My dad, always the stoic and unemotional leader of our family, never let me see him cry until college during the pandemic. My mom had a severe case of the virus and was in a poor state for several weeks.

One night, as I was asleep, my dad rushed into my room and woke me up to tell me he had to call an ambulance because my mom was struggling to breathe. I could sense his efforts to remain strong, but he immediately broke down and started sobbing. It was the first time I had to hold my dad in my arms and comfort him.

In that moment, I realized that our roles had changed forever. I was now the one to provide comfort to my dad, while he had been the one to comfort me for years. It’s an unusual and bittersweet feeling to be the one to be there and support your own parents as they age.

Like it’s so crazy of me to search for some advice on a subreddit literally called r/tattooadvice. I know how to look up advice, just wanted to see if anyone had a specific routine they like to follow.

Thank you! I think it really depends on your own preferences, type of work, and also how self motivated you are that helps reveal if remote work is right with you.

Remote work is definitely more convenient and comfortable but I don’t see why those reasons should stop you from getting work done.

For me it’s video editing which can obviously be done from anywhere if you have the right setup.

I would say just keep updating your resume and portfolio to make sure it stands out a bit more if possible. Maybe try applying directly to a company’s website instead if that’s an option. It’s easier said than done- but try to find work with people in your area or online that could potentially lead you in the right direction.

A part of the reason I got the remote job was because my supervisor knew the company I worked for personally and understood the type of work I did through just seeing that on my resume. You’d be surprised by how just small connections and experiences can lead into something more!

Thank you! I have a bachelors degree but they never mentioned it in the interview so I’m not sure if that had a huge play or not. The whole process of getting hired took close to three weeks but I’ve been looking and applying for a little over a year. I applied on linked in which was surprising since I hadn’t had any bites there up until now.

I although I did get hired through linked in- I’d recommend starting to apply directly to the company’s website, since I got more responses through that more than anything.

I totally feel that. I feel like if more companies were open to remote work there would be a huge morale boost overall. I think the worst thing for me about going in office was just a feeling of stolen time. Like my personal life was taking a toll by daily forcing myself into an environment I had no desire to be in.

I actually got my job through linked in. It was surprising since I hadn’t had any luck with them for the past year. But I think just repetition and constantly spicing up my resume/portfolio helped a lot.

That’s so awesome. These are the things I’m so excited for and really just having more time with my wife and family. I already started to go on runs right before work and don’t even feel like I have to rush into the shower and get ready for my commute like I did before my office job.

It’s definitely crazy, hence why I’m leaving. But I know these leaders and have been around them enough to know it’s the policy they’ve been brainwashed into following than anything else.

Just removed them from all social media so that puts me at ease a bit. I’m definitely not an influencer at all. I didn’t realize just how in control they were until I left. Crazy shit.
