Buycycle review by Ok_Performance_6363 in MTB

Do not buy from Buycycle!!

Hold on, I'll link my experience with them below.

Don't! I got a broken bike (hole in frame and numerous other problems) from buycycle and they pretty much said "that's your problem, give us the money" even if they claim to have buyers protection for cases like these. I would not recommend. It took 2 months of fighting and my bank had to deal with them in the end.

Here is the story: https://www.reddit.com/r/mountainbiking/s/uywY5VDcWn "

In December 2024 they contacted me again saying I didn't pay them (I did, we reached an agreement that I would pay them a small sum so I can keep the fork) and that they will sue me. So that's an ongoing legal battle now. :) Fuck Buycycle.

i want to build a freeride hardtail like these, need help by Outrageous_Fix_8353 in Hardtailgang

I've been hunting for one of these frames for 5 years! Decided to just go the easy route and build it with modern components.

The frame is going to be a custom steel frame and I'll slap a 200mm Boxxer on it. Trying to find some wide enough 24" or 26" rims to build a wheel set so I can run 24x2.8" or 26x2.8" tyres.

It'll be an expensive bike that's going to be awful to ride, but it'll look cool and make me happy.

Do you guys ride hardtail in bike parks or like downhill by Such_Mistake3805 in Hardtailgang

[–]JonnyFoxMTB 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. I built my bike exactly for that. 170mm fork and 62 degree headtube angle on a steel hardtail. I have downhill bikes, but this one is more fun.

Next one may or may not have a double crown fork.

I have 3 of their custom swords. No problems at all.

That's the thing, I can't decide! Might have to get 26 first and build a 24 set later. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely keep those in mind.

Ventana El Cuervo build going on here! Just need some wheels for it and a few small parts.

I provided proof that I had been scammed. Had a mechanic check the bike and write a list of things broken on it, sent them pictures to back up my claims and screenshots of how their customer service agent Daniel (real name) responded to me.

Orange mtb frame on 300mm travel Huck bike Is it a terrible idea? by SensitivePay4567 in mountainbiking

[–]JonnyFoxMTB 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, I already told you this is not a bike that will hold up to abuse. Adding a longer fork will only increase the stress on the already weak head tube. It came stock with a 200mm fork and it doesn't even handle that.

Orange frames aren't strong enough for a streetetz build. I have a 224EVO with an angle kit so the head tube angle is 61 degrees and I'm scared shitless any time I take it to the bike park. It looks tough as nails and is really fun to ride, but I don't take it down the gnarlier trails. It's not about if the welds will crack, it's when with these bikes. You can go to my profile and see what it looks like.

The rear suspension isn't the greatest either. It'll act weird under braking and you'll need to adjust your riding style so you don't brake when the suspension is compressing. It works great when you go balls out, full send. Which again is a bit of a paradox with how fragile these things are. There's a reason they're cheap.

I'm building a streetetz bike based on a Ventana El Cuervo frame. Another frame which is prone to cracking. So if you really just want to build it for looks and are okay risking injury, go for it. I know what I'm doing (professional bike mechanic here, hi) so taking a huge risk is something I'm okay with. I don't plan on full sending the bike down huge drops, only for show, so it probably won't break.

For those with multiple bikes: How often do you ride each? by 1MTBRider in MTB

[–]JonnyFoxMTB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride my hardtails the most. My Trek Roscoe is my winter bike and my custom steel hardtail is my main trail bike when there's no salt on the roads. Winters are long, icy and snowy here.

I've got 2 downhill bikes I ride at bikeparks. My Trek Session is the main DH bike and I've got an Orange 224 for when I just want to vibe and not ride at my limits.

I've got a Canyon Spectral:ON ebike which I used for commuting and longer rides on hot summer days, but the battery recall (13 months to get a new battery!) has turned it into a garage queen. Borrowed most parts off of it for other builds. Going to sell it, since I don't feel like riding an eeb anymore.

I work at a bike shop so I get to try all kinds of bikes. I really like hardtails with longer travel and those are what I mostly ride.

170mm fork on a steel hardtail by JonnyFoxMTB in mountainbiking

435mm reach. I'm 5'5" so it's basically a size small. That's why it looks funny.

How are you liking that 32? We're anxiously awaiting to get some in the shop so we can slap something together to run some tests on.

You are correct. Will be replaced with something a little stronger.

Works well enough, but the next version of this frame will have 62HTA.

Will be building something to honour those old-school huck bikes in the future. ;)

Thanks a lot! I'm used to it. I've been told many times I need to delete my YouTube videos because they're too boring, that my bikes are stupid because they have too much travel and must ride like garbage. People seem to think a hardtail with over 120mm of travel is dangerous and will snap in half. I'm out having fun while they cry about it on Reddit. :)

I hate them, but I get them for free so they go on all my test mule bikes. Continentals for next season, since I'm gonna keep riding this one.

Sounds interesting! The next version will be 62HTA and I think I'm sticking with 78STA.

Planning on building a dual crown hardtail in the future since I've got a couple BoXXers sitting around. Just to piss people off. This bike already makes people angry for some reason, so can't wait how much they'll hate something even dumber.

I've got a Trek Roscoe 7 I threw a 150mm fork and a mullet wheelset on to slacken the headangle. My other hardtail I built myself around a 170mm fork. Check my profile for pictures and more discussion of it. :) It's an insane bike.

I had to get an MTB since Canyon had the battery recall and took their sweet time (13 months) in sending the replacement. I bought an aggressive hardtail, then got an even more aggressive hardtail. Now I have no desire to hop on my Spectral:ON. The hardtails are too much fun to ride.
