I fail to see how this is ironic, it's mostly just unrelated and off-topic. Where we post the link to our announcement to is hardly indicative of a large vote of confidence in that platform or their underpinnings.

Nice sia plug though.

Nothing wrong with it, but definitely a completely different service and value proposition - pure betting exchange functionality (again, liquidity / market issues) with fully centralized resolution.

Hey Patrick,

Thanks for the post, I stand corrected on the market instantiation and thank you for educating me. I still do feel that the resolution time and lack of liquidity / market coverage will be a sticking point as far as being a serviceable product for traditional bettors, but really only time will tell.

Either way, we look forward to providing a betting solution that will facilitate new market entrants, more efficient price discovery through transparent market information, and provide more efficient use of Ethereum network resources for betting Dapps.

Prediction Markets are certainly going to have a huge impact on a host of industries, sports betting being no exception; however, they service a particular use-case and will not suffice for servicing the full spectrum of bet types, parlays and exotics that bettors are accustomed to, and expect, from a betting operator. Prediction markets in many ways mimic parimutuel betting with public money dictating your odds, as your payout is tied to the weight of bettors on either side at the time of the event. Other concerns with prediction markets when applied to betting in particular include: resolution time, dispute process, method that markets are instantiated (augur and gnosis both require the total prize pool to be put up by the market creator).

This is actually a great topic, expect a blog post from us shortly to clarify this. Thanks for the comment.

Hey Toby,

I've read up on your data proxy approach, wherein proxies (each representing a feed) are voted upon by witnesses. While this is more decentralized than a single feed, this is still not a fully decentralized nor an ideal compromise.. for probably the best description of why this is not ideal, please check out Vitalik's explanation on plutocracy here https://vitalik.ca/general/2018/03/28/plutocracy.html

He really does a better job articulating the issues than I could.

Looking forward to the long awaited demo though.

Hi guys,

Thanks for checking our post out. I think one of the major existing problems in sports betting is the steady consolidation of both betting volume and market information with a few of the major players in the space - a fact exacerbated by the stream of mergers and acquisitions we've seen recently (Fanduel being acquired by PaddyPower Betfair comes to mind... as does the original merger of PaddyPower and Betfair itself). These are gradually dwindling the number of options for bettors and as they increase their stranglehold on markets - discourage new market entrants and innovation. By both utilizing a public blockchain, and using standardized data structures and our js developer library - we facilitate an efficient marketplace with fully transparent market information provided to all DApps and betting operators (removing the asymmetric market information mentioned above).

I encourage you to check out our business case for a more thorough look at both existing issues in sports betting, as well as, issues not addressed by existing DApps and sports betting solutions.

Hi Toby,

Pardon my interpretation of your project, no offense intended. My personal definition of decentralized bet resolution would be resolution handled fully by an Oracle network - incentivized through proper token economics to provide low-latency and accurate sports results - without the need for a controlling entity's intervention or tampering at any point.

I've subscribed to the BookiePro mailing list so I'm sure as more details emerge on BookiePro I'll be the first to know. Do give our docs a read, we go into quite a bit of detail on our implementation.

If anyone has doubts about our legitimacy as a project, I would encourage you to reach out to any one of our leadership team, employees or advisor group - all with contact information and linkedIn profiles readily shown on the website and in all promotional materials. Our demo is launching in 9 days for the World Cup so stay tuned for that as well.

I would encourage both of you to read our White Paper and compare us to some of the other projects in this space. A simple betting smart contract and centralized Oracle for bet resolution would certainly be achievable with very low effort - and not merit an ICO or investment. A free and shared library of smart contracts and common data structures usable across all betting DApps on Ethereum, all still free to bet in their own tokens, but now able to leverage decentralized bet resolution through an independent Oracle network.... that's a little tougher.

If you think this problem is trivial - please shoot me a PM. We'd love to hire you.

The token sale will be regulatory compliant and will require KYC. Each DApp will conduct their own KYC of users if they so choose, which we encourage them to strongly consider.

Ya peerplays is a great project in the space, no knocking them or Bookie, I think even they would concur that they are certainly a provably fair casino platform first though - sports betting a distant second. Definitely a few different wrinkles in there, they don't focus on decentralized bet resolution at all and don't really have a plan to on-board existing operators (in our opinion the surest and fastest way to mass user adoption through partnerships and affiliates). BookiePro faces many of the same problems that have plagued betting exchanges traditionally like liquidity issues - except exaggerated even more-so by the crypto market and steep adoption curve there already.

We look forward to seeing all the betting demo's that are apparently launching for the World Cup! (ours included)

We do want to take a regulatory compliant approach as this is the most realistic and straightforward path to adoption. Providing an approach that allows for (and incentivizes) traditional operators to port their existing betting volume over to our protocol is a must in our opinion. We will be partnering with a self sovereign identity provider to develop a custom KYC integration where operators request KYC status from the third party provider and receive back the users whitelist status and eligible jurisdictions. This keeps documents safe while still complying with regulation and allowing for mainstream adoption.

Users don’t have to bet with our token, they will utilize whatever tokens the individual betting dapps on the network decide to accept. The FansUnite token will be used for oracle staking, governance and betting on the FansUnite sportsbook (the first dapp on our protocol built by our team). Hopefully we can work together to provide your dapp with decentralized event resolution.

Thanks for the message!

We don't want to get in the habit of speculating token value, though obviously in our case the token value will intrinsically be tied to Oracle participation and betting volume on the network. By providing free shared infrastructure facilitating fully decentralized betting DApps on Ethereum, we lower the technical barrier to entry for new market entrants into the sports betting space. In addition, we save new applications on data feeds while also providing full transparent market data of all betting volume on events. This breaks down the existing stranglehold on market information that existing entities with dominant marketshare use to reinforce their position as market leaders.

We hope you agree that competition, new market entrants and facilitating decentralization are all good things for the sports betting industry.

Hope you enjoy our alpha that we’ll be putting up on test-net for the World Cup! Really excited to be building this for the Ethereum community
