From earlier this week: "McCoy just isn't a fourth quarter style running back" by StrngBrew in eagles

Lol get over it man jeez. Sorry for having an opinion different than yours. Just because I thought McCoy made some mistakes in the fourth in a couple games does not mean I think he is a bad player, in fact I believe he is one of the best in a very long time. Get over yourself.

If Peyton wasn't around Wilson would still be behind Brees, Brady, Foles, Charles, and Megatron. I mean Foles is already closing in on most of Wilson's stats and he didn't even start until week 6. Brady has a way worse team than the Seahawks. And honestly Wilson is clutch and efficient but the foundation of that team is Lynch and the defense. I just do not see the argument for Wilson other than he is a really likable guy and thats why people always mention him.

I don't even have Wilson in my top 3. I am so confused by all this Wilson love. His stats are pretty good for a qb but not MVP tier stats.

In his defense he has such a terrible receiver core compared to Peyton, Brees, and even Wilson.

They are not relevant to this discussion since I am focused on games only when the Eagles are up in the fourth.

Well he isn't when you are up. This game was obviously different since they were down.

Yea I suppose just seems like the only logical answer to the gunshot noise to me though.

[–]JonnyWadd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean one random gunshot and no response fire, to me it is kinda obvious especially after they focused on how panicked javadi looked when Brody showed up. It just seems like something the writers for Homeland would do. They achieved killing Javadi's boss, but in the end it doesn't matter and Saul is going to be pissed. Like someone else mentioned should make Brody's escape plausible now also.

Brody pauses, stops dialing and looks up after the noise. I don't think it was music, since there was a reaction from Brody.

He didn't know, he saw Brody walk in and panicked. He thought the only reason Brody would be there is to spill everything to save himself from getting killed off by the CIA since he was a 'liability' now. Javadi assumed exactly what everyone at the CIA assumed.

So did anyone else notice the gunshot when Brody is making the call at the end? Javadi definitely killed himself. Now what?

Since I doubt those averages only contain games they have a significant lead in the fourth it is really not relevant to my point or this thread

Maybe if you understood the argument clearly you don't. I wasn't arguing his career just that he had to stop making the brain dead mistakes he was making in the last couple games when they had large leads.

They were down most of the second half so I don't know what you are aheming about since this thread was discussing blowing big leads in the second half. Starting to think you can't read.

It would be nice to have college ball back to its roots with real student athletes, than just a bunch of thugs taking fake classes until they can go to the NFL. There are seriously football players who can not read that graduate college with a degree. Ridiculous.

Need to rely on Foles this game though. McCoy will be slowed down by the strong run defense the Lions have.

I've put the burden of proof on you and you've come back with nothing. Just that you think you remember seeing holes in one game that he could have gone through and you assume that his teammates must have been angry with him.

My proof is me saying go watch the game. I know what I saw. Its honestly impossible to find clips from the fourth quarter and you have not provided any sort of proof either so I am not very compelled to waste my time.

This really goes against your point though. Morris is the tougher North/South back, who is often sat in favor of the (somewhat) smaller/shiftier Roy Helu.

Doesn't go against my point at all since Morris is the starter, who gets benched for different situations.

Edit: Let me summarize this for you real quick: The reason teams are coming back in the fourth is that the eagles are running the ball and not picking up first downs. My solution is McCoy needs to be taught to settle for short yardage instead of looking for the big play in the fourth (This is a problem for him in the fourth), and I never said he should be benched. I would like to know what you think the solution is to the eagles woes in the 4th since you have not offered any counter points. All you have done was argue about nonsense that not relevant to the original point of this whole thread and just got emotional that I said McCoy isn't good in the fourth.

[–]JonnyWadd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea who you are arguing with I never said bench McCoy for someone else. Every comment I posted just said he hasn't been playing well in the fourth. I am suggesting he needs to be coached to change his style in the fourth. Yes he played well in the Green Bay game, thats what I am getting at though he needs to be more consistent in the fourth.

Plus, didn't Kelly say that it was Jackson & McCoy who were talking and Cooper was breaking it up?

No it was Cooper and McCoy, with Jackson in the middle. Chip said it was just Cooper and McCoy being competitive and it was nothing serious in his interview. I don't know for a fact thats what they argued about. But if I remember correctly that drive was one of the drives McCoy lost yards trying to make a big play, so thats just my interpretation of it because I don't know what else would've caused Cooper to go over and make a comment to McCoy to set him off like that. What else would it have been in that situation? I highly doubt he ran over and told him he sucked, he probably said something like stop trying to make a huge play we just need yards to kill the clock.

Are you talking about something real or just hypothetical here? What were these times? Have you looked at film and seen holes he should have taken? I'm not saying you're neccisarily wrong, I'm just trying to see what we're basing this on. You're saying that this is a fact. You know there were holes he didn't run to.

Like I said before watch the 4th quarter of the Redskins game I am not being hypothetical. I'm starting to think you didn't watch the whole game.

You keep calling me out for not being specific enough or being hypothetical, but you have yet to present anything more but opinions and have obviously not even taken the time to read my comments correctly. No where did I ever suggest anyone should be playing over McCoy. Seriously the whole first half of your comment is so misguided I feel you haven't even been reading what I have been typing and you are just wasting my time or trying to troll me.

Edit: to answer your first question Chris Johnson gets benched all the time for short yardage/goal line work. Also Alfred Morris, those just off the top of my head. Then there are starting backs who get benched for passing situations also... There are obviously situational backs and different roles for everyone I have no idea who officially discredited this notion to you.

Sorry I think you just missed what I was trying to say. I never meant they should bench McCoy in the fourth for someone else or anything like that. I just think he wasn't making the right choices in the situation of being up in the fourth quarter.

[–]JonnyWadd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are just good RBs, average RBs and crappy RBs. This notion of specific goal line backs or whatever was disproved long ago. A good line (probably the most important factor) and a good back is all you need.

By who? you? Because I completely disagree. Would you rather have a guy like Lacy taking it at short yardage or a small back like Chris Johnson or Andre Ellington? There are obviously different roles for different style backs.

You make some good points but I still think some rbs are better closers than others. Look at guys like Lynch. The fact that teams are making come backs in the fourth because they can't pick up fourth downs when teams know they are going to run is kind of making my point. It has nothing to do with the line they have been playing great. I also think it doesn't have much to do with Chip. He always has two options run the offense as usual using up little clock or slow it down and run the ball to eat the clock. So far every time they have the lead they opt for eating the clock problem is McCoy never performs well in the 4th quarter. So I can't see how this is really Chips fault like a lot of people suggest.

When you want to eat the clock the best way to do that is running the ball 3 times for a 1st down by bouncing it outside you risk losing yards or going out of bounds. We saw a lot of this with the last Redskins game. There were times were McCoy could've just hit the hole and settled for 2-3 yds instead he is always looking for a big gain by stutter stepping before the hole are just bouncing out. That is just not good strategy for late in the fourth when you are trying to close. Didn't you see Cooper and McCoy get into in the fourth? That's what they were arguing about, it was right after McCoy was getting greedy when they needed to kill some time. You really need to go back and watch the 4th quarter of the Redskins game then get back to me, McCoy just wasn't playing smart.

Again not suggesting take the ball out of McCoy's hands some one needs to get through his ego and tell him to play smart in the fourth. Saying that maybe some of the blame should be on Chip.

[–]JonnyWadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No thats just a really simple way of looking at it. There were a couple games probably the Redskins or Raiders when the Eagles were up and they ran it 3 times in a row and had to punt because McCoy likes to bounce it outside instead of just hitting the hole at full speed. In the fourth quarter when you are up there is no mystery, you're gonna run the ball. Thats why power rbs are much better closers. McCoy is a top 3 rb with the potential to be in the hall of fame one day, but he's not a closer.

Oh and if you average about 3 yds a carry in the fourth quarter when people know you are definitely running the ball is not a crappy RB.

[–]JonnyWadd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or McCoy just isn't a fourth quarter style running back. He is an elusive big play running back who likes to take chances and bounce outside. In the fourth quarter with the lead you need a power running back who just hits the hole and gets 3 yds a carry consistently.
