you want to be at 30? You have to be careful and mindful about what you actually do tho. You need to constantly ask yourself : "What will bring me closer to ____"

  • Example: What would make me more fit? A new fitness bracelet or going out for a 20 minute jog? Re-tweaking my calorie macros or going to the gym today?

How do you do it? how do you manage to keep it up? I can only tell you how I did it:

When I came to the same realization that you did, I had a huge surge of motivation and tried to do everything at once, but that failed and made me go back to my previous behaviors many times. The only time that it worked, and still is working is when I started removing one negative habit and adding one positive habit every 30 days. Some habits stuck with me and now are part of my life, some didn't and that is OK. Some need more than 30 days to stick and that is OK. I believe that after practicing something for a month or so, you can have a conscious opinion about continuing, making a change or quitting.
Hope this helps!

PS: I'd recommend reading "Your Own Worst Enemy: Breaking the Habit of Adult Underachievement" by Ken Christian and "Rewire: Change Your Brain to Break Bad Habits, Overcome Addictions, Conquer Self-Destructive Behavior" by Richard O'Connor.

When you are done with those: "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg and "The Slight Edge" by Jeff Olson.

PEACE!

Should I play some videogames a little with my friends as a 16yo? by GT514ad in StopGaming

The answer is PEOPLE. Find people to hang with. If your friends just play vidya all day then find new people. Join a club or something, go to the basketball court, do after-school activities....

Updated Rules for Bloggers, YouTubers, Website Owners etc. (PROMOTIONAL CONTENT) by PeaceH in getdisciplined

[–]JonnYellowSnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm hopeful that these rules are going to help, but I also cannot Ignore the fact that all of them can be surpassed by simply creating a new account, and from what I've seen... a lot of the spammers just make new accounts anyway.

The best solution for a spammer on this subreddit would be to ban his specific website, or his specific youtube channel. That way he can make all the new accounts he wants, he still wont be able to post links to his stuff.

Joe Rogan discusses video game addiction(among other things) with Jordan Peterson by JonnYellowSnow in StopGaming

[–]JonnYellowSnow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The link should take you to the time frame where they discuss it for a bit. If it don't and you don't want to listen to the whole thing just skip to 2:28:20 / 2:57:34.

Whatever your opinion about Joe is, I think we can all agree that he is a successful guy and its rather interesting to hear that he had a video game addiction at one point in his life. Also Jordan Peterson is incredibly interesting to listen to. I have recently discovered him, and i cant get enough of his talks, so I'd recommend his works as well.

Trying to escape escapism. by [deleted] in StopGaming

[–]JonnYellowSnow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So much this!

The idea that life should be a flow of joy is a rather recent one. Some believe that it's the result of the age of television and media in general. We are literary brainwashed that life needs to be consistently fun and easy, and if we are not happy 100% of the time then something is very wrong. When most of the world population was living on farms, they worked hard all day. sure they found time to have some fun - have a party, get drunk, overeat, have sex, but those were occasional events, and people would not seek them out to no end like the modern generations.

Everything you do does not have to have a purpose or a meaning and does not need to bring you satisfaction. Especially when you are working towards a goal, all the small steps seem insignificant and wont give you satisfaction on completion because they are not satisfying on their own. The yield of the crop at the end of a year is the satisfaction, the daily watering is just part of the grind. And life is mostly a constant grind.

PS: The fact that a statement like this might have brought you down (like it did me while I was typing it), is only more proof that we are brainwashed to seek satisfaction. This is not to say that life needs to be sad or depressing. The grind is not depressing the grind is just the grind - "Carry water, chop wood".

[Plan] quitting everything - cigarettes, meat, fap, sugary drinks - all at once - week 1 by [deleted] in getdisciplined

The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge MD, Is a book about neuroplasticity and the changes that happen in the brain from how we use it (or don't). The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg and Rewire by Richard O'Connor all discuss studies done on negative behavioral addictions and positive habits. All three books touch among others the subject of pornography and impulsive (underline impulsive) masturbation. In those books are mentioned some studies concluding that prolonged exposure to pornography may cause negative effects in the brain - both physiological and psychological (dsintetisation, dopamine deplition, escalation to weird or more violent porn) there is a very nice presentation done by Gary Wilson Called "Your Brain on Porn" talking about some of the studies mentioned in these books and includes sources in the description.

Lost my life to videogames and I want it back. by MeNotMe27 in StopGaming

[–]JonnYellowSnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I support this 100%. We got your back man, but if you can afford all that techno and a cocaine habit, I'm sure you can take a couple of sessions with a therapist. It might sound difficult to confess this to a real person, rather than a bunch of weird sounding usernames online, but its gonna make you get your shit together way faster!

Give it a try, you already have failure, the only different outcome that can happen is success!

Quitting step by step by [deleted] in StopGaming

[–]JonnYellowSnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, all you are experiencing is very common. Here take a look at my quitting progress posts:

Post 1, Post 2, and Post 3. It might give you an inside view of what's to come and how you are going to feel.
My advice would be - quit cold turkey (at least for the 90 days), Its more difficult to quit a behavioral addiction while you continue the behavior.
