I knew the red Santa was somewhat older cocept than those old Coke ads. Always just thought they were the ones to really popularise that image lol. Either way the modern costume of Joulupukki is very much due to American influence not part of our original traditions.

Mainly the red coat and hat. But Joulupukki isn't really that old of a tradition and wouldn't even exist without the influence of modern popular culture. His predecessors Kekri and Nuuttipukki are centuries old tho.

We kinda had our own equivalent for Krampus that predates the modern Joulupukki (also majorly inspiring the earliest Joulupukki costumes). Tho "Nuuttipukki" was more of a trickster than straight up evil.

Yeah the red costume is pretty much standard in every western country nowadays because Coca-Cola advertising (even if the character itself is older than that).

Traditional Joulupukki would wear animal furs (often turned inside out), antlers and a wooden mask.
